Probably my best day in a month, as the portfolio gained over $800. So it is still alive. I got a little bit lucky, as there was some huge option volume on the CENX Dec 10's today.Mark asked for a mulligan the other day, and in a way, I guess I got one. I had bought the FSLR puts with my $1,132, and lost 40% of what I had. I then bought the CENX Dec calls, and on Friday morning the bid was zero. H
We got my father home from the hospital today, looking great at 81 and three weeks from 5-artery bypass My consultation was a bit more equivocal, but I’ve got time to reflect on my options.

I feel fine, but what was thought to be nothing with my dad is actually three blocked arteries. He will be in surgery at some point. Don't know when yet. I'll be leaving tonight or early tomorrow.
First, the bad news. My dad is in the hospital. He didn't go to the office today and called my step mom to tell her he was calling 911, complaining of shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. He feared he was having a heart attack. And that's all I knew for hours. I called the office to get some information and she was about to leave to meet him at the ER. Turns out that he didn't hav
Today was a good day. I taught someone new things that others would have charged for something, as that person said it. Work was nowhere in site so I shared my ideas with others for a good conversation. People began to add their own inputs which leads to the improvement and understanding of a certain subject by some who were confused. Days like this are rare were one can do something to lessen th
We planned to have our photos taken in a studio today but we didn't succeed. It was my sister in law's idea that we should have a portrait,a good one.BUT all four of us only came out of the house when it's already late in the afternoon. To go out late and on a rush hour sounded impossible on the first place but we still went ahead to where we were planning to.Until the shop said it's too late. What a
Today is a good day.I feel thin today, and my ass looks really good in the jeans I am wearing. This rarely happens, so I am savoring the moment. My hair came out good; I got up early and blew it dry, which I almost never have the chance to do. I am rockin' the much sought after "good hair day."I love my husband today. It might have to do with the fact that I got laid last night, LOL. (Sorry Mom.) T
Despite the market finishing relatively flat (DOW down 20), the portfolio had it's best day of the week. It gained about $4,300. For the week, it's just down $300 now.Not bad considering what the market has done (DOW down about 300 for the week).I think the keys to continued success tomorrow are:1. The Senate passing the bailout bill tonight.2. The SEC extending the short banI think they both w
Is very common to have debts, is a daily fact of life. The problem comes when those debts start to grow in a way that you can’t handle them anymore. So try to get your debts on the line, don’t let them take advantage of you.

A small number of things have made today a winner. England, to my happy surprise, beat Croatia 4-1 in probably their best performance for quite some time. This shouldn't have an effect on my life, but it does, I can't lie. To make it better I bet on 8 matches tonight, 5 of which have gone my way and the final 3 are all due to kick off in the next hour, meaning that by the time I wake up tomorrow I

After yesterday's hits to tech indices I assumed a definitive bearish stance, but since reading Richard Lehman's update it may not be so.The index which will should the others higher - particularly as tech hits the ropes - is the Russell 2000. I am looking at the developing handle and so far so good for bulls. The Dow held its 50-day MA, so even in its struggles there is room for a support bounce
The other day was just one of those days that you would like more of. I walked to town for my exercise, did my shopping, stopped into a couple of shops to say hello to the shop owners, share a cup of tea and headed home. A great one hour of walking plus between stores. Then I got busy in the garden for an hour and a half of heavier yard work. You know the kind, cutting back all those things that w

The Editors of the Washington Post come out strongly today in support of turning closed DCPS facilities over to charter schools. In an editorial entitled "Respect for Charter Schools" the newspaper says that the Fenty Administration should just "get over it" in response to their failure to consider charters for former traditional public school buildings. It now looks like the one who cannot get any

The tournament I went to watch this morning was interesting. I ended up being asked to help out as the scorekeeper for the kids' kata divisions and I saw a lot of cute kids. Afterward the grappling competitions were still going on and I watched some hard-fought matches in the gi and no-gi rings. Some things I noticed...It was well-attended. After yesterday's great gain, I was hoping for a little follow through today, but in the end I was just happy to finish the week in the green. The portfolio lost almost $6,300 today, erasing all but $2,100 of yesterdays gain. For the week, the portfolio finished ahead by about $1,300.All three stocks were down today (SFI, AMR, & UAUA). I think the drop in the last two was overdone, but with the DOW

For the second time in three years, there won't be a whole lot of debate about the preseason #1 in college basketball. The Draft withdrawal deadline came and went, and the three players North Carolina risked losing to the NBA--Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, and Danny Green--are all coming back. While the other three Final Four teams will lose a total of seven first rounders (according to NBADraft.n

It’s official! My husband and I had the baking business officially registered with the county. Now we just need to get the legal notice printed in the paper. I’m so excited and I can’t believe this is really happening. Who would of that I’d be a small-business owner? Certainly not me.

