He added that humanity must embrace space exploration, if only to ensure its long-term survival."While there may be primitive life in our region of the galaxy, there don't seem to be any advanced intelligent beings," said Hawking during a lecture as part of a series commemorating NASA's 50th anniversary this year. The lack of success by the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) project to discover signals from an alien c

When any discipline of knowledge reaches its zenith, it is quite likely to begin to talk of God. This is true, as the foregoing pages make out not only of Whitehead but also of many other scientists, the latest of them being Stephen Hawking, the celebrated author of the best seller, A Brief History of Time. Like Whitehead, he too comes conceptually in the lineage of Einstein. If Whitehead developed the philosophy of process out of Einstein’s theory of relativity, Stephen Hawking evolved his cosmology out of the same theory of relativity. And just as Whitehead struck on the idea of God speculatively while explaining the reality in terms of process, even so Stephen Hawking happened to refer to the idea of God particularly as a matter of protest against the guarded warning of Pope, while tracing the origin of the universe ultimately to the primeval incident known as the Big Bang. In course of attending a conference on cosmology organised by the Jesuits in the Vatican in 1981, and being

A woman known as “the Egyptian Dr. Ruth” is now so popular in the Arab world that she has speaking engagements booked a quarter of a year in advance to talk about sex. She tells her audiences that the Quran encourages more frequent sex, which is a great idea since telling people to do what religious texts say has been improving society pretty much without any hitches for like thousands of years.
Her sex talks have been met with some criticism though, particularly the parts where she says that the Quran also promotes foreplay. In response, religious leaders have claimed to have uncovered an ancient, previously unknown chapter of the Quran all about blowjobs.

Renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking will soon experience a brief history with weightlessness.Hawking, who uses a wheelchair and is almost completely paralysed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, plans to go on a weightless flight on April 26, officials at the Zero Gravity Corporation said.“As someone who has studied gravity and black holes all of my life, I am excited to experience first-hand weightlessness and a zero-gravity environment,” Hawking said in a statement. The zero-gravity is created onboard a modified Boeing 727 which generally soars to 32,000 feet at a sharp angle and then plunges 8,000 feet so passengers can experience 25-second snippets of zero gravity during the descent. As the plane climbs, passengers experience 25 seconds of being pushed down hard, as they feel 1.8 times the normal pull of the Earth. Zero Gravity CEO Peter Diamandis said assistants will be onboard to help Hawking.“The key thing here is that weightlessness and
Stephen Hawking is possibly the greatest
physicist of the last century, and arguably one of the most influential ever.
His list of achievements is enviable, and what makes them even more astounding
is that many of his accomplishments have been achieved whilst he has suffered
from a debilitating form of motor neuron disease. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
(ALS) is a progressive and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease, but despite
enduring this difficulty, he has 184 scientific publications, including a best

this man's scientific achievements, but at some of the cool technologies he
uses to communicate.
I've been trying to read 'The Universe in a Nutshell' this evening. Ok, so it didn't help that half my attention was on CSI, but it does seem to get hard to follow somewhere in chapter 3. I'm not sure if it's me or the book but something things seem very clear and something things seem really hard. I guess that probably means it is me.I think it is the measure of a first rate mind like Hawking that he grasps the subject well enough to explain its complexities in a relatively straightforward way (most of the time), whereas other bright people, but not first rate, can only work within the complexity. It is also interesting to see a scientist plainly state his philosophical position. Hawking states that he is a positivist. Ontology is of no interest to him. Human knowledge is limited to the field of epistemology. He admits that he is distrustful of certain ideas, but then dismisses that distrust as neither here nor there. He has a measure of the use of ideas - not that they describe
