Up until the 1990s, no research had ever been conducted to determine the impact of fluoride on the pineal gland -- a small gland located between the two hemispheres of the brain that regulates the production of the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate the onset of puberty and helps protect the body from cell damage caused by free radicals. It is now known -- thanks to the m
Groups like the American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry just love fluoride, claiming that it is “effective” in preventing tooth decay. But thanks to a new review commissioned by the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs and published in their own journal, JADA, when it comes to children, they may need to start [...]
This year, the state of Nebraska passed a law mandating fluoridation of drinking water but gave communities the chance to opt out by 2010.
Last week, more than 60 communities voted on the issue, the majority of which said no to fluoride.
Jeff Green of Citizens for Safe Drinking Water reports, via the IAOMT:

A number of communities, mostly in Nebraska, passed ballot initiatives on Tuesday allowing them to opt out of state water safety standards that mandate the fluoridation of local drinking water supplies. The Centers for Disease Control identified water fluoridation as one of the ten greatest achievements in public health in the 20th century, so its crushing defeat may shock some. But the
Fluoride is being added to children’s milk in 42 schools throughout the city of Sheffield in the UK, despite the chemical’s known links to liver and kidney damage, cancer and the lowering of IQ.
Fluoride has been proven to have a minimal effect in the prevention of tooth decay, but according to several medical studies, the negative effects of the chemical are legion, far outweighing any posit

In the near future, I plan to post a really fantastic product review on something (that doesn’t have fluoride) that really helps teeth. However, the controversy on fluoride is so extensive, I believe I need to write up a post just to set-up the foundation for the particular product I’m reviewing. So, check back next [...]
In 2006 the National Research Council (NRC) came out with its groundbreaking fluoride report produced by a panel of experts who reviewed hundreds of fluoride toxicological studies revealing that consuming even small amounts of fluoride from tap water can be hazardous to your health. While dental groups and individual dentists claim this report has nothing to do with fluoridation, the followi
If most people did not want fluoride added to their fresh water supplies, years ago, why were they not given the option to buy fluoride supplements instead? Mass fluoridation of our nation's municipal water supplies has never had anything to do with safe dental health from the earliest get-go. Arbitrarily, it has been a blatant political maneuver, in covering up of the the dumping of toxic wastes
School Dinners Debate: Junk Food May Harm Toddlers’ Ability to Learn (Guardian)
Children who are brought up on a diet of junk food at the age of three are more likely to make slow progress at school, educational researchers have discovered.
They found diet in the preschool years has more influence on a child’s ability to learn [...]
In nutritional terms Fluoride is a mineral. Fluoride prevents dental caries (cavities) in children when level of fluoride in water is inadequate. Fluoride treats osteoporosis with calcium and vitamin D, but use must be monitored by a physician.
Some foods that provide Fluoride include include apples, cod, calf liver, tea, eggs, kidney, water (not bottled),canned salmon and canned sardines.

The wheels of science grind very slowly. Finally, the first half of the work that was the subject of Jennifer Luke's Ph.D. thesis; presentation in Bellingham, Washington (ISFR conference) in 1998 and a videotaped interview I had with her (see www.fluoridealert.org/videos.htm), has been published in Caries Research. In my view this work is of enormous importance and could be (or should be) th

Recent research demonstrates clearly that drinking fluoridated water does not prevent cavities. The same research shows a growing list of harmful effects. In a recent Globe and Mail article (Nov 28, 2007) Warren Bell, former head of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment stated; "The days of wholesale deliberate fluoridation ... are numbered." There have been significant developments in policy and in the research which are worth noting. For example, Health Canada now states that prescribing controlled doses of pharmaceutical grade fluoride under the care of a doctor is no longer recommended: "Health Canada does not recommend the use of fluoride supplements (drops or tablets)." Fluoride is a toxic chemical. Read the government warning
From 'Second Thoughts about Fluoride,' Reports Scientific American : "Fluoride, the most consumed drug in the USA, is deliberately added to 2/3 of public water supplies theoretically to reduce tooth decay, but with noscientifically-valid evidence proving safety or effectiveness," says lawyer Paul Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. Fagin, award-wining environmental reporter and Director of New York University's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program, writes,"There is no universally accepted optimal level for daily intake of fluoride." Some researchers even wonder whether the 1 mg/L added into drinking water istoo much, reports Fagin. After 3 years of scrutinizing hundreds of studies, a National Research Council (NRC) commi
1) Fluoride's ability to damage the brain represents one of the most active areas of research on fluoride toxicity today.
2) The research on fluoride and the brain has been fueled by recent human studies from China finding elevated levels of fluoride exposure to be associated with reduced cognitive ability (e.g. reduced I.Q.) in children. Sources:Fluoride Action Network
According to a study by Cancer Causes and Control, an online peer-review journal of Harvard University, drinking fluoridated water causes osteosarcoma, a rare malignant bone tumor. The study found an association between fluoride levels in drinking water during childhood and osteosarcoma for males diagnosed before age 20 years. In a potential cover up, Harvard University officials and Federal investigators wanted to determine whether a Harvard professor hid research suggesting a link between fluoridated tap water and bone cancer in adolescent boys.
In the four years since the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) decided to add fluoride to the tap water of millions of Californians, the American Dental Association (ADA), scientists at Harvard University, and the prestigious National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academy of Sciences have all raised serious concerns about the safety of fluoridated water for infants and young children. This steady stream of science represents a growing consensus within the mainstream public health and dental community that the health risks of fluoride in tap water may substantially outweigh the modest dental benefits of tap water fluoridation.

