Currently, hurricane Ike is just hours away from hitting the coast of Texas. The tropical storm is currently a category 2; however, according to the U.S. weather center it could easily grow into a category 3 storm with sustained winds of at least 111 mph. Jeff Masters, director of meteorology at Weather Underground Inc., reported that the storm's winds cover a wider span then hurricane Katrina.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crashed last night during a search-and-rescue training exercise six miles off Sand Island, killing three of four crewmembers aboard.
