They met in Madrid. in mid July to plot & plan. I quote from their official statement. I have added emphasis to make the critical phrases stand out. Didn't he get fired for having racist ideas, and communicating those ideas? Isn't he still the same person? Couldn't he say racist things in the future?Yes, he might. I for one don't think he will, given the consequences of his previous racial remarks. However, the fact that he is back says a few things about society.People will tolerate (or be forced to tolerate) individuals known to have racist inclinations, if it will generate revenue. It's been made clear that the decision to rehire Imus is more based in business than anywhere else. However, just because people are going for the money doesn't mean that that's all there is to it. I

It succeeded only in condemning a simplified caricature of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, and not the actual set of events that the Berkeley College Republicans organized. In order to prove that any discussion of Radical Islam must surrender to political correctness, the Daily Cal relied on its own dishonest rendition of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, since the event had yet to occur. We have dedicated Oct. 22 through 26 to raising awareness of Islamo-Fascism. Funding the Beast: Free Speech v Campaign Finance Reform

Armed with the right to free speech guaranteed in the First Amendment, parties and their candidates are leaping into another campaign season unharnessed by spending limits, fundraising restrictions, or meaningful caps on soft money expenditures. First, a recap on current campaign finance rules in the US. Most of today's laws governing campaign finance were introduced in 1971, with the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). Free Speech: Dimpled Chad 4 Jesus?
The U.S. Supreme Court thinks it's okay that a principal punished a student who unfurled a banner outside school that read, "BONG HiTS 4 JESUS." But what about "Impeach Bush" or "Love Allah?" Welcome to the murky waters of what's allowed on campus as student free speech. In a 5-4 ruling, the court found yesterday that schools can limit speech that promotes the use of illegal drugs. Judges sided with a high school principal in Alaska, who confiscated the sign and punished the student. That's not to say that students shed all rights to free speech when they step on a campus. Quite the opposite. Two of the judges in the majority -- Samuel Alito and Anthony Kennedy -- went out of their way to note that their decision "provides no support for any restrictions of speech that can plausibly be interpreted as commentary on any political or social issue, including speech on issues such as 'the wisdom of the war on drugs or of leaglizing marijuana for medicinal use.' Free Speech and Religion: Difficult Questions
We Americans value our freedom of speech, but many of us feel uneasy about allowing harassment, hate speech, or intimidation. Thus, most of us support some sort of limits on free speech. Even those who do not must recognize that the law already limits free speech in many ways. For example, verbal threats of bodily harm count as simple assault in the criminal code of many states. Legislatures and courts continue to struggle over finding an appropriate balance, often managing to please almost no one. Fitting religion in this mix is especially problematic and raises a number of disturbing questions.I have little trouble with most anti-discrimination laws, including those that list religion alongside variables such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, etc. An atheist employer should not legally be able to fire a Christian employee solely on the basis of that person's religion. To do so would be discrimination, and I agree that this is wrong. Of course, I also e

First, you should know two things: I like to have a drink now and again -- you might have realized that by the name of this blog! -- and, I've made a good chunk of my living for the last 24 years in advertising and public relations. My attitude is that if a product is legal, the marketers of that product ought to be able to legally advertise it so long as the methods of advertising the product do not suggest a usage for the product that goes outside legal boundaries. For instance, sports cars are a legal product. They can and should be advertised. However, GM should not be allowed to advertise that the Corvette is particularly we suited for night racing on neighborhood streets at 130 miles per hour. That's why I don't see a problem advertising beer, wine and spirits. Communists assist Islamists in resolution against free speech
We learn this week that in the latest scummy act at the United Nations, Islamic countries have pushed through a resolution "urging" global prohibition of "defamation" of religion with the help of the commies:GENEVA (AP) - Islamic countries pushed through a resolution at the U.N. Human Rights Council on Friday urging a global prohibition on the public defamation of religion - a response largely to the furor last year over caricatures published in a Danish newspaper of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad. The statement proposed by the Organization of Islamic Conference addressed what it called a "campaign" against Muslim minorities and the Islamic religion around the world since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The resolution, which was opposed by a number of other non-Muslim countries, "expresses deep concern at attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations."It makes no mention of any other religion besides Islam, but urges countries "to

      “Bong hits” 4 free speech?
The protection of first amendment rights for school students has surfaced again with the Supreme Court currently deciding on whether punishing a high school student for a banner containing the slogan, “Bong hits 4 Jesus” was appropriate in Alaska. The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) cautions:“Although students’ rights can be limited in the school setting, students do no check all of their rights to free expression at the schoolhouse gate. A balance between the students’ rights to free expression and the school’s interest in maintaining a safe and effective learning environment is the touchstone for understanding how the First Amendment works in schools.”TPO is weighing in on this matter while eagerly awaiting the Supreme Court decision! There seem to be two discussion points on this issue.(1) The first point is whether “Bong hits 4 Jesus” is a nonsensical message with no serious reference to drugs. Schools have been able to prohibit slogans a

Can the law against denial of the Turkish slaughter of Armenians jeopardize free speech?
In my previous post, I touched briefly on the French parliament's approval of a law against denying Turkey's genocide against Armenia in 1915, one of the last acts of evil perpetrated by the Ottoman empire before it broke up in the early 1920s. But now that I think of it some more, is it possible that the law could end up doing more harm than good, and even make it more difficult to combat Islamofascism effectively?Well, now that I think of it, yes, there certainly is that danger, and considering that this is France, a country that's been victimized many times before, even by Muslim piracy in the 16th-18th centuries, that's why it probably would be better if the law were left undone. In these troubling times, it'd be very ill-advised for anyone to take steps that could actually backfire and play into the hands of the enemy in Europe, and even the United States. The passing of the law was apparently done in order to complicate Turkey's entry into the EU, but as it so happens, Turke

      Free Speech Zones
Free Speech Zones We seem to live in a world wherein one's woes and frustrations are no longer private and personal. Technology may compel us to share any expressions and sentiments. Democratic Leadership Prepares Limits to Free Speech
I found this post at Right Truth, incredibly disturbing. San Fran Nan is just a Grandmother huh? The Democrats slowly let the American people in on their plans......From Right Truth, "Nancy Pelosi to undermine free speech":It seems that the Nancy Pelosi plans to 'ram through a new law that would seriously undermine free speech - and put restrictions on conservative groups and others who encourage ordinary citizens to directly deal with Congress.' (hat tip Mind of Mog who says, "Oh gee, just what I wanted… that shrew Pelosi to curb my free speech.") Will Pelosi's plot apply to bloggers? "The . . . plan is perhaps the most comprehensive regulation of political speech ever proposed, and would make small grassroots causes report quarterly to Congress — the same as K Street lobbyists representing wealthy interests before Congress,' Viguerie says. "The reporting requirements and more severe penalties being written in response to recent congressional corruption scandals wou
