These are two different cacti plants (same species), announcing Spring in Argentina. Both pictures were taken last Sunday, and of course, they belong to my garden.I want to share these marvellous through Ruby Tuesday, Two Fer Tuesday, Weekend Snapshot, and Today's Flowers.
Cacti is a complete network graphing solution designed to harness the power of RRDTool’s data storage and graphing functionality. Cacti provides a fast poller, advanced graph templating, multiple data acquisition methods, and user management features out of the box. All of this is wrapped in an intuitive, easy to use interface that makes sense for [...]
On our website you can find a brief history of cacti in South Africa. Last night we received a nice addition from the USA:
“The restablishment of the Soekershof garden after many years of
neglect is fantastic — the photos were fantastic. Here is what I
have in my records for Marthinus Malherbe:

Before I wrote the "Fake flowers on Cacti" entry I e-mailed the two largest cacti & succulent wholesalers I was familiar with from the big box garden centers. I didn't get a response from either one but I thought about those two companies again when I wrote the "More cacti abuse" entry on Halloween and posted a photo of a cactus with googly eyes from Altman Plants. One of the comments in that entry was from NuSuki who provided links to photos of similarly decorated C&S in Spain.Today I got an email from Bob Reidmuller, who is the Resident Horticulturist at Altman Plants, responding to my original email in regards to the fake flowers glued on cacti. In that email I asked if the fake flowers were glued onto cacti in part because of retailer demand, here's what he said;"We actually have some of our own with straw flowers again at the request of the big box store that wanted them. When they actually outsell the ones without the fake flowers 2 to 1 it is not good business to refu
A few days ago i installed cacti on a Debian Etch with snmp. After i configured snmp i noticed that when i clicked the host under Devices menu the host settings windows opens and it shows an error saying “SNMP not in use”. Maybe some of you got his error and you need help in resolving it. Here is how its done: Notice the “SNMP Community” box ? is it empty ? mine was and that is the problem, fill in the community you filled under snmpd.conf and press Save. Now Click your host again and it should work just fine.
And in the second pictures its working fine after entering the community:
On a previous entry I wrote about the practice of gluing fake flowers on cacti . If you're not aware of it cacti and succulents growers glue straw flowers on cacti when they aren't blooming in order to increase sales of these plants. Those pink, green, red and blue flowers you see growing on cactus in the big box stores are indeed fake. The most common cactus that you'll encounter decorated with the the straw flowers is one that is referred to as "Fairy Castle Cactus."One of the wholesale growers that participates in this practice is a company by the name of Altman Plants. This fall I noticed for the first time that Altman Plants was not only distributing cacti with those colorful fake flowers but they also had cacti and succulent plants decorated for Halloween. Some of the changes they made for the Halloween season make sense and are completely understandable even forgivable. For example, using these decorative cups instead of the usual plastic pots or even the miniature cardboar
It's a weekend like any other and like many people across the country I'm walking into the greenhouse of the local Home Depot. I'm there to see if any new cacti and succulents plants have arrived. I'm hoping to reach them before they are either over or under watered to death by the staff. To get good plants at most of these big box garden centers you have to get there the moment they are unpacked. Before I walk into the greenhouse I can see an unusual number of people crowding around the shelfs. As I approach the crowd I can see that people are indeed crowding around a newly arrived shipment of cacti and succulents. The group is composed mainly of women who aren't above elbowing each other as they reach for a plant. For a second I wonder if this is what it would look like if Madonna and Angelina Jolie were to arrive at the same orphanage on the same day.The spoils of the scuffle are presented to significant others, kids, parents and friends. One woman asks, what I assume to be, her
If you are using Cacti for you network monitoring, you can add Asterisk to the list of servers/ services that cacti monitors.Cacti is a complete frontend to RRDTool, it stores all of the necessary information to create graphs and populate them with data in a MySQL database. The frontend is completely PHP driven. Along with being able to maintain Graphs, Data Sources, and Round Robin Archives in a database, cacti handles the data gathering. There is also SNMP support for those used to creating traffic graphs with MRTG.But the cream here is what ITConnection.ru created and posted the Cacti script for Asterisk IP-PBX statistics. It's based on Python, works over AMI connection and provides comprehensive graphs like this (more at where IConnection posted it);Astpligg lead me to the news.Tags: Asterisk, Asterisk monitoring, Asterisk cacti, cacti, RRDTool, MySQL, Graphs, IAX2, SIP, VoIP
If little inanimate pebbles (i.e. Pet Rocks) could make Gary Dahl a millionaire, how about something that is actually alive? Give each of these tiny cacti its own name, and they could become the next Pet Rock fad.
Suspended in nourishing gel, these miniature plants do not require you to water or feed them. Take them with you everywhere, and all you have to do is keep them out of the sun. Called a Bio-tech Mobile Plant and intended as a cellphone strap accessory (for $9), this Bright Idea is from Japan. Check them out HERE; via InventorSpot.

