Hi,New Colorway Karen sent around an email today: "I was just looking at the Jimmy Beans Wool website (my favorite online yarn shop). They have their own limited edition colorways of Lornas Laces Yarns: the new colorway is called Roadside Gerry, after Annie Modesitt's husband Gerry." This is part of a new special collection called Color Commentary. Others featured in the collection include Frankli
I list Short-Sales. As I type this, I can sense the shivers of dread running down your spine and, you're right, they are time-consuming, frustrating and downright grueling to get closed. The trial of lender negotiations and our role as the sole person between the seller and potential foreclosure is not the purpose of this post.
I want to share two quick stories that I call Life Lessons

Yesterday afternoon T. and I snuck in a quick trip to the grocery store before we picked L. up from school. During final exams week, our house not only falls into a state of messiness and clutter (who can clean when you're knee-deep in grading?), but we tend to run out of necessities like food. While we were trying to find some bakery bread for L.'s lunch, T. spied a gingerbread house making kit.
Agence France Presse and the Associated Press are reporting that Belgian authorities have arrested 14 suspected Al Qaeda terrorists including a jihadi who was allegedly planning a suicide attack. Sixteen raids were executed by 242 police officers in Brussels and in the eastern city of Liege. Security and judicial sources described the arrests as the “most important anti-terrorism operation i
If only for one game, the San Diego Chargers showed how it is supposed to look. The running game set the tempo, the defense forced turnovers, and the team made just enough big plays to turn the game into a laugher. Here’s a look at 10 things we learned from this long overdue performance.
Earlier this week I encountered some slippery roads which caused the anti-lock brakes on my car to kick in during a sudden stop. When I first felt the car sliding my temptation was to pump the brakes because that's what I was taught to do when I learned how to drive. But before I even had a chance to pump the brakes I heard the familiar grinding sound of the anti-lock brakes and realized that the

I don't have a long standing relationship with turkeys. I've dated a few in my life..but those are stories for another day. So when I think of Thanksgiving, I'm suddenly 9 years old again. My mother is busy in the kitchen cooking all the family favorites, there's a fire in the fireplace, friends of the family are there, and life is good. After dinner, there's ambrosia and fresh made coconut cake f

One of my hobbies/jobs is to spend a great amount of time on the internet. I answer many emails each day and I work updating our webpages. I have probably seen hundreds of videos from mission trips, churches and ministries but I have found one video that has opened my eyes to how low our society has fallen. There are almost 4,000 abortions each day in the U.S alone. Thousands of parents each y
I’m a huge fan of college football. I keep up with the University of Texas Longhorns and a hand full of other teams. I read all of their articles and I am on the message boards. I even keep up with the recruiting through out the year.

Hey there. I received this in my inbox today and I started twitching. lol Brought me back to the days when I was a lad. I'm sure I'm not the only one. For those of you that don't read or speak Spanish, I left a very "loose" translation underneath. For those of you that do speak and understand, I'm sure you've heard more than one of these phrases from your mother. Enjoy. The Great things moth
Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend an overnight workshop which involved working with horses. Let me be clear, this was not a horse training or riding class, but rather a personal development workshop that incorporated horses into the process as co-facilitators.
What I ended up learning was not only a lot about myself, [...]
Yesterday I slept approximately 18 hours in a 24 hour period...I was aching all over..I had the chills..I felt pain everywhere and throughout my body...I thought I had a severe flu bug and I probably did.
Sunday I was treated to a full spa day..which included a total body massage..luxurious...enjoyable until I got sick.
The masseuse warned me to drink plenty of water..wouldn't you know it...

Well, it's been two years now since I first walked in the doors of Foster BJJ. Last year, for my first anniversary of BJJ, I posted the things I Wish I'd Known When I Started. For year number two, I thought I'd go over a few things I've learned over the last year.First, community is important. I've learned over the last year that it's important, at least to me, to give back as I can to the BJJ com

I just learned that Barack Obama and former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman were in the same class at Harvard Law; they have a longstanding relationship and know each other well. I would be interested to see an interview with Ken Mehlman on his experiences with and impression of the young Obama at Harvard, yet Mehlman has been strangely silent about this "longstanding relationship" according to the WSJ.
I've been on Twitter for several months now, and as my list of followers keeps growing, I occasionally get asked "How do you get so many followers?" It's a bit hard to explain in 140 characters (the limit on Twitter), so I kept saying I'd write a post about it some day... Now that I've got an Active Rain account, I figured I'd make my experience with Twitter my inaugural post.

So, it has been for freaking EVER. It's been election time. And now it's election day. And now we wait all day and night to have these votes counted. It's incredibly exhausting for me, to say nothing of those who have to cover this stuff in the news ad nauseam. Have you ever been so blind-sided by a friend's comments or behavior toward you that you find it hard to just "let it go"? I have, a few times actually. And being the Virgo that I am I mull things over and over and then, just for good measure, I mull it once again. I think that drives Babe crazy because he's only like that about business and money stuff, whereas 'people' seem easy for
1. The depth of my own ignorance. To sound blatantly cliche-ish, the more I read, the more I realize how much I haven't read. The more I know, the more I realize how much I don't know, and how much I will never know. I can echo Will Durant when he says, "Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance." And I can see why the preacher warned, "the writing of many books is endless, and esc
The very first Fashion Week in San Diego, touted as "The world's only Bi-National Fashion Week" came and went like a blink of the eye. That's because Fashion Week San Diego wasn't actually a whole week! It turned into a four-day event - some might call it a nightmare while others might say it was OK for a first-time event. Whatever it was, there's so much to learn from Fashion Week San Diego from

We have yet to see the full effects of the crisis on the real economy, main street. We are past speaking about recession, too many are speaking about “DEPRESSION”. Why should that surprise us when banks are failing. Too many people think this will be over in 1 year. All one has to do is look at Japan. Japan’s banking crisis, for example, proved to be much worse than expected partly because t

That past couples of weeks required considerable restraint on my part. Everyday brought with it what seemed to be endless opportunities to buy low and sell high. I realize that in this life I am not only teaching David, but I'm also learning. Some of the lessons are fairly cut-and-dry. Others are hard to swallow, and take a little longer for me to wrap my head around.
