If you have parents in their 50’s through early 70’s and you don’t know what they have in place for life insurance, ask. Why that age group? They are generally still young enough to get affordable insurance, and they seem to be an age group that unfortunately listened to AARP and believes that final expenses really do cost $7000.
I would challenge you, if you’ve had a friend who has lost a parent recently, to have an earnest discussion about the true cost of final expenses. A casket and burial might be had for $7000, but I maintain that a reasonable final expense amount these days is $25,000 to $50,000. There are so many cost above and beyond the burial, and I hear the stories every week about a child who has had to take the extra cost out of their own pocket. Folks, that is what life insurance is for.

I’m very lucky with my sleeping patterns. Lucky, due to the fact that I could sleep all day, every day without problem. I’m a sleeping machine and like to think of it as a quasi-sport. But recently I’ve been struggling with an aspect to “my game”. Here are the key areas for a good nights sleep:
Endurance: Vital to stay in the bed as long as possible to maximise the relaxation and delay the inevitable waking up and having to face the world. Bladder pressure, starvation, dehydration or alarm clocks should not affect your performance in the early morning. Focus and sheer bloody-mindedness is key.
Speed: It’s critical, in my opinion, that precious time rolling around and trying to get to sleep should be avoided at all costs. You should be “in the zone” as you get into the pyjamas (silk leopard print is optional) and the minute your head touches the pillow you should be out like a light. I think that would fall under the argument of cause and effect, or the idea of motion. As some philosophers argue, everything in the universe is in motion (circulation of the planets, stars, atoms, protons, etc). We understand through simple observation that in order for something to move in our physical world (exp: a ball), it must be moved. A ball sitting on an even floor does not start moving unless it is pushed (by a force, a person, the wind, etc).
With this movement (the effect) needing a push (a cause), a philosopher or Christian may come to the conclusion that the universe must have a Universal Mover/Pusher, or as some call, the First Cause.
That would be one role, and seeing that the Big Bang, if following these day-to-day observations of cause and effect, it would also need a first cause. We don’t witness anything material creating itself from non-existe

One question sometimes comes up when doing a cap table of the equity in a company. Should you assume that the stock options are exercised or not assume it? Do you base it upon what will be at the present time and let future stock option exercises dilute the equity at a later point in time?
I’ve heard cases made for either way, but I think it’s much better to assume full exercise of the stock option. You want to give the investors that hold the other stock the most conservative view on their holdings. By not including the stock exercise, you show a higher percentage of ownership for them in the shorter term. Then when the shares from the options are exercised there could be disappointment on their part, could they even realize they could get diluted down to such a lower level.
If you have other stock options planned in the near future, over the next couple years, you might want to also put them into the capitalization plans. Get them approv
