How To Steal Jennifer Garners Red Carpet Style, Fashion Blog
Jennifer Garner has been firing up the red carpet lately with some of the loveliest early fall dresses I have seen in a long time. Almost every dress that she wore for the premier of her new movie, The Kingdom, was to-die-for pretty in silky rich fall hues. Paired with cute but sophisticated bangs and shiny chestnut hair, I have to say, overall I’m jealous: Jennifer Garner Unfortunately for us working girls, we don’t have a hairstylist and makeup artists on speed dial or free Gucci dresses in our back pocket. What's New This Week at Life & Style? Couture in the City Fashion Blog
So what's new this week at Life & Style magazine? Check out their front page for all the greatest gossip on baby news (is Nicole pregs or not? I'm skeptical...). Anywho, the hottest trend this week amongst celebs has to be light and airy sun dresses. Whether they are short and sweet or superlong, this is THE staple for the season. I don't know about Gwen Stefani's school girl ensemble though...it's a little too dark and covered up for summer, don'tcha think?Leave it to SJP to turn a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt into a chic summer ensemble! The former Carrie Bradshaw just added a pair of yellow heels and a bright pink tote to her casual look and VOILA!...instant style. I'm so jealous. Life & Style shows you how you can add some effortless color to your summer look with these bright combos. Best of all, these trends won't break your bank (that yellow tunic from H&M only costs $25!!!)I can't believe my eyes...flip flops are in style! Well, this isn't such a surprise r

The Seaton Flagship Store is Now Open, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Have you ever fallen in love with a small shop or boutique while vacationing somewhere beautiful by the sea? The type of store you enter and immediately wish you could take home with you? Seaton is that store. But, for once, it’s in your own backyard.Introducing the Seaton Flagship store, a unique new concept in retail about to make its debut on Melrose and Almont. Owned by the husband and wife team of Mark Freeman and Jill Roberts (who also own the Jill Roberts boutiques), the concept for this new store is rooted in the duo’s fashion label, also named Seaton, a line known for its beachy, casual chic vibe. Unlike the couple’s other stores, Seaton will not be a fashion boutique, but rather a destination for a modern, inspirational and relaxed lifestyle – one that celebrates the state of mind that comes from listening to an ocean crash or watching a beachside sunset. This mindset and aesthetic is carried through the entire Seaton boutique – from the warm and inviting 1500 square

