Shot just before sunrise at East Coast Park, Bedok. We had our VEC2 Caregroup getaway event. Lots of food, drinks, fun and fellowship in the Lord. Lots of fun but little sleep (for me at least). I just to wait for dawn and see the sunrise in this part of the world and it was good. (Below - photo of sunrise by the beach). Both shot with 50mm. The 50mm is a great walk around lens for me, so far, may

Wrapping itself around your waking dreams like a warm blanket,
Then gently touches your eyelids, your mouth, your body;

Well, running your own business is never easy! This summer we’ve found a little more time than usual so we are taking a [...]
Two fair-sized tidal energy projects are on their way to the east coast. First up is the Edgartown-Nantucket Tidal Energy Plant Water Power Project. The project proposes 50 underwater turbines turned by the ebb and flow of the tide. A 3 mile-long transmission line would carry the electricity generated to land, where it would be sold to local utilities. Edgartown and Nantucket would be the benefici
I left work a little earlier than the rest to attend my class KB's barbecue gathering at East Coast Park.The initial plan was to sleep through bus 196, which would definitely take longer than an hour. Before leaving the office, I was advised to take train and transit to bus instead. The entire information gathering progress killed more of my time and I could have just proceeded to my own plan in t
It was a really early start this morning - 4.45am we got up and left the campsite at 5.30am.The reason for the extremely early start is our white water rafting trip. There were no hiccups on the trip from Canada to the USA, we even managed to get Tom back in after a bit of paperwork. The rafting place was just over the border. Karola and all the guys got into the rafting gear, then it was on the b
A beautiful sunny morning! Even warm. We had breakfast packed up the tents and punctually at 9.30am we were on our way to Montreal. It was a long drive and unfortunately we didn't take the "weather with us", it got consistently worse and by the time we got to Montreal it was really raining!I suppose we were lucky we got stuck in traffic, as by the time we pulled up at the campsite the rain took a
Cabins at Quebec! What luxury and even better they had little electric heaters. Half of the group went into Quebec drinking, but I stayed at the cabin with Erica, Catherine and Stephen. Today Toronto is on the programme, whilst the others went sightseeing, I went in search of help with my camera. I found it at "Japan Cameras" in Eaton Place. The guy there was really helpful and I now know that the camera is fine, it is the lens that is broken. I convinced the guy that I really did want to buy a new lens and am now the happy owner of a zoom lens, which I would have bought sooner o

Today's part of the extended Bank Holiday involved a trip to the seaside. We picked a particular location over leisurely breakfast as a casual, last minute change of plan.Arriving, the sun had forgotten to shine and the place was rather more 'atmospheric' as a result. On the East Coast, however, Mexican gangs are a recent phenomenon. In the past several years, East Coast cities have experienced an increase in the creation of gangs consisting of Mexican nationals. There are many experts who believe the North American Free Trade Agreement ( NAFTA), enacted in 1993, which promised an increase in the national employment rate of Mexico, is partly to blame for the

We have been out here for a few days now, and haven’t found much other than some small suburbs. There are no real “big cities” around here, which is a shame. The closest semi-big city is probably about 20 miles out of the way. But we have been making the most out of it. Along [...]
Joell Ortiz (born July 6, 1980) is a Puerto Rican rapper from Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 17, Ortiz made the decision to pass on both an academic and basketball scholarship to stay in Brooklyn. He was featured in the "Unsigned Hype" column of the March 2004 issue of The Source and was also selected as Chairman's Choice in XXL. During the same time Ortiz also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports Battle which earned his song "Mean Business" a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack. The same year he was offered a contract to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label. The deal quickly soured, resulting in bad blood between Ortiz and Dupri. In 2007 he signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath record label. Joell has since collaborated with KRS-One and Kool G. Rap.Though signed to Aftermath, Ortiz released his debu

Our last full day in Brisbane was another absolute beauty! There's something to be said for travelling with kids. In the past, holidays have been exhausting experiences. And while climbing volcanoes in Guatemala, taking in the view of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak on a long walk, touring Dublin's pubs, and cramming in 100 Chelsea galleries in a New York afternoon were all richly rewarding experiences, you're sentencing yourself to high anxiety if you try that sort of thing with little kids in tow.
Not to say you can't do all of this with toddlers (except the volcano… that was hard), just that - if personal sanity is important to you - it's best to take a measured approach to vacations. Toddlers make you slow down. They ti
Do you have a Digital Camera? I hope that you use it frequently...because if, like me, you use it only sometimes, you risk to "damage" its battery. Camera batteries (or batteries in general) are very delicate...you need to charge (and discharge) them regularly if you want to preserve their power. But how to find a new battery if you need one? Original accessories, you know, can be very expensive. But thanks to ECP (East Coast Photo) you can find a good digital camera battery at a very interesting price. This site offers batteries for every kind of digital cameras...just select brand and model and order the model you need.The shop is also a nice resource for finding every kind of accessories for your camera like tripods, cases, filters but also cameras, laptop batteries and so on.

