Hello all. For about a year of more I've been thinking of ways to distance myself from Ebay's ever increasing fees, mandates, and indifference toward their Sellers. I have all but stopped putting anythying of significance on Ebay, whereas, in the past, anything I had that was quality in nature would be listed on Ebay without hesitation. They went unnoticed for so long because they were covered by rubble and debris. The fossil record in

It looks like chickens deserve more respect. Scientists are fleshing out the proof that today's broiler-fryer is descended from the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex. And, not a surprise, they confirmed a close relationship between mastodons and elephants.
Fossil studies have long suggested modern birds were descended from T. rex, based in

During the church/state controversy I was recently embroiled in, many of my views were scrutinized. You may remember how I was mocked for believing there were dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark. Even my good friend, Kevin Canessa, printed a cartoon in an editorial poking fun at my view. And why not, given the fact that evolution has been propagated as fact, my view may sound a bit antiquated (if you are kind) or down right nutty (if you are less inclined to be polite). Nevertheless, I believe the Holy Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation to be God’s inspired word to mankind. Therefore, I believe that they ought to be interpreted literally.By “literally,” I mean they are to be interpreted according to the normal conventions of written language. That is, if something is written in the gen

I found this at Futurismic and thought I'd share my excitement.Apparently an asteroid may strike Mars in January! Why is this a big deal? Well, remember the dinosaurs? Remember when scientists told us they probably died from a big impact from an asteroid or comet? Well, here's a great chance for us to watch a large object strike a terrestrial planet! I'm hoping it will happen because this could bring about a whole slue of interesting images or videos--even more interesting than the Shoemaker-Levy 9 images here, here, and here. We might actually get to witness a significant impact on a relatively Earth-like planet (Mars is semi-Earthish, though it lacks liquid water and it is a bit different, but we could expect to gather quite a lot of info from this little red guy). You can read a bit more about the impact at this NASA article.Asteroid 2007 WD5 isn't a very big fella (about 50 meters or 164 feet), but for a small planet like Mars it shouldn't matter. It'll still do a goo

A series of monumental volcanic eruptions in India may have killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, not a meteor impact in the Gulf of Mexico. The eruptions, according to a press release by EurekAlert, which created the gigantic Deccan Traps lava beds of India, are now the prime suspect in the most famous and persistent paleontological murder mystery, say scientists who have conducted a slew of new investigations honing down eruption timing."It's the first time we can directly link the main phase of the Deccan Traps to the mass extinction," said Princeton University paleontologist Gerta Keller. The main phase of the Deccan eruptions spewed 80 percent of the lava which spread out for hundreds of miles. It is calculated to have released ten times more climate altering gases into the atmosphere than the nearly concurrent Chicxulub meteor impact, according to volcanologist Vincent Courtillot from the Physique du Globe de Paris.Keller's crucial link between the eruption and the mass ex
A couple of theories on why dinosaurs are now extinct involve the dimming of the sky by massive amounts of dust or ash, provided either by an impacted space object or huge volcanic eruption. With less sunlight, the plants died, then the herbivores, then the carnivores. Less sunlight also would have cooled the earth somewhat. Maybe we can use this.If we put a little bit of material in the air, which would technically be a lot, but little in comparison with the amount necessary for an extinction even, we could theoretically cool the earth. Sunlight would come into the atmosphere, and bounce off the dust, going back into space. We'd only need enough to adjust the average global temperature a few degrees. How would we accomplish this? We could use factories that spew the specially-formulated dust mixture into the air, 24/7. Lots of dust would end up coming down in rain and snow, effectively creating muddy rain, but perhaps the natural cycles of nature would continue to filter our ma

In 1961, an oil company geologist, Robert Liscomb, found dinosaur bones near Ocean Point along the Colville River. Unfortunately, he died soon thereafter and the bones ended up in a warehouse gathering dust for many years. The bone bed he discovered was later named for him. It was not until 1983 that the find came to the attention of dinosaur experts. About 95% of the bones from this bed have turned out to be Edmontosaurus, which was a large (15 meters long), non-crested duckbill. Largely juvenile bones (some adult) have been found here. Researchers have discovered a flower fossil, an orchid flower with a 15 to 20 million years old, this flower has pollen specimen enclosed in amber, the fossil was found in the Dominican RepublicThe Orchidaceae family boasts the largest of all flowering plants, but it is poorly understood, because until now there has been no fossil record of its history. Previous speculations put the plants' first appearance at about 45 million years ago.Santiago Ramirez of Harvard University and colleagues compared genetic information from the fossilised Meliorchis caribea with modern-day plants and reconstructed an evolutionary tree. It suggests that the first orchids bloomed about 84 million years ago (Nature, vol 448, p 1042). Those that survived the mass extinction 65 million years ago then rapidly proliferated, leading to today's 28,000 or so species.Source & Image:newscientist

