My Road to Online Entrepreneurship
I first heard about being an online entrepreneur from one of my friends. I asked her work and that's what she said to me, honestly I do not have an idea about her work except that it's through the internet. When I got home, I browsed some sites and there I discovered what being an online entrepreneur means. Working at your home and running a business at the
Eastern Europe is usually known for the quality education and skilled labor force. However, entrepreneurs and students have a strong feeling that while the education here teaches well the theoretical stuff, it lacks the flexibility and capacity to adapt to the real world environment and demands.
That’s why I was impressed to see that abroad education [...]

Jeff Chavez came up with an interesting article on what he calls 11 Killer Instincts of Entrepreneurship. As usual, I’m copying them over so I could give you my feedback.

I’m quite amazed that hardly anyone mentions frustration as a source of entrepreneurship, business ideas and innovation. Most of the times, the closest thing to frustration is mentioning about finding or fulfilling a need in the market.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship : Practice & Principles# Author: Peter F. It does not talk of the psychology and the character traits of entrepreneurs; it talks of their actions and behavior. It uses cases, but primarily to exemplify a point, a rule, or a warning, rather than as success stories. The work thus differs, in both intention and execution, from many of the books and articles on innovation and entrepreneurship that are being published today. It shares with them the belief in the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship. Indeed, it considers the emerg

Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new organizations or revitalizing mature organizations, particularly new businesses generally in response to identified opportunities.Entrepreneurship is often a difficult undertaking, as a vast majority of new businesses fail.Entrepreneurial activities are substantially different depending on the type of organization that is being started. Entrepreneurship ranges in scale from solo projects (even involving the entrepreneur only part-time) to major undertakings creating many job opportunities. Many "high-profile" entrepreneurial ventures seek venture capital or angel funding in order to raise capital to build the business. .

Entrepreneurship as a Path to PeaceThe single clenched fist lifted and ready, Or the open hand held out and waiting. Choose: For we meet by one or the other. (Carl Sandburg) NicheGeek.com offers a wonderful example of the latter choice from the Middle East: About five years ago, Stef Wertheimer came across Gamila Hiar, a Druze woman with no formal education who had learned the ancient art of making soap from wild herbs and olive oil as a child. At the time, Hiar was supplementing her family's income, producing about 500 soap bars a week, from a corner in a room underneath her house in Pqi'in, a village in the Galilee region of northern Israel. Hiar, now 68, ended up at Tefen Industrial Park, a bold philanthropic enterprise located about eight miles from the Lebanese border. Wertheimer,

Bersama Membangun Lowongan EntrepreneurshipSampai sekarang, angka kemiskinan dan pengangguran di Indonesia masih sangat besar. Jumlah penduduk miskin tercatat sekitar 49 juta.

Everybody is talking about the entrepreneurship revolution going around in India these days, something which started in the silicon valley some years back. And no, India has not really come into the mainstream of the web 2.0 scene. Try asking a few people (probably bloggers, tech bloggers especially) and see what the answer is. No, I’m not here to write something about someone or try and prove something in this post, it’s just an observation, and not even classified as right or wrong, or good or bad. In this series of articles, I try and go deeper into the state of entrepreneurship (strictly the web 2.0 space) in India, the problems faced by the budding entrepreneurs, and the small consumer internet space in India which seems to be overflowing with all sorts of startups right n

