Out of the heart of the midwest, in Bloomington, Illinois comes Backyard Tire Fire. Not only does the name of the band suggest the sound you may hear, but it’s midwest roots also lean towards their DNA, which is excellent alt-country. The debut album from the three piece, Vagabonds and Hooligans is really right up my alley.
I can see the Wilco comparisons, but I tend to think they are more in the Uncle Tupelo mold. Especially when after the great title cut, the band changes lead vocals on track three, “Green Eyed Soul” and makes me feel like it’s a switch from Tweedy to Farrar. High praise for another alt-country rock band out of Illinois, but it’s hard for me not to make the comparison.
The band has already shared the stage with the likes of The Slip, and Jay Bennett, and you can see in the dates below that they will continue to add to that impressive list. BTF will be doing a date here in the Cincy area as well, on April 18th @ The Southgate House.
