Former Speaker of the U.S. House Newt Gingrich recently addressed the market meltdown with unusual candor, including his assertion that President Bush does not understand the crisis. He also called for the resignation of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
Newt Gingrich was quoted today while talking about this insane bailout for Wall St. and the socialization of the economy as well as the potential of too much consolidation of power in America. The following quotes were taken from an interview on NPR by Melissa Block."Well, I think they're just wrong. MACON, GA…12/11/07 5:20pm EST…At a rally for supporters today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich announced his candidacy for the 2008 Presidential Election. Quizzed about his late start, Gingrich stated "The Republican Party is almost dead - literally - so I'm doing whatever I can to prolong the inevitable.†Asked then about his chances of winning the Republican primary, Newt stated "It's going

Please watch it, removed from the partisan politics that we all harbor, and I think you'll find it as moving as I do. It is indeed a reminder of where we've been and where we need to go.
Newt Gingrich has finally ended speculation about a possible White House run in 2008.Personally, I think this is a good thing. Newt can still help bring about the changes that he believes the country needs without being a presidential candidate. For the GOP, it lets focus continue to be on the current candidates. Thompson's delay in enterring the race hurt the start of his campaign, and I fear the same might have been true for Newt.Besides, Newt's year might be the 2012 election if Hillary wins 2008. He could be the familiar conservative face/name to rally around after a few painful years under another Clinton.
the following is an article written by former Speaker of the House, Newt gingrich and we he decided against running for President. His selflessness on this matter is highly admireable. You can read the article HERE
Even being a long time fan of Newt Gingrich I have to chuckle at this. This was my first time to this blog but I imagine Ill keep checking back. I dont know what Mother Davis political persuasion is but she has some down home common sense and besides, I always love a good allegory. ~RJH Irregular Times article link Newt Gingrich is Lady Catherine de Bourgh Mother Davis puts down her embroidery as she notes,Newt Gingrich is the Lady Catherine de Bourgh of the 2008 presidential campaign. In Pride and Prejudice Lady Catherine de Bourgh tells everyone who comes to her mansion how they ought to practice the piano more, and comments that, if she had ever learned to play the piano herself, she would have been a true proficient.Newt Gingrich is now playing the same sham game. Last week, Gingrich promised to run for President in 2008 if supporters could get 30 millions dollars in pledged contributions for him in three weeks. Heck, J. Clifford pledged 5 trillion dollars himself, just to see
I dont think it was a matter of him not getting the $30 million (although I do not think he got it anyway) but I think it is more possible one of the already announced candidates has offered him a VP slot on their ticket. Mitt Romney maybe? He would be a good counterbalance to Romney who is seen as too socially liberal by many conservatives. Yeah, I am sticking my neck out on this one but thats what my gut feeling has been for some time. ~RJH RedState article link Gingrich won't run California Yankee Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has decided not to run for president.Gingrich recently said he would run if at least $30 million was contributed to his campaign by October 21.Gingrich, 64, has hinted for months that he would join the 2008 presidential race if he determined no other candidate appeared able to take on the Democrats in 2008. I guess Newt didn't get that $30 million.
For a while, I have been predicting that Newt Gingrich would try for a VP slot on the ticket of an already active candidate. Today he has announced that he will not run for the presidency in 08. It does not come as any huge surprise as waiting as long as he did and then saying he would have to get $30 million in pledges in three weeks time just seemed incredible. This story would seem to indicate he might well end up on the Mitt Romney team. Too many negatives Newt! But going at it this way might be a reasonable way to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of the voters. It is almost a relief that he has declined to run. I like Newt and would love to have a chance to kust sit and discuss history with him but I have very ambivalent feelings about him as our president. ~RJH Washington Post article link Gingrich Decides Against Presidential Bid By Michael D. Good morning! Tonight has the potential to be a huge night. At 7 PM Eastern, former Republican Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich opens up his "Solutions Day" initiative with a speech at the Cobb Galleria neat Atlanta, GA. There is a full day of workshops being hosted at the University of West Georgia and all over the country on Saturday. Mike Huckabee will be leading one on Education from New Hampshire Saturday afternoon. There is also one being led by Libertarian talk show host, Neal Boortz and my Congressmen, John Linder (R-GA) on the Fair Tax. It all gets started at 7 PM tonight. You can watch it right there online Be sure to test your ability to watch ASAP so you don't miss it. You can see it on DIRECTV 577 and DISH Network 219 as well. Following that will be tonight's debate from Baltimore, MD on PBS from 9-10:30 PM Eastern. Mike Huckabee will be there but yet again "Rudy McRomneyson" will be absent. It is appalling to me to see so many Republicans skipping out on thi