The 2007 Arizona Entrepreneurship Conference is over now and there were a few items I wanted to share - one is that I felt wonderful at acting in the role of the show producer / coordinator; it was my responsibility to manage the catering, the AV, the volunteers and a hundred small details to make sure that the attendees had a rewarding experience. It was not that there were not a few wrinkles, but mainly the event went off smoothly. The rest of the details; content, finances and the other hundred details were undertaken by my mentor and friend Francine Hardaway and the CEO of the Arizona Small Business Association, Ms. Joan Kerber- Walker - what an awesome team to be a part of! The event was presented by the Opportunity Through Entrepreneurship Foundation (OTEF) who seeks to provide education to the disadvantaged to help them escape the cycle of dependency that often traps them in a recurring model that drives abuse, crime and drug use in our culture - show th
I wrote before about Entrepreneur fear - now its time to write again. It seems that back in 2005 I have approached the “fear subject” from the perspective of an entrepreneur wanna be that is looking to start a business. Now, almost 3 years later, I feel like writing more about Entrepreneurs’ fear, because I know more about it.
I believe we should in fact talk about 2 types of fear:
The start-up fear
The fear to keep it going.
There are plenty of resources on the “start-up fear”. This article on “Entrepreneurs being scared of failure” actually puts some interesting numbers: “Almost four in ten would-be entrepreneurs are too scared of failure to do anything about their business idea”. Director of small business at Orange Business Services, Martin Lyne, says: “It’s not the hard skills holding us back so much as our lack of self confidence and fear of failure”. Back in 2005, I’ve defined the start-up fear as fe
I took an entrepreneurship test today. I actually think I did okay on it, but that’s because I studied four days in a row and super studied this morning before the test. It was five short answer questions. I’m really only worried about the first one, which was about gross margin. I memorized what it was, but then there was a question asking how price increases and decreases affect gross margin. I didn’ t know, so I wrote down everything I knew about gross margin and I turned it in anyway. As I was walking out the door, Professor Malfitano came out and asked me if I was satisfied with the answer. I told him straight out that I wasn’t, but I didn’t know what else to put. He tried to give me an example to see if it would help me any so that I could come back in and work on that question, but I still didn’t understand it. I was grateful, though, that he would try to help me on it. Since he did that, I came back to my room and looked in my book to see if
After my initial post on Entrepreneurship stress I received a quite nice feedback from my readers and I’ve finally ended up on doing an interview with Jamie Lentzner from JPD Mom – Running a business while raising a family – priceless to find out about her entrepreneurship story.
Jamie has a very interesting article on Entrepreneurship stress - what she calls the Stress Monster : “This year, uh - let’s just say Mr. Stress Monster has parked his big ol’ Stress ass on my couch, he is watching TV, eating Cheetos, drinking beer, making a royal mess, and does not seem to be leaving anytime soon - I think he showed up around the beginning of June. The worst part of it is that sometimes he actually wakes me up in the middle of the night to discuss things (okay, truth be told he does it EVERY night around 3:00 a.m.) No, I swear I think he has moved in permanently….”
As my company is now in its third year, 2007 seems to be by far the most stress
WSJ’s Raymund Flandez speaks to New York entrepreneur Ari Meisel, 24, who has founded four companies — including three before he was out of high school.
Here’s a great article from the Wall Street Journal about serial entrepreneurs. There are two types of entrepreneurs by nature: entrepreneurs that are founders of one company, and they stay with that company until it blossoms or fails. If it blossoms then they’re all set. The other type of entrepreneur is the serial entrepreneur, these types of people are founders in multiple businesses and of the majority of the times none of them are related to the past one.
Entrepreneurs by nature have the same distinct qualities that you can read here, serial entrepreneurs are the same; only take that and multiply it by 10. Serial entrepreneurs exhibit common traits among them: They have a higher propensity for risk, innovation and achievement. They are less scared of failure. And they are more able to recover when they

