Last week I had the opportunity of driving to Austin as Padma has some official work with the State Government of Texas. This was my third visit to Austin and all of them being by road, in our own car. This is something that always astonishes me in the US. The road network is so good that there could be a great public transport system which has potential of saving millions of dollars in fuel, prevent air pollution. According to the Texas Environment Profiles website air quality problems in the state are very serious and have not met Federal standards for ozone over the last several years. Most of this pollution is from automobile exhausts.Anyway let us not worry about the pollution and spoil our peace of mind. While in California we visited Redwood forest which has trees over 500 ft tall standing on 70-80 ft trunks. Some of the pictures shot on the way to this unique forest. The forest is sited near the Saratoga village. This is a fire station sited near the Saratoga village. I doubt even if big cities in India have such an impressive looking fire station. Like I mentioned earlier, Saratoga and most other villages have infrastructure comparable to any city. Perhaps better than some tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India. I wonder when our country will grow and prosper like this. After Saratoga village the road passes through beautiful forests and mountains. The crew is enroute to the Day Fire on the Los Padres. The fire is curently 4, 228 acres. It started on the Angeles National Forest on 9/4 and burned into the LP, Sespe Wilderness. Crews have had little success finding a safe place to anchor and line the fire in the past 2 days.