Many people see Newt Gingrich as a Republican version of Hillary Clinton in the sense of being divisive and having rather high unfavorable numbers. I see Newt as one of those people that you love or hate and either one is felt strongly. I am on the I like Newt side even knowing how high his unfavorable ratings are. A large part of that is because he is a historian and history is a real interest of mine. I think knowledge of history, and it is sorely lacking in most people, gives real insight into the thought processes and actions of others. Man himself has not progressed all that much since the time of Alexander The Great. We live longer healthier lives and have a higher technology base than back they did. Nevertheless, has there been any real advancement? No, not really. And Newt does understand this. Do I really want Gingrich to run? I do not know. I read an interesting quote from a Gingrich staffer some time ago. He said that Newt would have these big visionary ideas to get proj
I have been a fan of Newt Gingrich since the early 90s. He was instrumental in taking away a Congressional majority that the Democrats had held non-stop for over 40 years. It was with a very definite sense of shock that the Democrats conceded control of Congress. I honestly think that Gingrich is one of the smartest men in politics today on either side of the aisle. That said I also realize he can be a very opportunistic politician when he wants. At times, it seems like he blows in the wind, not necessarily changing his opinion, but voicing the concerns of people to a greater degree depending on popularity. As an example when the country was terribly torn on the issue of immigration that was at the top of his personal ticket. When Iraq is the hot topic that is what we mainly hear from him and so forth. Now is that being opportunistic or keeping your finger on the pulse of the people? I guess that depends on your level of political cynicism. Nevertheless, what he has to say, in my o
After a lot of Gingrich rumblings yesterday and the day before, today Newt announces that he is "unlikely" to run and that no Republican is likely to defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election. More interestingly, he predicts a badly fragmented Republican party after February 5's Mother Of All Primary Elections and hints at the possibility of a brokered Republican convention. I disagree with that prediction; Republican primaries are not like Democratic ones, and the plurality candidate will get a large majority of the delegates in most of those states -- and there will be only one or two plurality candidates in most of them because of money, machinery, and charisma issues with most of the field. The way things look now, that means Giuliani and Thompson. Now, it's possible that, based on the way things look now, Thompson and Giuliani would emerge with about equal numbers of delegates and neither in a position of clear superiority over the other. But in the process, they would e
I ran across this late tonight and it is if the author was reading my mind. I have had the exact same thoughts lately but had not been quite able to put them to words yet. I had been hoping that Fred Thompson would get into the race to liven it up. I can not stand the idea of Rudy Giuliani being a frontrunner. And to be perfectly honest I have always had a lot of respect for Newt Gingrich in spite of, as the author also said, his personal baggage. Newt Gingrich is definitely a man of big ideas. Now as to them being realistic ideas, well, that is perhaps another story. But the one thing they will be is exciting. And so far the rest of the GOP pack just isnt. ~RJH Advertiser Tribune article link Gingrich, Thompson may help enliven GOP field Fred Thompson finally has graced the GOP presidential field with his officially announced presence, and he no doubt will stir up the 2008 yes, the election really is 14 months away contest.Thompsons presence and celebrity already place him
In the past week, there have been a few more indications from Newt Gingrich that he is considering getting into the race. In the conservative-friendly forum of the Washington Times, Gingrich indicates that if he can raise about $30 million and can campaign "based on ideas rather than 30-second sound bites," he will get in to the race. Since he can campaign in any way he likes, this really means he'll get in if he thinks he can raise enough money to be a contender.I suspect that the money would be available, although it's getting sufficiently late in the game that much of the machinery to raise support and use that money effectively is already gone. In any other election cycle, things would just be getting started in mid-September and Gingrich would be in good shape trying to build his machine, but this isn't any other election cycle. Thompson has had enough trouble assembling his campaign over the past six months; why should we believe Gingrich could do any better? My take on the