We’ve arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, our little boy (20-month-old Seamus), mum and dad. We’re in the northern suburb of Ferny Grove staying with my wife’s sister and her unstoppably Canadian husband.
Our days in Byron Bay were a delight, though not without their challenges. We kicked off with an attempt to walk around the lighthouse. We’d called, and the park ranger said it’d be fine with a kid in a pram. NOT!!! There are about a million steps, high winds and lots of precarious rocky outcrops. The lighthouse and the view are stunning and the walk looks great; but DON’T shell out if you’ve got a toddler in-tow. No refunds…
Byron has some great beachside playgrounds, and the long, flat, sandy be

East Coast Australia Part 4: Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay
John & Seamus at Belongil Beachouse, Byron Bay
With the weather warming and the landscape changing around us – taking on a distinctly sub-tropical feel – the drive from Bellingen to Byron Bay has been the most enjoyable of our trip so far. It was also a great opportunity to be reminded how BIG Australia is.
In 1963 the owner of a banana plantation in Coffs Harbour decided he wanted to encourage more visitors. And so Australia’s first ‘Big Thing’ – the Benny-Hill-esque Big Banana - was built. There are now more than 80 big things in Australia, ranging from cheese to earthworms to avocados. The Big Bana

Archibald Fountain in Sydney’s Hyde Park
With an afternoon and night in Sydney under our belt, our holiday hasn’t been without its ‘challenges’. At the airport in Melbourne, we realised we’d left our little pusher at home, so young Seamus spent a long time in his parents soon-tired arms. The flight up was a stressful event. People without kids have little idea how stressful and embarrassing it can be when your little one cries… especially in an enclosed space (such as an airline cabin).
So I spent much of the 90-minute flight up the back near the toilet, trying to calm and amuse our poor little bub. Still, the Sydney flight was brief enough. It was when we were walking through the Sydney airport terminal
East Coast Australia: Have Kid, Will Travel
After a great time travelling from Australia to Italy and Spain with our little boy a while ago, we’ve decided to stay a bit closer to home this time around. My wife, 20-month-old son Seamus, and I are heading up the east coast of Australia, visiting some of the most popular beach towns between Sydney and Brisbane.
Having just finished a long stint in a job, I want to take a couple of restful weeks. Our priority will be visiting friends and family along the way, taking our time and keeping our schedule intentionally sparse. But holidays aren’t what they used to be.
Ever since little Seamus came along, taking a break from work is no longer about sleeping in, grazing through the day, going out for a nice meal and maybe catching a movie. No, it’s about getting up early and spending the day chasing a ball of energy around all day, putting him to bed, eating take-out food then flopping in front of the TV until passing out at about 9.3

Nothing gets me more enthusiastic about being a sports fan than witnessing the heart and soul displayed during a good streetball run -- and also the brutally honest passion spewing from the witty fans in the bleachers. This past Friday, the best high school ballers from around the U.S. took their collective skills to the most hallowed outdoor basketball court in the country -- Harlem's Rucker Park. The event was the 2nd annual Elite 24 High School All-Star Game and reporting on the happenings was Jackie Chiles from The Airing of Grievances blog. Chiles mentions there was some tension between the local New York fans and the game's MVP, Brandon Jennings, who hails from Compton, California. With the whole east coast, west coast, feel conjuring up images of the silly Tupac-Biggie business, the crowd was killing this kid from the get-go, but by the end of the night he had won Harlem's faithful over with his absolutely dazzling play.Chiles did a nice job reporting on the game and its gift
Clayton is a city boy... don't blame us cos there isn't any beach near to where we live. Growing up in Singapore, I used to cycle at East Coast Park since I was a little girl. The sad thing is I have neglected this popular local beach after I stepped into the working world. During our last trip to Singapore, while DH was driving past East Coast Park, I coaxed him to stop by for a while since we had our car with us. He reluctantly agreed but that decision was probably the best we made in our trip. We seldom do spontaneous things like that, DH is just not that kind but with a crazy wife like me... just be ready with more surprises!We walked along the beach, rented a bicycle and cruised along the park. Clayton was worried the sand getting into his feet but he got over it very fast. Here are some photos of our spontaneous, unplanned East Coast Park trip in Singapore... it was one of the best trips we had... after so long. Clayton loved his bicycle ride... check him out.

This a call to action!This much I know on a day like today. In some places in our supposed "free country" being a queer woman of color can be a crime.Last year on August 16th a group of seven young lesbian African-American friends from New Jersey we're hanging out in the West Village of New York. As they walked by Dwayne Buckle a NY resident, he began to proposition and harass the women including saying homophobic insults and grabbing his own genitals.One of the women had enough and confronted Buckle. Soon a physical fight occurred between him & some of the women. After Buckle pulled out chunks of hair from one woman & chocked another, one of the lesbians, Patreese Johnson pulled a small knife out of her purse & aimed for his arm to stop the attack. A surveillance camera shows the struggle between Buckle & 4 of the 7 women involved.Two men came to stop the attack on the women. By the time the police showed up the women were across the street. Buckle wound up in the hospital fo

HECM reverse mortgage loan data for the first three months of 2007 reveal that east coast markets (particularly those in Florida) are challenging California markets as leaders in HECM reverse mortgage activity. The table below ranks the top 10 Federal Office locations for HECM endorsements in 2006 and shows how these rankings have changed in the first quarter of 2007:
Points worth noting:
Coral Gables (Miami MSA) has surpassed the LA and Santa Ana California offices as the leader in HECM endorsements;
The Tampa Florida office has zoomed from 10th place to fourth place in the rankings;
Of the top 5 Federal Offices for 1Q 2007, two are in Florida and two are in California with the fifth being Boston. In 2006, four of the top five positions were California markets; thus far in 2007, three of the top five spots are east coast offices.
More information on HECM loan activity is available using our HECM Loan Data tool.
