This has been happening a lot recently. First, I wanted to annoint Tyler Thigpen the future of the Kansas City Chiefs until NFL Draft Jesus Scott Wright told me to reconsider. Now, I wrote about my man love for Graham Harrell and Scott says that he thinks Harrell is a late round pick. Sigh.
I still think Harrell has [...]
For several days, leading congressional democrats have implored Treasury Secretary Paulson and the Bush administration to release funds to the embattled US automakers from the $700 billion Wall Street bailout.
Today, however Paulson went on record as saying that those funds were only intended for the financial industry and that the Bush administration did not support [...]

Beautiful view, marred by necessary barbed wire. The dichotomy that is Honduras.I could photoshop it....Just lately I've received several comments on an old article, "Immigrating to Honduras" from April 2008, an update of an article I originally wrote in January 2007. Over the two-plus years that I've been writing this blog, I've heard from hundreds of people with questions. I wrote this article to

Experts cannot seem to come to an agreement on the availability of low rate loans. While there are some banks providing these low rate loans, it appears as though consumers are having to jump through many hoops just to get them. The average amount of applications it takes to get a low rate loan are [...]

That is the title of a recent post by candidate for PC(USA) moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow. Predictably, his post has received a great deal of response. The quick answer is that some of us can and some of us cannot. I am all for agreeing to disagree in thought and in practice. I wrote about this very thing in 2001 when the presbyteries were considering removing G-6.0106b and the Authoritative Interpretation. That would have allowed a level playing field for people to agree to disagree and would have allowed all to act from their own consciences. It failed. The Theological Task Force report tried the agree to disagree approach by keeping the (in my view) discriminatory language but allowing for scruples of conscience. The General Assembly passed it, yet how that will be interpreted in
From the Tucson Citizen : Indian leaders, scientists, business interests and the superintendent of the Grand Canyon warned Friday of dire consequences if uranium mining is allowed to proceed near the national park. Mining advocates minimized any likely problems. At a congressional field hearing held in Flagstaff, proponents of a measure to ban mining around the Grand Canyon said the canyon is a national treasure worthy of protection from the impacts of such activity. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., who chaired the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, has sponsored a bill to ban a million acres near the Grand Canyon from mineral exploration under the 1872 Mining Act. In advance of the hearing, Grijalva said it would focus on "the need to buffer this

Parenting is definitely a difficult job and can be challenging to anybody. Many things influence the way you raise your children. Some of the work I do in special education law focuses on dispute resolution. Special ed law is new law. Lawyers generally consider anything that came over on the boat from England to be old law; everything else is new. Laws that came into existence in the 1970's are brand new. Lawyers are more comfortable with old law like contracts and property, where there is often a settled "hornbook" answer, and they can advise their clients with relative certainty. So many lawyers are very uncomfortable with special ed issues. To make matters worse, the procedural rules are strange to seasoned attorneys. In most areas of the law, the aggrieved party must pick a forum. In special ed, however, it is possible for an aggrieved party to pursue four different dispute resolution mechanisms- and this is before going to court. Needless to say, this is very frustrating to lawyers who dislike ambiguity. In special ed law, the party who disagrees, usually but not always the parent, has four options whi

Most of my close friends are Christians, and I've certainly had my share of good friends who were...(gasp)...Republicans. I suppose that we've generally accomplished this through implicit agreements that certain topics are off limits. Other times, we'll discuss something briefly, disagree and realize the futility of persuading the other party, and then agree to disagree, setting the topic aside.A Load of Bright just did an interesting post on the subject of agreeing to disagree, and I think it warrants comment. The just of the post is that it isn't always easy to agree to disagree - sometimes one wants to continue the argument, risking being called "a bad sport" or worse. Often, one must make a judgment call as to whether the disagreement is genuinely unresolvable or whether the other party is merely hiding being the agreeing to disagree suggestion so as not to give serious reconsideration of his or her position. What is not directly addressed in the post and what I believe to be cr
Often in a discussion, whether in person or online, the person I am talking to will declare, “let’s just agree to disagree”. Sometimes I accept this and let the debate end there, and sometimes I get a bit annoyed and try to press my point. When I do the latter, I am told that I’m a bad sport, or I’m accused of suffering from an obsession to force people to agree with me.
Let me explain how I decide my course of action when I hear those familiar words. If there is a genuine stalemate, that is, if there are key issues to the discussion that simply cannot be resolved through objective, rational means, if our views clearly cannot be reconciled through progressive, evidence based discussion, then I have absolutely no problem agreeing to disagree. I may even suggest it myself.
What really presses my buttons, is someone hiding behind “let’s just agree to disagree” to save face while retreating from an argument that they know they have lost. Imagine, if you will, a footbal
Unlike my brothers on the left, I won't ascribe my disagreement with Bush to his evil nature or his daddy complex or Halliburton. Bush sees that most people in Kosovo are ethnic Albanians and Muslims (although they've only become the majority recently) and that they don't want to be part of Serbia, and he says thinks it would be a smart thing to just cleave that part off of Serbia and make it independent (or part of Albania, really). Bush wants less conflict in the Balkans.
I side with the Serbs on this one, however. Kosovo is part of their country and its understandable that they want to keep their nation whole. Most Southerners didn't want to be part of the United States during the Civil War and we prevented them from leaving (although I don't think it's ridiculous to think that the South should have been able to decide for themselves). And, something similar could happen to us again as it happens in many countries around the world from Quebec to Scotland to East Timor. It'
Scientists around the world have been diligently working to figure out why Kelly Brook has the appeal that she does - and it turns out the 34E/24/34 knockout is - in the realm of men’s tastes - the perfect woman. Check it out:
THE HAIR
Kelly has been blessed with naturally long, thick chestnut curls. Hair extensions are definitely not required. Shiny locks have long been a marker of health and therefore make a woman instantly more attractive to men.
THE FACE
Dr Ben Jones of Aberdeen University’s Face Laboratory said: “Men from all cultures are drawn to a babyish face with big eyes and arched eyebrows which seem consistent with high oestrogen levels.” Kelly ticks all the boxes.
THE BOOBS
Her 34E bust has no need of a silicone boost. But there are plenty of women who would kill for such curves…or at least pay a plastic surgeon to get them. One, Lisa Sacks says many of her clients beg her for boobs just like Kelly’s.