Debi has turned us on to Picnik, a terrific online, free site for editing pictures and general goofing around. In answer to her last post, this is what I saw...I had forgotten my password (you don't need to sign in to play with Debi), and this is the quote they sent me with my new password:"Better by far you should forget and smile than you should remember and be sad." - Christina Rossetti.

The Photography At Absoluately Cactus Are Absoluately Wonderful!
Â
A friend runs a great site selling a variety of cacti that she has grown, cross-bred, and nurtured to the point of having a veritable atrium of cacti. This is not a bad thing, but a truly wonderful thing. She is a literal fount of knowledge when it comes to the subject matter of plants and cacti. Her encyclopedic knowledge of cacti has allowed her to raise and grow a wide array of cacti and ensure that they flourish.
This, in and of itself, is awesome. However, what makes it interesting, from this site's perspective, at any rate, are the awesome and truly beautiful photography of the cacti. Not only does she raise her own cacti, but she also handles her own web design and photography of the cacti. Each and every photograph of a cacti on her site was shot by her.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of the Cubsfan2883's Gamethread Live. I will be viewing today's action which is being shown on CSN.
On the hill for the hometown Cubbies will be Wade Miller. Miller has thrown very well in his last outing and the Cubs feel he needs one more start in Spring Training before he throws in Mid April in his first regular season start. If you cannot see the game on CSN, MLB.TV and Gameday Audio are both there to suit your Cub-loving needs. If you're at work, and your boss is a Nazi(or a White Sox fan) you can keep this screen up as someone will be watching the game and providing wonderful PbP updates.
Looking over the site stats for my blog that FeedBurner provides I've noticed a number of visits to my blog are from people doing internet searches looking for retailers in Chicago that sell Cacti and Succulents.Today someone was looking for a place to buy Senecio rowleyanus in Chicago and since most people are too shy to post in the comments and ask a question if they didn't find the answer I'll take a few moments here and divulge my cactus buying locations in Chicago. If you're in Chicago and looking to buy Cacti and Succulents you're sort of out of luck. I say that because we don't have a place in the city that specializes or has a vast amount of them. But if you don't mind doing some leg work you can find them in a variety of stores.I purchase a lot of Cacti and Succulents in Chicago from Home Depot. The trick to finding a cactus in a Chicago Home Depot that you'll be happy with is visiting every single one you come across. Not all of them have the exact same merchandise and
Look closely at the Cacti in this picture. It was stolen from Pancho Villa's Restaurant (1625 Sir Francis Drake Blvd Fairfax, CA) and is valued at $5,000.00 But I think that aside from the monetary value it has sentimental value as it was planted in the mid-1970s by Jose Luis Velasquez who worked as a bartender at the restaurant and passed away two years ago. The owner of the restaurant, and cacti, Kelly Medina is offering a reward for the return of her stolen cacti. She's offering a "sumptuous feast" in exchange for information leading to the return of her beloved cacti. Is there a worst kind of thief than a plant thief? There probably is but it has to rank right up there next to baby candy theft and I'm hoping that the person(s) responsible for this theft weren't cacti and succulent enthusiasts. You can get the number for Medina and the local police and read the story at the link below.(read the story here)I just realized that if I had a similar looking cacti I'd probably prop it