As I sit at home in my library I write this. To often, we fail to recognize via our selfish ways that each day we breathe or see the sun or rain that it is a gift. To often we miss out on accepting the beauty of the lives that we live and the bountiful blessings that we have for in our selfish ways, we think only of ourselves.Today I have decided to live each day as my last, as if I have less than

Hello guys, how's your Wednesday morning so far? It is already Wednesday? wow! And actually the last day of the month of April. Tomorrow, is going to be May 1. Accordingly, May 1 is a Labor Day in the Philippines, and probably a holiday again, no work for those labors! woo hoo! But the bad thing there, even if its a holiday there no pay, at all! So, labors there are wishing, I hope there will be no Labor's day at all, since seem its useless. Here in Michigan, particularly, the Labor Day is in the month of September, but my husband could take a weeks off though with pay, and it is more better than in the Philippines. Well, that's is life eh!Anyway, I was changing some new layout on my other blog the other day and just last night, I was making a new blog, this is my 5th one, actually.
The Very Good DayOctober 2006Watercolor on Fabriano cold press, 7 x 10"on hold for exhibitThis was one of the most exciting painting experiences ever. The brush moved almost like automatic writing. I was completely engaged and knew that if I stopped, it would be all over so I didn't stop. I kept right on moving until the painting was finished. Exhausting in a pleasant way, and a thrill. This shows the mulberry stump on the left that came down in a storm earlier this year. In the post about removing that stump, I wrote about the flaming head of poison ivy that would cascade over the stump. Well, here's how it looked. You'll see another version next week. Today has been a great day. It started off pretty good, then for a second it was almost bad, but then it turned around again and has been awesome. Let me explain. This morning I had a meeting with my boss at 9:00 to sign and approve paperwork from my annual review. I left the apartment at 8:30, with plenty of time to spare even with having to park far away. Then I got stopped by freight trains - twice! I pass two train tracks on my way to work and there was a train at both of them this morning! The second time I was the first car in line, so it was an extra long delay. I could have pushed through and risked crossing when the lights were flashing but the posts hadn't come down, but I thought it better not to push my luck like that. And I am glad I didn't. The second train had cars f

Hello guys! How's your Thursday so far? Mine was good. I was kind a slept over late today because my son woke up last night and cried. So I picked him up and rock him to bed. So, I finally have to get up again to put him back to his crib. Oh boy! I thought I would have a good, uninterrupted sleep last night since we put Josh early to bed but I guess not! But anyway, it was still good since I have a good sleep and no need to woke up early in the morning since my son sleeps until later today. Well, the weather is so nice today too. Looks so warm, sunny and fresh. I couldn't wait to look outside and feel it, if its cold or not. As what the weather news said last night, that tomorrow will snow again, I thought it's over eh! Since today is already the first day of Spring! Well, I guess n
Well, back from the DOCNA trial. As it’s after 9pm I’ve been back for a while, and the muscles are starting to stiffen up. But that’s okay, it was a fun day. I do wish I could run Levi and Chase both well at the same trial. Today was Levi’s day. He got [...]
I managed to get the week off work and made plans with my old man to fish our local harbor today. Even though everything seemed right we just couldn't take a trick and the day ended with a quick run back to the boat ramp to beat one of the tropical storms we get. The fishing was slow and even though we caught a few fish they were all very small. Sometimes fishing is like that though and the uncertainty and challenge is what makes it fun. Most anglers have heard the saying a bad day fishing beats a good day at work, but what I want to know is if you stand by this saying or not? Please leave a comment.
I am in a completely fantastic mood today: not only has the weather outside gone from super-snowy to sunny and almost warm, but it’s only 2:00 PM and I’ve already made $174 today, not counting any mainstream paid posts/advertising profits. Holy shit, right? I’m kind of in disbelief… but SO excited. I know this is [...]
I'm not doing so good on my diet, once again. I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I just want bad food most of the time. I guess I am board of the lettuce, turkey, fruit and all other healthy foods that are out there that I'm eating. I want a juicy greasy hamburger from Wendy's or regular ice cream with all the chocolate chips and doughy cookie taste in it, along the sweet chocolate fudge. It could be the weather, we have been having with the sun, then the rain cold days and then the cold wet snow. It could the stress days from work. Working late nights and the long hours are draining me dry. I need a change in my life. To get out of the daily routine. I didn't get out this weekend that I wanted to, I didn't have time. I'm board and I'm putting food as a substitute as a change. I know bett
I should have seen the warning signs. It had seemed listless of late. Yesterday morning I could even smell urine on it. It should have been clear to me that it had stopped caring. But I was too wrapped up in my blog, my sewing, my all important life to notice what should have been obvious. And yesterday, it took the most desperate action of all, it's life. Pixie's purple baby blanket is no more.It was shaping up to be the perfect day. I was at Disneyland brunching with faboo friends on a fifth floor balcony of the Grand Californian Hotel. The sun had come out after weeks of gloom and the group of us were relaxing under an overgrown pergola eating chocolate cherry cake. For the afternoon, children were overfed in Africa, the ozone layer had never been thicker and George W. Bush cou