It seems like more and more people are lining up behind Newt Gingrich. If he were to win the Presidency the 'Newt Derangement Syndrome' we would see from the left would be incredibly entertaining. But now I have to wonder if any conservative President can be elected without the left hating him/her as much as they do Bush? ~RJH Union Leader article link Points well made: More to come from Gingrich?Speaking at the National Press Club last week, Newt Gingrich made an excellent point about the lack of clamor or public condemnation by Muslims, anywhere, of the latest acts of barbarism practiced by extremist followers of their religion. In this case, it was the Taliban's capture of Christian missionaries from South Korea. As of this writing, they were still being held hostage, though one or two of their number had already been murdered. This is by far not the first instance where the outrageous acts of Muslim extremists are met with little or no response from their coreligionists. Dick Morris article link Newt Gingrich's time to jump into the Presidential race could come this fall Published on FoxNews.com on August 10, 2007.All along he has said that his game plan was to wait until the fall of 2007 and then jump into the presidential race. Now, it seems, his game plan may have made sense after all. Newt Gingrich never explained why he wanted to wait until after all the other candidates had jumped into the race to make his own decision, but we can infer that it was likely because he realized how much political and personal baggage he would carry into the race were he to run. To subject himself to the slings and arrows of his rivals would have been a daunting challenge six months ago. Newt had to wait for the other Great Right Hopes to rise and stall, if not actually fall, for him to get into the contest. He would have had trouble handling the barbs of health rivals. But with all his opponents for the designation to oppose Giuliani battered and bleeding dead a
Newt Gingrich shook up the world in 94 by almost single handedly wresting control of the Congress from the Democrats who had maintained a death grip on it for over 40 years. Newt played a significant role if forming the Contract with America that sparked the imagination and hope of a country the likes of which have not been seen in at least a generation. Nobody will argue that Newt will not bring significant baggage to the table anytime he gets involved in politics. He is one of those people, much like Hillary Clinton that you either love or hate. I am in the former category and have been an admirer of Newt Gingrich for many years. Nevertheless, have no doubts that were Newt to win the White House the hate that the left has for Bush would pale in comparison. Instead of Bush Derangement Syndrome it would be total Newt Derangement Syndrome (remember where you heard it first folks!). Having heard what former colleagues and staffers have to say about Newt I couldnt predict how successf
Newt Gingrich, ignoring all his idiosyncrasies, is right as usual. The 2008 Presidential Election is too long, too expensive and verges on “insane.” This fact was clearly demonstrated this week when less than 1 million people watched the Democratic Debate on MSNBC. I think more people will vote for Elvis as a Write-in Candidate. This phenomenon of Presidential Candidates starting excessively early, and relying on uninformed “consultants,” is terrible for our political process. Procedurally, Candidates are reduced to thirty-second answers to prevent what happened to Senator Barack Obama last week. Moreover, these sound-bites are not sufficient to educate the public and so there is perpetual political ignorance.Gingrich was very candid about Obama’s statements. Barack Obama declared that he would dispatch U.S. troops to Pakistan to attack al Qaeda if Pakistani authorities fail to get them. Newt spoke with intellectual honesty rarely seen by someone so partisan: “Obama s
A recent story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution reminded me of a brief interview I saw with Newt a day ago. There are important messages here from Gingrich. Pay close attention and read between the lines:
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday the Bush administration is waging a “phony war” on terrorism, warning that the country is losing ground against the kind of Islamic radicals who attacked the country on Sept. 11, 2001.
A more effective approach, said Gingrich, would begin with a national energy strategy aimed at weaning the country from its reliance on imported oil and some of the regimes that petro-dollars support.
“None of you should believe we are winning this war. There is no evidence that we are winning this war,” the ex-Georgian told a group of about 300 students attending a conference for collegiate conservatives.