Recently, the little town of Brevard in the mountains of western North Carolina heard the concerns of one of its citizens regarding the continued use of flouride in the town's drinking supply. Ed Daigle, a distinguished looking elderly gentleman who bears more than a striking resemblance to Wild Bill Hickcock, had done his research and didn't like what he found. He brought his concerns to the town's City Council and put his case before them.

The American Dental Association (ADA) did a turnabout in November of 2006, finally issuing a much-needed warning to its members not to give infants fluoridated water. Unfortunately, this warning was distributed to the public by the health agencies in some states, but not in others.
Adding fluoride to the drinking water (to prevent tooth decay) has been standard practice for 60 years. But the practice has come under scrutiny as fluoride has been banned by more and more European countries.
Too much fluoride in the body can lead to fluorosis, a discoloring of the teeth and breakdown of enamel (a result diametrically opposed to the dental health it supposedly is meant to prevent.)
Studies done overseas have found that even mild fluorosis is linked to lower IQ’s, problems with the endocrine system, and skeletal damage like increased risk of bone fractures.
Children enrolled in the Women, Infant and Children’s Nutrition program (WIC) are particularly at risk, since the WIC program on
Award-winning journalist Christopher Bryson, a former producer at the BBC, discusses the findings of his book The Fluoride Deception in the incredibly important video below. If you still think fluoride is good for you, or if you want to know more about the dangerous deception surrounding the widespread use of this toxic chemical in the United States, this video is a must-see.You may also want to check out the exclusive interview that we conducted with Christopher Bryson. “The Fluoride Deception” is much more than a book about the dangers of fluoride -- it reveals a multi-tiered effort, or as Bryson says an abuse of power, by military and industry scientists and public health officials to shamelessly promote fluoride to the dentistry field and the American public with little regard to the implications it would have on human health.

WHAT IS TRUE?
Fluoride has been a major public health success in preventing dental caries, a disease which, although now present at a much lower level than previously, is still almost ubiquitous. It is generally accepted that a major factor in the improvement in oral health has been the fluoridation of water supplies and the widespread use of fluoride toothpastes.
The practice of dumping toxic-waste fluorosilicates into public water supplies in the name of fighting tooth decay has just received another damper. According to a recently released Chinese study, there is a clear relation between fluoride levels in the water that is consumed by a population and low Intelligence quotient scores of children who do the consuming.I wonder why there is a generalized push to introduce fluoridation in some countries. When will the authorities that are supposed to protect our health finally wake up to the fact that they are doing us a disservice by following big money contributions from chemical companies and their manipulated "science" in making decisions on important health matters? From Fluoride Action Network Monday, August 25, 2003 Children's intelligence declines as their natural drinking water fluoride levels increase, concluded a Chinese study in the May 2003 journal, "Fluoride." Children scored inferior IQ's even when fluoride levels were similar to
In this video, Christopher Bryson, an award-winning journalist and former producer at the BBC, discusses the findings of his new book The Flouride Deception.
From an early review of The Fluoride Deception:
"Bryson marshals an impressive amount of research to demonstrate fluoride's harmfulness, the ties between leading fluoride researchers and the corporations who funded and benefited from their research, and what he says is the duplicity with which fluoridation was sold to the people. The result is a compelling challenge to the reigning dental orthodoxy, which should provoke renewed scientific scrutiny and public debate."

Q: Dr. Mercola-
I know from reading your articles that fluoride is bad for our bodies. If we can't avoid it in the water we drink, what are the best ways to prevent it from doing harm to our system?
Thanks!A: Your assertion is absolutely incorrect. You can avoid it. All you need to do is get a reverse osmosis filtration system or move to a municipality that doesn't add fluoride to their water. This is easy in Europe as very few communities fluoridate. Personally I live on a property in which I have my own well.

File under "Duh." Newstarget reports: ADA reverses position, warns its members that fluoride is too dangerous to be consumed by infants. On Nov. 9, the American Dental Association released an email alert to its members warning that, in order to prevent tooth damage, fluoridated water should not be mixed into formula or foods intended for babies aged 1 and younger.
Currently, two-thirds of the U.S. public water supply has fluoride chemicals added, a move centered on a now-disproved theory that fluoride ingestion prevents cavities.

The Environmental Protection Agency, which sets allowable water fluoride levels, is required to consider the most vulnerable members of a population, so allowable fluoride levels should be near zero to protect infants.