Bank of England independence is proving its worthiness as it raises interests for the fourth time in ten months, reports The Times. In an effort to curb inflation by reducing borrowing and increasing saving, the Bank of England has raised interest rates in 5.5 per cent. Further increases are expected. This is sound economic policy, for too long credit has been cheap and it has shown in record levels of debt and demand industry cannot meet. While it make prove unpopular at the moment, with mortgages being pushed up, it is better in the long term for the British economy to be stable and inflation low. There are obvious political impacts, with insolvency rising to record levels and complaints over the rising prices of mortgages. Before Bank of England independence, the Chancellor may be tempted to cut interest rates before elections. If Brown still had control over interest rates, he may be tempted to cut them, make capital cheaper and therefore encourage people to borrow, especially if he
Differences between Whitney Houston and her producer/mentor Clive Davis are threatening to hold up the scheduled June release of her anticipated comeback album.
Charlton wrote on her website:
“She and her producer Clive Davis are clashing- he wants one thing and she wants another. Whitney wants to stick to her successful old formula and use her own people on the album while Clive has new ideas. He wants new people like Christina Aguilera to collaborate with Whitney. Whitney seems to think she doesn't need any new people while Clive insists they change with the times.
“Whitney's pal Ray J has a song he recorded with Whitney that he's dying to release on his album, but Clive's label, Jive, isn't cooperating. Whitney's a handful, but Clive knows she's worth it."

I agree with IGN Comics that Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel of the MCU, is one numero uno babe, and one of the best women in the MCU's cast of characters. I do not however, agree with this part:After the events of Civil War, Ms. Marvel is poised to be one of the most powerful characters in comics. After Civil War, and the eight issue of Carol's new series, they came pretty close to rendering her unlikable. Blogger Calvin Pitt (via Mortlake on the Shuylkill) said that:I haven't hated the main character of a book I bought this much since Tim Drake at the end of Robin's first One Year Later arc (the little bastard).Carol took on a standing as dreadful as those of Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man in CW, and if we're past that now, we - and she - should only be so lucky.IGN's right that Ms. Marvel is a number one hottie, but they shouldn't promote her based on a miniseries as terrible as Civil War was. That's superficial at worst, and obscures many of the deeper details about CW.

Agreeing To DisagreeSomeone told me a long time ago there are two things you don't discuss with drunks: Politics and religion! And, though I think it is a true statement, sober folks don't always discuss these subjects with the best tact. Pro Live vs. Pro Abortion; No new taxes vs. we need new taxes; Bring the boys home vs. We need to send more troops! Now, if you want to see the discussion turn real nasty start talking about religion. Those discussions can get so bad they'd make Billy Graham cuss. I am not talking about discussions by just everyday people or drunks; I am talking about discussions by faithful members of the church. And while I don't agree with coming to blows by the Word of the Lord, I have seen so many of these discussions end with the parties agreeing to disagree. While I am sure God doesn't want us to beat one another with the Bible, does he want us to agree to disagree? To the church in Corinth Paul wrote, "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of ou
Over this past weekend I was browsing news sites on the web and came across a CNN clip of an interview with Neil Young outside his recording studio. Neil Young's new album is focused entirely on an anti-Bush, anti-war message. Being one who believes that history will be a far better judge than the hysterical media and partisans in today's rabid political climate, the interview caught my attention. I was immediately struck by several realizations that were contrary to my preconceptions:
• Though we are political polar opposites, I genuinely liked Neil Young and enjoyed listening to him.
• His arguments didn't change my mind, but they were reasonable and made me pay attention.
• He acknowledged not everybody agrees with him and that everybody sees this issue differently.
• Most importantly, I felt no hatred or venom coming from him; his feelings were heartfelt with no hint of political motivation.
How does this apply to Christians and our unique worldview?

Joseph Biden, Chuck Hagel, and Carl Levin at a press conference about Iraq troop increase. Photo by: Reuters.Republicans are disagreeing with other Republican Senators and Democrats are disagreeing with other Democrats on Iraq policy. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska) said that "it essentially isn't going to make any difference how many more troops†we sent to Iraq. This estimate was based on a new intelligence report that shows the outlook for curbing the violence in Iraq as bleak.Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) who has been campaigning for a troop increase for several weeks now, said that even though we may not know the outcome the risk of failure is too great to give up. McCain went on to say that "a bloodletting in Baghdad that makes Srebrenica look like a Sunday-school picnic.†McCain was referring to the massacre of the Bosnian Muslims by the Serbian forces. Pres. Bush wants to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq. I totally disagree with him as usual. It’s time to bring all the troops back home. A lot of people have died (Go to the Iraq-nam blog and see who) and a lot of money has been wasted. I hope Congress will stop the President’s plan. There’s a reason why the constitution has checks and balances and it’s time for Congress to exercise the power to do just that.Personally I think the President is sending additional troops to Iraq as a launching point into an invasion of Iran. Why else is there a naval build up in the gulf? It’s not just me. 70% of the American people disagree with Pres. Bush. And he’s been criticized by several newspapers and TV programs. The people have spoken but will it matter? Time will tell.http://www.themilitant.com/2007/7103/index.shtmlOn another note here in Bangladesh “the people” can’t even have a peaceful election.