It's Electric, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Cameron DiazKelly RipaChloe SevignyKatharine McPheeKate Hudson (source)Somewhere between robin's egg and turquoise is electric blue, and celebs are flocking to this hue in a big way. An unusual color for summer, electric blue has become a staple with the Hollywood elite on the red carpet and on the streets. Whether it's a daring halter dress like on Chloe Sevigny or a casual tunic like seen on Kate Hudson, there seems to be no limits to where this color can go.For me, there is something about this color that hearkens back to the late 1980's and early 1990's...it's almost neon in nature. This used to be one of my favorite colors to wear in scrunchie and sock form, and I am pleased to see its' return. This is actually a fabulous color for a variety of skin tones, and is especially great for showing of a summer glow.Think that an electric blue frock may be hard to find anywhere past Rodeo Drive? Celebrities are hooked on this trend from the red carpet to a casual brunch, this is THE big hue of the season.Yellow is by no means a popular color historically when it comes to fashion...it's a difficult pigment for most to pull off. However, if you have a great glow from a summer tan, then this is the perfect time to try out this trend. If you are looking for an interesting option to wear to a wedding, birthday party or family gathering this summer, then try a yellow dress.Think that you are too pale for yellow? Not so...if you are fair, then opt for darker shades of yellow and you may be pleasantly surprised that it won't wash you out. Don't be afraid to try out all different shades to see what works best for you. Stay away from patterns if you are worried about trying this trend, and instead look for interesting clean cuts. Mischa Barton (source)It's official...Mischa Barton has been raiding my closet, circa 1994. Although my bathing suit had a little bit of floral infusion, it was very similar to the one she is wearing here. Mischa is notorious for her daring and sometimes questionable fashion choices, be they high waisted pants or see through chain mail dresses, so this is tame in comparison. Though this is not our favorite swimsuit of the season, we have to give Miss. Barton some snaps for not being afraid to wear what she wants and not what everyone else is wearing. With that in mind, we think that Mischa would appreciate the Geftaki Swimsuit line. With bold accessories and cuts that you won't find just anywhere, they have the perfect swimsuits for those that march to the beat of their own fashion drummer. The Black and White Stripes, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Nelly Furtado (source)Lindsay Lohan (source)Gwen Stefani (source)Stars are simply eating up the black and white stripe trend. While I prefer my stripes to be a little more subtle, everyone from Nelly Furtado to Lindsay Lohan and Gwen Stefani are strutting their stuff, referee style.Out of all three of these ensembles, I think that I love Nelly Furtado's geometrical tube dress the best. Bold stripes like these are usually hard to pull off (for example, if you don't have a rockin' bod like Gwen Stefani, her single sleeve striped dress wouldn't be so flattering). Nelly's tube dress is bold, but not over the top and would be fun to wear on a Saturday night. While I'm also not too crazy about Lindsay Lohan's belly baring sequined stripe top, I think that if you are going to do this trend, a top is the way to do it.If you want to go for an edgy black and white stripe look, then try the Rock the Mic top from Kahri. The Mini Debate, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Cameron Diaz (source)This weekend, a newly blonde again Cameron Diaz stepped out in a super cute Kelly Bergin minidress over skinny Corpus jeans. Now, normally, this look would irk me, and I would scold Cameron for hiding her obviously killer legs when she could be showing them off. However, I think that for once, I actually like the dress over jeans combo in this case. Why does it work? Well, for one, Cam's mini is just that, mini, and doesn't have a whole lot of volume or extra fabric. It's a cute, solid colored streamlined minidress that isn't flowy and has just enough detail at the neckline to keep you interested, plus it is paired with an equally skinny pair of jeans. If this dress was any longer or fuller, it may not work as well. Paired with minimal accessories and super cute animal print open toed shoes, I'd say we have a winner!Want to try out the minidress over jeans look for yourself? Well Vested: Mandy Moore, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Mandy Moore (source)Menswear isn't just for men...vests are super hot on us girls too, and Mandy Moore knows just how to properly rock one. By using a cropped vest in a corset-like manner, she turns a pretty, flowy top (that may have otherwise made her look pregs) into a totally chic and casual look. Now I'm going to be honest...vests just don't work for me. I loved them circa 1992...I had quite a collection, most of which had tapestry embellishments. Some, even had jewels. Perhaps this is why I have an aversion to them now, on me at least. My best friend can add one to a t-shirt and a pair of jeans and look super cute, but I'm just not ready for that kind of flash back right now.Anyhow, if you are the kind of fashionista who can take a cropped vest and take a boring ensemble from blah to "OMG, that's cute" then check out this one from Kahri: guaranteed to make everyone ask where you got it from with envy.Kahri Cropped Circle Vest, $104.00

MENS: What To Wear: Waistcoat and Vest, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
I had the privilege of getting an invite to the Topman Fashion show at the Singapore Fashion Festival in late april and immediately fell in love with their clothing. Oh wait, let me rephrase my sentence again.I was lucky enough that the ticket for the Topman/Topshop Unique Fashion show was not sold out and got the 'bird's eye view' from the 8th row. That's better.Anyways, the trend of putting on a waist coat or vest might probably be coming to an end soon but, it is never too late to tag along with the trend, especially when its affordable. For students like me,we cant afford to invest huge sum of money on an expensive waistcoat or vest as it might just be another fad that will fade as time progresses. Thus, getting an inexpensive one from Topman is a great alternative for a designer's clothing. Here are my top 3 pick:Grey Textured WaistcoatGrey textured 5 button waistcoat with button back adjustor and black lining.45% Polyester,55% Wool.Brown 5 Button WaistcoatBrown 5 button waistcoa