Everywhere you turn nowadays, you always hear about venturing into entrepreneurship. But what is entrepreneurship exactly? It is actually defined as the process wherein a group or an individual makes an effort to pursue opportunities to satisfy needs and wants through uniqueness and innovation. Some people have the misconception that entrepreneurs are gamblers in the sense that they take risks and invest in industries that have no record of success. However, the truth is, these entrepreneurs take calculated risks that have the potential to provide them with huge returns. The key factors you need to remember about entrepreneurship are opportunities, innovation, and growth. An entrepreneur sees opportunities in environmental trends and changes that nobody has seen before and pursues this opportunity with whatever resources he has at hand. The second theme in entrepreneurship is innovation which involves transforming and revolutionizing existing products or services to cope up with the cha
This week I got a real Entrepreneurship lesson, from one of my colleagues, a "non-Entrepreneur". The story goes like this.
I have this colleague, Octavian, that every time I look at his yahoo messenger status message says how happy he is, day by day every day (various texts, so it's not a forgotten status). Now, that's a complete blasphemy for an continuously worried and tired part time entrepreneur like myself. (I have to admit that I've been on the dark side of not being excessive happy all my life).
Ok, so on Monday, I couldn't take it no more, and I asked Octavian how does he manage to be happy all the time? (In fact I said that I'm really unhappy with his everyday happiness :) Answer hit me in the face like a true and genuine Entrepreneurship lesson:
"I'm setting small, reachable goals to myself very often. Accomplishing these small goals most of the time make me very happy. For the bigger goals, I make sure I have enough small reachable goals to keep me happy until the b
For some reason, people believe that entrepreneurs are the happiest persons in the World. That happens mostly because people get to know about entrepreneurs only when they got to the "spending time golfing while burning money in my Porsche" period. I mean, entrepreneurs are not famous while spending nights working for their businesses and for an unsure outcome.
Actually entrepreneurs have to endure large amounts of stress starting with the moment they think they might start a business and until the exit point. Entrepreneurship stress comes from many sources, so let's make a list:
Signing contracts with the customers. Is my offer good enough? Will the client pick my solution?
Contract completion. Can we finish the job on time? Quality is good enough? Will the customer be happy with the results?
Getting paid. The customer has delayed payment. Will he send the money or do I have to fight him in the court?
Competition. Damn, they just took my most important customer. What are t
I actually feel physical pain reading Nataly Kogan's 5 dark secrets of Entrepreneurship.
I've came across her blog looking something to cure my "crises of confidence" and she says: "But being an entrepreneur involves consistently overcoming crises of confidence. You feel hopeless about making progress, you think your business is doomed, you think you've made the worst decisions ever. This is a crisis of confidence and you have to work very hard to overcome it. It's a horrible feeling."
Quickly had a look at what she's doing to find out that she "is the co-founder & CEO of Work It, Mom!, an online community and resource for professional moms."
I have no clue why she left her job as a venture firm in New York? Maybe she will write about it later. Seems like an interesting start-up.
I'm not sure if this subject have been validated in theory but here is a thought I have on efficient management. I think that if you are able to use less words in your communication, it's a sign you have an efficient management style. We can think about it on several levels.
Let's suppose you are in the elevator and you meet an old friend or a potential customer. Are you able to explain what your company does in that short amount of time? I bet that in most cases you are not, because one of the following:
You explain features and not pains that are solved
You do a lot of things and not sure on which to focus
You are not sure what are your strengths
But what if you could have a way to "sell" in 30 seconds? Use less words and say the important?
Now, you have a new task for your...web developer. Chances are that you will use more than 3 phrases to say what needs to be done. That's usually a sign that:
You're not saying what you should be saying
You can't communicate e
No need to say that it's really hard for Entrepreneur wanna be to find out relevant information about starting a business in only one place. That's why I'm naturally paying attention to any resource that cumulates knowledge from more areas, in an easy to read/understand format. This being said, I especially enjoyed David V. Lorenzo's blog because I found several categories relevant to my readers:
Entrepreneurship - Start-up
Entrepreneurship - Success
Entrepreneurship - General
Besides the categories, I stopped at several posts that are so familiar to the stuff I write. Like for example:"Why do Most Small Businesses Fail?". I agree with the reasons given in the article, but I would add one reason that actually explains the others: "Un-ability to adapt". Because all the other reasons come from the lack of adaptation to the market signals, requirements and challenges.
I also really enjoyed the "The Three Things You Absolutely Must Know About Starting a Business". Wow, that'
Author: Scott ShanePaperback: 264 pagesPublisher: Edward Elgar Publishing (January 2006)Language: EnglishISBN: 1843768550Despite a wealth of efforts that examine separately the role entrepreneurs and universities play in economic development, no systematic effort has been made to examine the role universities play in promoting economic development through entrepreneurship. This book fills that gap, focusing on policy aspects of government-university partnerships with a discussion both of best practices and problematic strategies. The book begins by tracing the history of American government-university-industry partnerships that have promoted economic development. In succeeding chapters, well-known scholars focus on linkages in different domains such as: technology transfer, innovation networks, brain drain, cluster-based planning, and manufacturing. Practitioner commentaries follow many of the chapters in order to present an evaluation of the arguments from the perspe