Gingrich, who led the so-called Republican Revolution that won the GOP control of both houses of Congress in 1994
I would agree with most of what is said here except for one very notable exception:While he is right that the war on terror is phony, and that we should be concentrating more on energy independence, Id be even more impressed if he discussed George Bushs negligence before 9/11 which allowed the attack to occur and how counterproductive it was to invade Iraq. The left never does seem to recall how Bill Clinton spent years boning fat interns and saying no when he was offered custody of Osama bin-Laden time after time. I am certainly not saying that George Bush bears no responsibility but let's be honest here that a lot of people screwed the pooch on this one. Now as far as Newt changing his tune on a number of issues lately, well, I hope it's a true change of heart and not just holding his finger in the political wind. Newt Gingrich is saying pretty much the same thing as me. It seems like a Clinton/Obama ticket is the only thing that makes sense for the Democrats. Hillary is a bad candidate because she is, well, shes disliked even by her own party. But she is going to run no matter what. No matter what it does to the country or her Party. Her ambition will allow her nothing less. Trying to guess at the Republican ticket is nowhere near so easy at this point in time. Now all predictions are made of course with no Deanesque style campaign implosions expected. If that happens then all bets are off. But as of now yes I agree with Newt that the top three are Romney, Giuliani and Thompson. John McCains campaign is dead in the water, it just doesnt know to lie down and die yet. I have always liked Newt Gingrich a lot. He was the primary architect of the Contract With America which helped end 40 years of Democrat control of the Congress. But, and its a big but, Newt Gingrich has a lot of baggage and

From ABC:Gingrich Says There Is a 'Great Possibility' He Will Run for President May 14, 2007 Newt Gingrich for president? It could happen. In an interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," the former Republican speaker of the House said there was a "great possibility" that he would run for president. He will make that decision sometime in the fall. Sawyer noted that previously Gingrich had only said he was "thinking about" a run for president. "You said you'll make a decision at the end of the September,{is it} more likely, less likely this morning? Sawyer asked Gingrich. "I think right now, it is a great possibility," Gingrich said. moreIn the interest of full disclosure allow me to say this; I dislike Newt Gingrich more than any former American politician currently alive. This is from an email list I am on for Newt Gingrich. He makes some very salient points about the election of Nicolas Sarkozy in France. What happened in France can be seen as a real possiblilty to win big for Republicans in spite of the death pall that currently hangs over the Bush administration. What Newt doesn't come right out and say is that George Bush is going to be an albatross around the neck of any Republican that doesn't distance themselves from him in '08. That's a simple fact and anyone that doesn't realize it is in total denial. If George Bush keeps doing the things he is doing and the Republicans let people assume they are one and the same with the Bush administration we will have a Democrat President in '08. Now toss in a Democrat controlled House and Senate...chills and shivers right? Nicolas Sarkozy has planted a huge flag in the ground and it is not the traditional white flag of surrender so often associated with France. It's the flag of freedom and the flag
Newt Gingrich on last week’s “This Week” said that America must arm its student population.
“I would just suggest here that the professor who gave his life to save a class, who himself was a Holocaust survivor, had he been in a position to stop this deranged person, would have saved an awful lot of lives, including his own,” Gingrich said on ABC’s “This Week.”
Gingrich cited an old school shooting incident at the Appalachian School of Law in 2002. Ted Besen, an unarmed spectator at the shooting, tackled the shooter. In the chaos that followed, Besen’s actions were forgotten in the media and the attention turned to two other students who followed Besen with guns in hand.
Gingrich said that this is an example of how concealed gun carriers have stopped killers in the past.

Earlier this week, John Kerry and Newt Gingrich squared off in a debate over global warming. While it ended up being more of a friendly conversation than a heated debate, it was very enlightening, especially as it pertained to Newt.
I'll be honest, I was expecting him to come out with the run of the mill, "we're just not sure it's happening, we need to do more research" line which has been typical of the GOP. But Gingrich made it clear that climate change is happening, and it's an issue we need to be concerned with. He even went so far as to say that we need a "green conservatism":
"I want to suggest that we need a new science- and technology-based, entrepreneurial, market-oriented and locally led environmentalism."
I have long been saying, not as vocally as I perhaps should, that if conservatives continue to let climate change evolve as a Democrat issue, we're going to be left with Democrat solutions. It's high time that someone like Gingrich is saying things like this.
The Associate Press reported this week that Newt Gingrich described bilingual education as being equal to “the language of living in a ghetto.” He also stated (in English) that all election ballots should only be printed in English. The AP included the following comments by Gingrich: "The American people believe English should be the official language of the government... We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto," Gingrich said to cheers from the crowd of more than 100. Does somebody write this crap for Newt? Does Newt read his speeches ahead of time? Did you know that Newt is considering running for President in 2008? Does Newt consider himself to be a serious contender? The AP also reports that: In the past, Gingrich has supported making English the nation's official language. The poll results are unscientific but are significant. 7 out of 10 respondents of the Newsmax poll favored the former speaker. I can't say I blame them. I'm not impressed with the current line-up of moderates running on the Republican ticket.

Remember that whole thing with former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky? And how former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich was leading the charge against him? Well, it turns out Gingrich was having his own affair at the time.
Yup, he was committing adultery just like Clinton, and at the same time. What a fucking hypocrite.