What was once a staple on the playground is now celebrity couture, and is reminiscent of last seasons' tube top/shorts jumper ensemble that everyone was wearing. What gives? How much longer can I stand it? Why must Hollywood fashionista's turn little girl togs into trends? So here's the deal; my love hate relationship for jumpers runs deep. I love that they are so casual and cute; but I hate that they are so casual and cute. It seems odd how La Dunst and the Duff try to pair them with such frumpy shoes...I think that Nicky Hilton got it right in the shoe department. This look definitely calls for open toed shoes or sandals.Which brings me to my other point; this is NOT a red carpet look. La Dunst and J. Simp do this look right by wearing them casually for fun in the sun and shopping sprees (althoug

Bizarre Fashion Styles of the Rich and Famous, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton (source)Here's what I will never understand: if you are young, beautiful, rich, famous and have a rockin' bod, wouldn't you want to dress to the nines? I mean seriously, wherever you go, you know you are going to be photographed, right?I gotta give Mischa snaps for her salute to Fleetwood Mac/70's revival look, but I think that we all know that the high waisted jeans are right up there with pleats and acid wash.Lindsay, on the other hand, was photographed earlier that day looking stunning in a black and white ensemble that was chic and yet casual. It frankly made her look more mature than she probably is. So my question would be...why go out for a night on the town looking like you lost your top at a frat party and just borrowed the flannel of whatever guy you were hanging all over that evening?Sigh, I'll never understand...anyways, what do you think of Lindsay's "boyfriend couture" and Mischa's "70's mom-jeans revival?" Everything that Topshop does is golden and up to the minute (read: super trendy), like for instance, right now you can find the very popular amongst celebs primary colored jeans you've been hearing about. It is my sad duty to report, however, that Kate's line appears to be a little bit of a snoozer. I expected something a little more avant-guard I guess...instead I got menswear meets glitter. Seriously...think trousers, button up shirts, tailored vests and sequined dresses. Yawn...it all seems like its so last season.Anyways, if you are amongst the many that think Kate is the living end when it comes to fashion, check out her new line at Topshop available May 1...I know that I'll be skipping it, unfortunately, but who knows? Nicole RichieKatherine HeiglReese Witherspoon (source)Who cares about the time honored tradition "thou shalt not wear white before labor day" (or is it after?). I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of the whole white jeans look...it reminds me too much of middle school and is just way too risky when Aunt Dot comes to visit, if you know what I mean. However, there is nothing more polished than a crisp white dress and nothing more stand out and feminine than a snazzy white suit. But you have to know how to rock it.Nicole Richie pairs her formal white dress with a pair of equally formal red satin heels for the perfect balance of trendy and classy. White or black shoes just wouldn't have worked here, and metallics are SO 2006...love it.Need a more casual look? Kiera Knightly and boyfriend Rupert Friend (source)Jessica Simpson (source)Cameron Diaz (source)As if one gigantic bag wasn't enough...more and more stars have been double baggin' it lately, for lack of a better term. Stars like Kiera Knightley, Jessica Simpson and Cameron Diaz can't leave home without more than one of their duffle-sized carryalls, and I can't say that I blame them.So what's the secret? Why all the baggage? Is one for an extra change of clothing in case of a wardrobe malfunction, or is it just a stylish gym bag? Or is one an undercover laptop bag, diaper bag or eco-friendly grocery bag? It just boggles my mind.Okay, so Jessica is probably in an airport in that one picture, so she has an excuse there, but what gives Cam and Kiera? Halle Berry, Liv Tyler and Christina Ricci love fring benefits (source)Right now, the hottest trend going right now has nothing to do with shoes, purses or designer jeans. One of the most surprising looks of the season is long, chunky bangs. Long gone are the side-swept romantic pseudo bang of yore; these bangs are in your face, quite literally. While most celebs that grace the red carpet could pull off any hairstyle and still look good (we're talking to YOU Halle Berry) sometimes this style makes the wearer look either sever or childish. So, if you decide to take a stab at this hairstyle, talk to your stylist first and make sure you have the right face shape. We also suggest you don't try to do it yourself, for fear that the end results may look like you were trimmed up like a preschooler. What do you think...are bangs "bangin'" or for little girls only?