Dunia usaha boleh saja berubah cepat. Sayangnya, teori-teori yang muncul, relative tidak diperbarui. Hasilnya? Peter Dracker, pakar ekonom dan manajemen. Langsung menuding.
Entrepreneurship is a multifaceted adventure that, without a doubt, closely resembles a roller coaster ride. When you begin an entrepreneurial journey or “ride,” you are aware of the gamut of experiences, both disappointing and rewarding, that you will encounter as you undertake this challenge.
Entrepreneurial challenges are not unlike most challenges in life. Hard work, long [...]
I read a very interesting post over the weekend at an unlikely blog. Why Don’t We Teach The Science Of Getting Rich In School? was posted over at Absolutelee. Now the blog itself is mostly dealing with making money online, but this particular post is really interesting.
He mentions John Taylor Gatto, which immediately drew me in. What can I say, I’m a fan. You could probably blog about dog biscuits but mention Gatto or Holt and I’ll read it. This post, however, has some really interesting points on why things such as “the skills and values of entrepreneurship” are not taught in schools. And even why they should not be. How can you teach the masses to be individuals? How can you control a large group in a classroom and teach them to guide themselves?
I wanted to point out one great quote from his post. I would love to hear what others feel about this, and about his post in general.
The main problems I see are substituting the school system for proper parenti
Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java, has established the Center of Entrepreneurship Development (CED) to accommodate the creativity of its students. The center set up with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will facilitate students to improve their professionalism.Endung Sutrisno, a Kadin representative, said some research shows that prosperity in developed countries is the result of technology, human resource utilization and entrepreneurship.
While there are plenty of books explaining the roles in an organization I'm not sure what to say about the entrepreneurs. Ok so for a business we have the gatekeeper, the adviser, etc, etc but the entrepreneur can only be and have one role to cover all needs.
I think we can strip down things to 2 major roles/actions that actually define 2 entrepreneur types:
Keeping things at the normality level
Improving and getting performance
First of all, people in general are afraid of changes and do whatever they can to keep things as they "should be", striving for ... "normality". I assume most of the things we do in life are done to keep up with society rules - we dress up certain ways, we talk, act and behave as the society tells us to do. Entrepreneurs do the same. They spend really a lot of time to comply. They should comply with local laws, commercial laws, and all sorts of rules. So we can surely say that entrepreneurs have a role and do actions of keeping things under control, ma
My daughters middle-school 6th grade recently held an innovation fair. Each student had 3 weeks to invent a product. They received guidance on how to find an idea, build a prototype and present to potential investors. At the fair each adult (parent) had $25 to invest $5 each for five different product ideas. In total about 250 students participated. The event was great and there were some great product ideas presented. Many of the kids were dressed in business attire, had a presentation ready and were even able to demonstrate a working prototype. Here are some of the ideas:This is my daughter Liz. She had the idea for an automatic hair detangler brush. She worked hard on the prototype and her presentation and did a great job. She is very competitive and really wanted to win the contest. (That meant many trips for last minute supplies)Here is another great idea, a lighted toilet seat, great for those trips to the bathroom in the night when you don't want to turn on the light or to help us
There is no uncertainty that entrepreneurship and training has led to the hike of sure men from the side of living's pyramid. It has too led to the greatness and growth of sure countries of the reality. In decree to realize the importance of entrepreneurship and training, I will care to determine the entrepreneurship and training. What is Entrepreneurship? An Entrepreneur is a person who accepts fiscal risks and undertakes original fiscal ventures. It is too seen as the individual who risks his capital in establishing a job which its profitability can never be determined at that moment. Education is an action that impacts knowledge or accomplishment. Education increases the power of an entrepreneur to hear original essential skills. Entrepreneurship and training has contributed greatly to the growth of countries such as America, China, Japan, Singapore and Nigeria. Most economy in the reality today sustain continual blow because their citizens depends on their regime for everything. E
I've decided to write about Entrepreneurship failure mostly because it's so hard to find relevant resources on it. I can't really talk about that from my experience, so this post is full of relevant outside links (I have added this after previewing the post - lots of blue on it from the external linking :)
While reading "Founders at work" I thought: we have tons of books about successful start-ups, then who would invest time and money writing about failure? First, I don't think you are truly aware that it's going to be an entrepreneurship failure until it's already a failure and second, even if you think it's going to become a failure - that no reason to brag about it (or put it this way, you would want to fail anonymously). I'm not the only one saying we have so little on failure, Brad Feld says in his blog "I’ve noticed a pattern in many of the VC and entrepreneur blogs I read – very few people ever talk about failure"
And still, Entrepreneurs are really afraid

Our keynote speaker is a woman who embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of late 19th century America - when men were men and the Chinese built railroads. This woman had the opportunity to join the labor force and work under someone, but chose to be her own boss. She also stood fast against giant, faceless corporations who tried to take over her company. This woman, in fact, worked hard to keep her business in the family. Highly laudable. So-called “mom and pop” shops are indeed a rarity today.
So who is this woman, and what does she do?
