This smoothie is based on the classic gateau from the 80's. Traditionally flavoured with lots of cream, chocolate and forest fruits - black cherries, blackberries, and blackcurrants are the main ingredients. It originates from the Black Forest in Germany, hence the name schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (black forest cherry cake). Usually, Kirsch liqueur is added into the cake as well for extra cherry flavour.Unfortunately this gateau seems to have got itself a pretty poor reputation, I think this is attributable to the flooding of supermarket freezers with poor quality black forest gateaux. Sara Lee has a lot to answer for.Anyway, my smoothie is loosely inspired by this cake! No pictures for this one as I drank it straight away! Whoops. Here it is...IngredientsBlack cherries ~10Blackberri

CHICAGO – A team of golden goddesses seemingly are traveling through space. What is their obsession? It’s a flaming eyeball.
Black Forest Theater’s latest production, “The Flaming Eyeball,” is a distillation of three year’s development through many prisms. Writer and director James Moeller began the piece as an exploration of Hollywood movie pitches and then it became the movie itself.
Co-directed by and featuring Black Forest artistic director Carla Hayden as one of the eyeball pursuers, the play flows through the final frontier of space with fellow travelers Masha Kore and Heather Svoboda.
While these seekers philosophize on their optically essenced nirvana, dancer Natalia Naranovich alights the scene as the object of their desire.

'Man cannot live on chocolate alone, but woman sure can.'Author Unknown Black Forest Gateau...The Black Forest region ('Schwarzwald') in Germany is essentially known for three distinctive features: its highlands, scenery and woods, the traditional cuckoo-clock, & the typical southern German dessert- 'Black Forest Gateau' or 'Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte' ( literally "Black Forest cherry cake") . Hmmmm...a peek into the insides!!The Black Forest gateau consists of several layers of chocolate cake, with whipped cream and cherries between each layer. Then the cake is decorated with additional whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and chocolate shavings. Here's the one I baked for my mother's birthday over the weekend. We don't get maraschino cherries here, so I used regular canned cherries. The gateau was a delicious, light cake...& it disappeared in next to no time!! It was finger licking good. Chill it well for the flavours to mature!YUM! YUM!!Ingredients:SpongeEggs - 6

So begins the saga of the Teddy Bear, a phenomenal soft toy named after a President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt.
Margarete Steiff contracted polio at the age of eighteen months, a dreaded and debilitating disease. She was destined to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair for her left foot was totally paralyzed, her right foot was lame, and she had only partial use of her right arm.
Perhaps a lighter spirit would bemoan the slings and arrows that fate had bestowed, but Margarete proved to have strength, courage and a will to become far more than most women of her generation.
Margarete Steiff attended school and was even carried, by stronger children, to some of her classes. She learned to sew on a machine and, though painful, became proficient in hand needlework as well.
With the completion of her education she was employed as a dressmaker and succeeded not only because of her skill, but as a result of her vibrant personality.
In 1880, she made
Black Forest Germany Woodcarvings
Some Samples of Traditional Woodcraft
Woodcarvings are still handmade by skilled masters as they were 200 years ago. Old clocks, original drawings of the first clocks etc. are still used and modified as patterns for new models, but the cuckoo clock in its basic form is 200 years old and has survived until now. The cuckoo clock symbolizes the past, present and the future.
In the 17th century the Black Forest was a hard place. Europe was going through a mini-ice age, and it was so cold during the winters that milk sometimes froze in the pail between the barn and the house.
People began to make clocks in their homes during the long, harsh winters. These clocks soon became an important source of income
The first Black Forest Cuckoo Clock was designed and made in 1738 by Franz Anton Ketterer in the small village of Schönwald near Triberg, Germany, in the depths of the Black Forest. Ketterer managed to reproduce the cuckoo's call by the clever use of bellows producing two different sounds.
Clocks that were made in winter were sold by the clock peddlars in the summer months during long journeys throughout Europe. The clocks were secured on a frame and carried on the back. They were works of art, sought after luxuries that conquered the hearts of people all over the world.
This ancient craft continued to develop, becoming soon a flouri

The big question these days seems to “What’s happening with housing prices in my area”? Well at least in the Black Forest, that doesn’t seem to be a very easy question to answer. The year to date numbers are fairly erratic and don’t seem to show any real trend, as the accompanying graph shows.[kml_flashembed movie=”http://www.springsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/bla_oct.swf” [...]
The Black Forest market is generally one of the most desirable areas along the Front Range. Unfortunately, it has consistently showed up in the bottom quarter of our monthly “Absorption Rates” study. Given the natural beauty and desirability of this area we assume the issue is perceived market value a.k.a pricing.

Black Forest saw prices soften but sales increase for the month of September. This appears to be the result of pent up buyer demand in conjunction with seller motivation. As we have discussed here in the past, there are buyers in the market and the homes they are buying are the ones that are priced [...]