Since the queen bee of reinvention, the one and only Madonna herself, seems to have given up her post as "most frequent style-changer," we would like to feature a few other celebs with ever evolving styles: 1) Nicole Richie: Richie did her change from light locks to dark in a very classy way; she went with a reddish hue for a while before going directly to a chocolate brown. Fashion Week's Most Bizarre, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
(From Left: Maticevski, Matthew Williamson, Duckie Brown, Abaete source)Hats! Fur! Black patent leather! Ah, Fashion Week is only halfway through, but Fall '07 trends are already becoming apparent. Baby Phat kicked off the "From Russia With Love" theme, which seems to be resonating throughout many other designers styles. However, what I love the most about Fashion Week is the real creativity that goes into each show. Sometimes, this creativity goes a little overboard and verges more into the realm of the bizarre. In the grand scheme of the show, usually the looks aren't that strange, but on their own, they mystify and boggle the mind. Most people won't actually wear these looks...they are just for fun, but I always love seeing what designers come up with. Designers like Viktor and Rolf and John Galliano almost always deliver on the shock factor, but many newbies are also filling that gap. There are still a few more days for strange looks to grace the runway...we'll keep you posted!

Erin Featherstone, Fall 2007 Collection, sourceWe are absolutely in love with designer Erin Featherstone's fall line. Close personal friend of Kirsten Dunst, Featherstone's look has a Parisian flavor and a certain whimsy that you won't find on any other runway. This season, Featherstone opted for flapper-era inspired sparkly caps, textured shimmery tights and equally shimmery frocks. Diane von Furstenberg 2007 fall line(source)Oh, Diane, how I covet your frilly frocks...let me count the ways:1) Diane von Furstenberg brings high end fashion to every day wear. Her dresses are well made and beautiful, but they are also sensible enough to wear to work or for an evening out.2) Her dresses flatter almost any figure; hello wrap dress! With the exception of the bubble dress (which even the thinnest of models have difficulty pulling off) Diane von Furstenberg dresses look good on women of all sizes.3) Her runway reflects the real way that people wear clothes...no useless mesh fingerless gloves or floor length kimono ballgowns here...just beautifully designed and timeless dresses.Tags:Diane von Furstenberg Fashion Week fashion blog

Heatherette Rocks the Catwalk, Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Heatherette 2007 Spring Fashion Show (source)To me, the Heatherette show reminds me of a few things:1) The Heatherette boys went crazy with the Barbie clothing weaving looms. Remember those kits you could get that had the pink circular looms, and you could create sparkly knit leggings for your Barbie dolls? Yeah, that's what this line reminds me of, but add some hot glue gunned buttons and accessories from the craft store, circa 1989.2) This season, "Gaudy" is the new Boho-chic: Gold lame puff jackets? Unnecessary chest harnesses? Fur in surprising places? Elvis' long lost poncho? Yes please!3) Elizabeth Taylor's closet vomited.Isn't fashion week grand? In all honesty, I was disappointed by Heatherette's total lack of imagination in their new line...there isn't one wearable item that you could just throw on with a pair of jeans and have your best friend covet. It's all just a little icky. Oh well, maybe in the fall...Tags:Heatherette Fashion Week

From Left: Jason Wu, Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore, J. Mendel, Venexiana (source)Did they get the memo? This year, fur was the end-all-be-all for coats in almost every collection. Whether as full on trim like on this fab coat from Venexiana or just as a subtle touch, like on the Jason Wu coat, its showing up on every catwalk. However, this could serve as problematic as far as sales go for designers...with more and more celebs and consumers becoming outspoken against fur, these coats may not have a market to be bought it.