The show was conceived by the Muppet masters at Jim Henson Productions, who wanted to do a sitcom-style show with puppets using the animatronics processes the company had developed. The brain trust settled on the idea of doing a straightforward show about a family that happened to be composed of dinosaurs. Henson Productions offshoot The Creature Shop developed huge, lifelike puppets that could be operated from inside by puppeteers, and Brian Henson, Jim's son, devised a process called ‘audio animatronics' to bring the facial expressions of these puppets to life. The shows premise mixed elements of The Flintstones and The Simpsons, focusing on a blue-collar family of dinosaurs. Earl, the father, worked for the Wesayso Corporation and leveled trees to make way for tract homes. His blustery qualities were balanced out by his even-tempered wife Fran. The Dino clan had three children: rebellious teen Robbie, shopaholic preteen Charlene, and Baby, a smart-alecky infant. Rounding out th

I tell ya kids just say the craziest things, and because they are kids you can never really take anything they say to personal.
Tonight Angela and kids came over as always to have dinner. I made a wonderful (at least in my opinion) Lasagne, it was actually my first time making it with out it being frozen and coming out a tinfoil container lol.
So Angela and I are talking and Marlee (her 4 year old daughter) comes up to me and asked me if I was scared of dinosaurs, I told her nope. A few minutes later she needed help turning on the faucet in the bathroom to wash her hands so I go in their to turn it on. She then says to me. “Are you not afraid of dinosaurs because of your big belly and you can just push them out of your way with it?” I just about died laughing but held off for a second enough to say yep that’s it. And started laughing as soon as I walked out to tell her Mom.

You might remember these guys from our post-Christmas Dinosaur Parade. They disappear for days at a time, presumably in Noah’s latest “my favorites” hiding place. Then as suddenly as they disappeared, they re-appear in some new location in the house.Last week it was the shower. Six dinosaurs neatly lined up on the rim of the bathtub, ready to observe how the humans in the house get clean. Noah always positions them as if two or three of the dinosaurs are having a conversation--hopefully not about my choice of shampoo or whether I need to exercise more.Yesterday the dinosaurs were lined up in front of the television, Mystery Science Theater-style, waiting for someone to turn on whatever plastic dinosaurs like to watch.Preschoolers are natural collectors and often love to sort and categorize those collections or use them for pretend play. My friend's son has quite a large rock collection; he lines them up from small to large on the windowsills around her house. Another friend's d
We’re having a dinorsaur day in our house. It all started when my oldest rolled out of bed in a foul mood, angry and arguing. As he grumbled through breakfast, complaining about everything, he realized hat his new dinosaur book was still out on the table. He’s like a little curly headed dinosaur, somping and growing his way through he house. So I promised him a dinosaur day. We’ll color in his coloring book, mabe watch the dinosaur video I bought him from the Discovery Channel store, we’ll look through his books and alk about he different kinds there are, and mos likley we’ll do a lile dinosaur roll-playing. Especially since crawling around and growling is something that he baby brother can join in with glee.
It is days like this when I both wish I could send him off to school for a few hours, and I’m glad that I don’ have to. As much as his mood will grate my nerves, I could not imagine handing him off to some poor eacher, one not as attached
The first fossils of half-billion-year-old clusters of soft-shelled eggs have been found preserved in a strange new way in south China - some of the eggs were even caught in the act of dividing.
The three-dimensional clusters of petrified eggs from invertebrate animals that lived in a sea 501 million to 510 million years ago are preserved in silica - glass essentially. Jih-Pai Lin, an Ohio State University (School of Earth Sciences) paleontologist, explained this is a totally unexpected way for soft eggs to fossilize and survive for eons.
Lin is the lead author of a report on the egg clusters published in the December issue of the journal Geology.
The discovery means there are probably even more early eggs and embryos fossilized in ancient rocks. Fossil hunters just need to keep in mind the different ways they might be preserved, and therefore the different types of rocks in which they might be found.
