      Boy Scouts Become Heroes
It has often been said that just as there is no such thing as a former Marine, there is also no such thing as a former Boy Scout. Well speaking as a Boy Scout for nearly 30 years I felt obligated to post a little bit about the recent heroics by a group of young [...]

Boy Scouts evicted over Anti-Gay Bigotry
Negotiations have ended and come June 1, 2008 - the Boy Scouts will have to have vacated Beaux Art Building. For three years the Philadelphia council of the Boy Scouts of America held its ground. It resisted the city’s request to change its discriminatory policy toward gay people despite threats that if it did not do so, the city would evict the group from a municipal building where the Scouts have resided practically rent free since 1928. Hailed as the birthplace of the Boy Scouts, the Beaux Arts building is the seat of the seventh-largest chapter of the organization and the first of the more than 300 council service centers built by the Scouts around the country over the past century. But over the years the fight between the city and the Scouts was about more than this grandiose structure in Center City. Municipal officials said the clash stemmed from a duty to defend civil rights and an obligation to abide by a local law that bars taxpayer support for any group that discriminates.

      War On Boy Scouts
The war against the Boy Scouts of America continues in Philadelphia. Philadelphia City Council has voted to up the organizations rent by 199,999 dollars a year.In 1928 the city council voted to rent the property to the organization for 1 dollar a year but, because of groups like the ACLU, it has voted to charge 200,000 dollars a year for the property. All this because gays claim the group discriminates. If promoting family values is discrimination then yes they discriminate. The higher rent "would have to come from programs. That's 30 new Cub Scout packs, or 800 needy kids going to our summer camp," said Jeff Jubelirer, spokesman for the Cradle of Liberty Council. "It's disappointing, and it's certainly a threat.""When it comes to a Scout troop, sexual orientation is an issue that goes beyond differences in skin color or economic status. It affects such matters as tenting arrangements and the development of pre-teenage masculinity in a close-knit group of boys and men," said Hans Zei

Sex Abuse Lawsuit Against Mormon Church, Boy Scouts
A sexual abuse lawsuit against the Mormon Church and Boy Scouts of America is picking up steam as more men have come forward with similar allegations. Four more men have joined the previous two “Jack Does” in claiming abuse suffered at the hands of the same church and scout leader. Timur Dykes, a former Mormon spiritual leader and scout leader and previously convicted sex offender is at the heart of this case as the one accused of sexual assault. Dykes has not been named as part of the lawsuit, however. The lawsuit is seeking $25 million in damages from the two organizations. A spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America defended the organization saying that they work hard to protect the boy scouts from predators. Two years ago, an official with the Boy Scouts who headed up a national task force to protect children from sexual abuse was himself convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography.

      Boy Scouts

Boy Scouts triumphant, ACLU trounced in common sense ruling
The AP reports that the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling and allowed the Pentagon to continue its support of the National Boy Scout Jamboree. Two Chicago-area “religious leaders,” aided and abetted by the ACLU, sued the Pentagon in 1999, whining that the Boy Scouts should not receive public support because Scouts require members to swear an oath of “duty to God.” But the court displayed better sense than the men who filed the suit. “Even assuming that it is correct to characterize the BSA as a ‘religious’ organization, this statute is for the purpose of assisting the military in persuading a new generation to join its ranks and in building good will. This is a secular and valid purpose,” the court wrote. The ACLU shot back; “We continue to believe that government funding to support private activities which exclude persons on the basis of their beliefs is unconstitutional,” American Civil Liberties Union att

Snow Camping With The Boy Scouts
The dogs and I had an awesome time snow camping. This was our first time snow camping together, and the dogs ended up doing really well. Apart from the crazy people who were hiking in the moonlight at 2 AM!, I had an awesome time with the dogs. We ended up packing in a lot of the Boy Scouts gear, and we did 3 trips to get it up to our camp area. The next day I took the dogs for an awesome 6 mile training run, and we had a blast! I am going to be sure to camp with the dogs again! Hope you enjoy the pics!As you can see from this first photo, the dogs and I are streaming up the hill with about 100 lbs of gear on the sprint sled. (Right now I am looking into getting a toboggan, as the sprint sled gets a little taxed with that much weight on it.) The dogs and me started on the trail about 10 minutes after everyone else, but we caught up in a matter of moments. Go dog power!!! Here my Dad snapped a quick shot of me and the dogs.It was really, really hot outside, so it got a little warm with
