The Houston Astros won their first game of the regular season last night against the Padres 9-6 in San Diego. Hunter Pence singled in the tying run and Lance Berkman hit a three-run homer as the Astros scored four times in the ninth inning. Geoff Blum, Ty Wigginton and Carlos Lee also homered. Jose Valverde gave up the go-ahead run on a sac-fly in the bottom of the eighth, but got credit for the win. Trevor Hoffman allowed three hits, a walk and all four runs in the ninth to take the loss for San Diego. Shawn Chacon is scheduled to pitch for Houston this afternoon when the Astros again take on the Padres in San Diego at 2:35.
