The story is in 1995 Steve Spurrier ran up the score against the Georgia Bulldogs 52 to 17 just because he could. He allegedly said “they never had anyone hang half a hundred on them.” In the swamp Saturday night, the Gators hung half a hundred on the Gamecocks with a 56 to [...]
I am really getting old! As I was combing my hair in front of my dresser mirror, I noticed some small stubs of grayish-silver-ish hair sprouting in perfect symmetry on my hairline. How could that happen? I dyed my hair just a few days ago. That should have covered the gray hair, I thought aloud."Mom, you used the cheap-o hair dye and that does not work on gray hair", said one of the daughters."A 3

Two years later, the duo drove the car from the U.S./Mexico border to Vancouver, B.C. - averaging 103.7 miles per gallon and spending less than $15 on the diesel that fueled their drive into the Guinness Book of World Records. Naturally, they thought someone would be interested in the prototype t

Today I have accomplished a great achievement – I’ve finished reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, a novella by the noted Colombian author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who has written other great works including Chronicle of a Death Foretold – which I’ve already read and appreciated, and Love in the Time of Cholera. I found One Hundred Years of Solitude quite a long book,

In political terms the word sweetener is what is added to bills. Unfortunately for one of the most important issues in 2008 and maybe our life, these sweeteners are absolutely sickening. How many other special interest items slipped through and wasted our money.

The old adage, "Victory has a hundred fathers, defeat is an orphan" reveals only half the truth. The fall out from the bailout defeat the other day is proving that, orphan or not, defeat can produce a hundred paternity suits, put forth by individuals trying to distance themselves from the unwanted delivery sitting on their doorstep.Amongst the more ridiculous claims, Peter Baker in the New York Ti

Zimbabwe is suffering from an acute economic crisis. I have to admit that the inner geek in my loves lists. There is something so completely satisfying about a list. It can represent a vast amount of information in a fairly tidy way. I stumbled upon the omnivore's hundred while killing time (and nursing a summer cold) this weekend. Even though I don't usually go in for viral memes, this one just seemed too fun to pass up. So, here's to piling on for a little trivial grooviness. If you

Mmmkay…I’ve seen this floating amongst the blogosphere and I decided to participate. It really is an introspection as well as a meme. I may not want to try the items in the list that I have not already eaten, but then again, I may. Eating is what I love to do. And when something is prepared well and is delicious, well I may not care what it is, I’m indulging. Whatever the case, m
I came across a bit of a game for omnivore’s on Very Good Taste that seems to be working its way around the blogosphere, or at least the food blogosphere. It’s called the Omnivore’s Hundred, and it’s simply a list of 100 items that one may or may not have eaten.
The rules are simple:
1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.

Today I had the pleasure of witnessing a joyous birthday celebration.Held at the inner-city senior center where my wife is the director, the party was held outdoors under a threat of rain that was controlled through Caribbean rituals used to ward off foul weather. Despite low-lying clouds almost bursting with moisture, no rain came. The women preparing the festivities had taken time for ritual, dr
Just number folks... The answer is perhaps as high as a hundred billion dollars. From 1948 to today, nuclear energy research and development exceeded $70 billion, whereas research and development for renewables was about $10 billion. From 2002 to 2007, fossil fuels received almost $14 billion in electricity-related tax subsides, whereas renewables received under $3 billion. &nb

I love this place.
Once upon a time, I went to a tiny little church in South Australia near the ocean. It was on a side street I never would have happened upon had I not known about it. A mammoth cat and two llamas greeted my arrival. Inside, I was served some amazing local food and it rocked my world a bit. It tasted fresh, delicious, complex and thoughtful, and that was only breakfast. So

The Antec Nine Hundred "gamer case" has just gotten a new sibling: the Twelve Hundred. Both enclosures share a similar design, featuring lots of expansion capacity, ample cooling options (via large LED fans), a case window, and little gadgets to keep enthusiasts happy. Was this speaker stark raving mad? One hundred goals? He thought I could come up with 100 goals for my life? The speaker, Mark Victor Hansen, compiled the hugely successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books with Co-Author Jack Canfield. He challenged the assembled throng at the Women's Business Conference to brainstorm 100 life goals.Further, he encouraged us to work with a partner with whom we would swap lists. Together we would encourage each other to develop our list. We would hold each other accountable. We would help each other eventually reach these 100 life goals.Seeing that he was where he was, and I was where I was, I decided to take his advice! How many best sellers does Mark Victor Hansen have anyway? Exactly my point! He was a best selling writer, highly paid motivationa

CHICAGO – At the base of its premise as a documentary, “Young@Heart” seems like a can’t-miss proposition. Take a senior-citizen choral group and have them sing rock ‘n’ roll. But what really emerges is an essence and poignancy that goes beyond the black and white of just singing the rock songs. As the “Grateful Dead” once sang: “In every silver lining there is a touch of grey.”

John McCain, the Republican candidate for president who dubiously claims the status of war hero because he was imprisoned and beaten after bombing civilian targets in North Vietnam 40 years ago, apparently wants other young men to have the chance to become war heroes.
He continues to be dogged by a remark he made in January during the New Hampshire primary. At a town meeting a man asked McCain what he thought of President Bush’s statement that U.S. forces could be in Iraq for 50 years.
“Maybe 100!” McCain said. “We’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. It’s fine with me — I hope it’d be fine with yo