Is this a case of full disclosure before announcing for the Presidency? Before any of the moonbats start in let me remind you that Clinton wasnt impeached for having an affair. He was impeached for LYING about having an affair. I dont know why the left has to be reminded of this every 30 seconds. Not that I would say they have the memory of goldfish, no, I wouldnt say that Back in the early 90s the Republicans were gearing up with the Contract With America to take back control of the House and Senate. The Democrats just chuckled at that as they had near complete control of both houses for more than 40 years. The election of 94 was the equivalent of a heart attack for the left. The unthinkable had happened and the Republicans were in the majority. I remember Newt and a camera crew walking through the Congressional offices and him commenting on having access to offices he had never even seen before. The loss of the House was a real shock and they were in total denial for a l
human muppet imitator newt gingrich, yesterday admitted to having an affair while married to second wife (he's on wife #3 now) and while he was speaker of the house. why do i care? well, remember kiddies, this guy was discussing divorce with his first wife while she was recovering from cancer surgery, so he's a real class act. anywho, i really do not care about newt's personal life or who he's sleeping with (the thought makes me cringe), but the hypocrisy of cheating on his wife at the same time that he's leading the charge against clinton for his affair with the lewinsky is simply delicious. moreover, newt made the confession of his infidelity in an interview with dr. james dobson's conservative christian focus on the family."There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards," gingrich said. why stop with god, newt? you've fallen short of many, many, other standards, too.
It may be almost two years until the next presidential election in the US, but that's exactly why it'd be a good idea for now to point out just why one certain Republican does not make a good candidate, even if he has made some impressive arguments of recent.
Specifically, I'm referring to Newt Gingrich, who in 1998 met with the PLO's now deceased dictator, Yasir Arafat, and, as I recall, shook hands with him. Here's the 1998 report from CNN:
Despite the potential for a cool encounter, the 90-minute meeting went well, Palestinian officials told CNN.
Both Gingrich and Arafat shook hands as they emerged from the Palestinian leader's headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah. Gingrich said he believed Mideast peace was in the interests of both Israelis and Palestinians.Did you see that? Not only did Gingrich shake hands with a cold-blooded terrorist, he also turned to moral equations. Then, at the end of this item:

These stories are obviously a good earner for Associated Press - from whose exit polls they originate - because there are plenty more out there. Two that I haven't yet mentioned: in the Sioux City Journal, an AP story reporting that Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has the support of just 37% of Nebraskans for his presidential dream; and from AP in MSNBC, news that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, from Georgia, excites only 30% of Georgians for his 2008 run (thanks to LKLIII for flagging up this story in the Oval Office 2008 Forum). The story in the Sioux City Journal notes that a majority of New Yorkers now favour a Hillary Clinton presidential bid, and nearly two-thirds of Illinois voters think an Obama run would be swell.Sioux City Journal: Poll not high on Hagel for president
Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the Henry ford Health System's E-Prescribe system is a model for the nation to emulate.Former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich applauded a southeast Michigan effort to save lives and save dollars through collaboration, but said it is just a beginning and called for nationwide reform of the health care system..."You are as close as any region of the country at beginning to be the health system of the future," Gingrich told about 300 conference attendees. He cited regional advances in electronic prescribing and the collaboration among industry, labor, government and the health industry to improve quality and lower costs in the region's health system..."I am very impressed with what you have begun to do," Gingrich said. But achieving widespread systemic change at the rate needed to save American businesses from collapsing from the enormous burden of health care costs is "going to be an enormous challenge."[ more ]The current system of e
So, what's former House Speaker Newt Gingrich been up to in the last few weeks, I hear you ask. (Humour me).Going to New Hampshire to call for the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms to be repealed, for one thing. Associated Press (in the Boston Globe) reveals Gingrich's talent for seeming to be very clever by over-simplifying things. "Just as tax lawyers always succeed in out-thinking the (Internal Revenue Service) because they stay after five and the IRS goes home, the private-sector lawyers will always out-think the (Federal Election Commission) because they stay after five and the FEC goes home," Gingrich said in Manchester at something called "the Nackey Scripps Loeb First Amendment Awards Honors dinner." As we all know, lawyers outsmart the FEC because they're paid lots of money to, and FEC officials probably aren't that well rewarded to stop them.Last weekend, Gingrich appeared on NBC's 'Meet the Press' where he explained that his entry into the Presidential race
WASHINGTON - Newt Gingrich described the Bush administration as dysfunctional and its unpopularity as hazardous to those in the Republican Party.
"The government is not functioning. It's not getting the job done," said the former House speaker, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination. "Republicans need to confront this reality." wow power leveling

Gingrich said in a broadcast interview he believes Bush "means very, very well" but falls short when it comes to putting his goals in place and running the government.
"All you have to do is look at the examples I've given you today where the government simply fails," said Gingrich, citing the administration's handling of the war in Iraq, its immigration policies and response to Hurricane Katrina. wow powerleveling