Ok, so how was I supposed to know that mom’s Valentine’s roses were a “NO”? I simply saw something new in the house and had to investigate. Sure, they were on the top of a tall book case, no problem. Just a little extra hop. And they smelled sooo nice. AND they were in water! [...]
Well, it started out good. Ended crappily. I posted about it on Tip Tail, my dog blog, since it’s dog related more than anything.
I am getting ready for bed but what an awful emotional stressful thing it was, watching a dog get hit by a car. I have to say that I thank the gods for Zoloft. If it wasn’t for the meds I would be a complete, utter wreck. I still am very shaken and miserable, been crying off and on for the better part of the day.
The Zoloft keeps my brain in check. I love the stuff. I don’t know how I functioned with out it. And tonight I’ll take my sleeping meds so I won’t lay in bed and run over the images again and again and again.
I can’t believe I didn’t look away. I remember thinking to myself, look away, look away, but my head didn’t turn. I was stunned and aghast.
I think sleep will help me tonight. I hope so, anyway. Needless to say I didn’t get the Christmas shopping done that I wanted to.

I had junior high band today at work, which is extremely horrible for me because I hate loud noises. But one class had an assistant teacher to direct class, which was nice. Two other classes had a student direct class. Only one class out of four gave me any problems, which is not too shabby. Considering how much the teacher warned me about their behavior, it was quite a surprise for me to have them be so well-behaved. So it was a very good day in the trenches.
Today we celebrate the optional memorial of St. Nicholas, bishop of Myra. Since my name is Nicholas I always get a little psyched about this day. It's good to see a "Nicholas" being honored by the Church, and its super-good to hear my name at Mass! There's a lot of myth mixed in with fact regarding the story of his life, so here's some resources on St. Nick and how he came to be associated with the jolly fat man in the red suit. I woke up at 6 o’clock in the morning to nurse the baby but after that I felt dizzy so I went back to bed after taking some medication. My dear hubby and I went to see my surgeon today and told her about how I felt but she just said I should make another appointment to our family doctor if my colds doesn't go away. I was like, duh...that means, I have to wait for few more days. My colds has been bothering me for days now and that’s probably the reason why I felt dizzy all the time.
Okay, more than that, it’s a great day - payday! Yep, I’m in a good mood and, other than that, there’s not really any point behind this blog post. Keep reading if you would like to share my joy, though….
Today is not only payday, but my largest payday in about five years. In other words, I worked WAY too much in October (I get paid monthly), billing over 500 hours in 31 days! Of course, there’s still some work to do on Rover (my car) in his continual rehab, old debts still need their maintenance payments, and my checking account is in serious need of a cash injection, but the bulk of this check is going to be spent on setting up my Christmas trip for Z and myself. In fact, the sole reason there were no posts here at Philaahzophy yesterday was because I spent the entire day finding, and bookmarking, the various websites where I will be spending my newly found cash. I can’t wait until errands are done so I can start converting my last months la

So...I am by no means someone special, or anyone by whom you should listen to on a regular basis. No, that doesn't mean I wont stop talking, but it will help with the coping process. This blog is spawned from my incessant need to banter about the things I find important, and running out of people willing to listen to me in my immediate reality.Thank god for cyber-space! And the ability to banter into a digital realm of chaos, and actually receive a response from those few pathetic souls who actually give a damn about the same shit as me.Respectfully enough, I am pushing to see what you think about me, and maybe, what I think about you. In the end, due to the inevitability of life, it will all be inconsequential to the final day of our planet, and thus just another futile attempt at unde
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Puerto Rico; the coqui is the small native frog (and unofficial mascot) that is small in statue; but loud in voice. The coqui ranges length ranges between 15mm-80mm in length and be green, brown and yellowish. The frog gets its name from the distinct evening call ‘koo-kee’ of the male coqui. The sound resonates all around the island, as early evening sets. If you have ever been to Puerto Rico, you will have heard the coqui…
The coqui has been a threatened species since 1977 and continuing deforestation and industrial development have destroyed the fogs habitat. The good news for the coqui is that this week the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Tuesday designated rocky stream banks and privately owned land in southeastern Puerto Rico as critical habitat for a threatened species of the coqui.
They have designated 260 acres of land adjacent to farms, roads and homes spanning a southeastern section of the tropical island to help protect the c

The Moon starts off in a Grand Trine with the planet of action, Mars and the planet of communication, Mercury, indicating a window of opportunity this morning to communicate your plan of action. The kink in this would be the New Libra sun making its entrance today. Libra wants to think things over, talk it over, and well, put things off as long as it can. This will cause some friction with the powers that be, who just want to get “right down to it”, so if you find yourself under the calming influence of the Libra Sun, shake it off and get moving!
Fortunately for us, the Pisces moon is in harmonious relationship to the planet of work and responsibility, so we will all do just fine, as long as we keep our nose to the grindstone!
