      High times for low morals
With job losses on a daily basis across Britain, one area of revenue that is immune to the recession is fraud, according to computer security company Symantec. While it is hardly surprising that such a company would want to highlight the problem of computer-related fraud, the figures make alarming reading.Much of the estimated £3.35bn earned between June 2007 to June 2008 was obtained through phis

Senator Barack Obama's Power vs. Black People's Lack of Morals and Values
This is the time for black people to cleanse there souls more than ever and not be hypocrites in the church, whether you are in the pulpit or the pews. Senator Barack Obama will no doubt do his job, but if the black community continues to lack morals and values, they cannot blame him. a matter of morals, not morales: respect Bolivia’s democracy!
Yet again, the United States appears to be siding with violent right-wing elements to undermine a Latin American democracy. By Olivia Burlingame Goumbri, on Alternet As an American and an expert on US-Venezuela relations, the events unfolding in Bolivia are simply too familiar to escape my notice. The tactics used by opponents of President Chavez during Venezuela’s [...]

      Metaphysics of Morals
A professor was explaining the Metaphysics of Morals : "In order for something to be an object of our practical existence, it must be capable of moving us to try to bring it into existence. For example, if I desire shelter from rain, the concept of a lean-to is capable of moving me to cut branches, tie them together, and set them at an angle to the ground."Someone from the back of the class added

Which morals are most useful for personal finance?
There are, as far as I know, two sets of morals which have dominated thought for the past century. Postmodernistic interpersonal value acceptance. Basically, the widely spread “I’m okay, you’re okay” approach to interpersonal acceptance. Followers believe that it is impossible to establish an optimal best set of ethics. Moral behavior then becomes a question of [...]

Sale Pages and Gurus and Marketing Morals
Recently there is a lot of talk about gurus and the way they market by means of super long sales pages. A lot of ideas have been going around about these sales pages. For example SCAM ALERT! Not a lot of people trust them. Is it because the people that know about marketing are marketers and know the benefits of a sales page? From an end user that does not know any better they may not think that. I have several digital products and I promote by means of a sales letter method. Mine are not super long but it gets the idea straight to the point for the end user. There are also arguments that the gurus are all associated with sales pages, yet I am not one of them. There are assumptions these sales pages are all about deceptive marketing, which I do not think so. The reason I bring this up is be

Is "Reaper" Teaching Us Good Morals?
On the CW's show, "Reaper," there is a lot of sin going on. Lying, cheating, violence, goofing off at work. The Devil seems to encourage things like gossip and lust. Even the hero's would-be girlfriend is well-versed in defrauding her place of employment, not through stealing money, but through wasting time and pretending to get things done. So doesn't this show teach us that it's good to be bad?I don't think so. More and more, our hero seems to be discovering that solid morals are better in the end. He's even refuted the Devil's support of various sins on more than one occasion.Part of what makes the show interesting in this regard is that Sam keeps getting pressured to do bad things. Sin is said to be highly attractive. His father bought him a new car, and asked him to lie to his mother. In the end, the car was totaled, and he told his mother the truth. Live and learn? I think so. I guess this means that the show will entertain with the Devil gags, but also teach h

      Atheists Have No Morals
I can follow some religious fundamentalists that claim that atheists have no morals. But only with some interpretation, and only some of the way. Most movements, including Christianity, define themselves according to “positive” and “negative” comparisons. A positive definition is when the movement makes statements about who its followers are, what they believe in, and what their opinions are. A negative definition is when the movement makes statements about what it isn’t; for example, Christians will readily state in which areas their religion differs from Islam, and the various Christian groups will gladly explain how they differ from other Christian groups. A positive definition is the religion’s “what we are” statement, and a negative definition is the religion’s “what we are not” statement. Both are valid descriptions helping define the movement, and both are moral statements of what one believes in and what one does

Punish the poor for your morals
Chris Dillow, of Stumbling and Mumbling, explains how making the purchase of sex illegal damages prostitutes (especially the poorest). Making the purchase of sex illegal would lower demand, which would lower the price of sex. The poorest prostitutes would be least able to switch to an alternative occupation with similar pay and would be targeted more by the new law, and would therefore earn less. Labour ministers would damage the very people they are trying to protect. On top of the utility of prostitutes, there is an obvious rights-based argument for not making the purchase of sex illegal. Purchasing sex is like purchasing any service, and should be based on a free contract between prostitute and customer. The state should not intervene simply because the electorate find selling sex morally wrong (as opposed to selling violence, another physical act).Making the purchase of sex will only further infringe the freedom of the individual to sell their labour and it will make prostitutes wor

Human Telegony: philosophy of morals, hypothesis or what?
“Who was my first?” It was the only question that popped up in my mind and made me smile after I found out one interesting thing.Being quite curious about sexuality issues, I like to read and learn more. And here’s what I consider shocking and absolutely unexpected to found out.Who ever would have thought that there is a possibility that one of a woman’s sexual partners, especially the first one making her “no longer a virgin”, may become genetic father of her kids, even if years later she gives birth to a child from another man?The phenomenon I’m talking about was called Telegony. It was discovered in the first quarter of the 19th century, known to occur among both animals (dog-breeders and breeders accept it as fact) and humans (they say there are some examples in history, but I revealed nothing proved), and not explained from the perspectives of classical genetics. The point of telegony is that the female’s body absorbs many substances, hormones and sperm of a man who

A platter of morals for anyone..?
Morals on a platter, if only it was that easy. The above quote reminded me of my neighbors who recently moved out. They left the place trashed, trash all over the floor, and just icky. I wonder if the ants are having a field day in there, actually scratch that, I don't even want to know! Even though they were being evicted, I don't see that they had any right to leave the place like this, what kind of example are they setting for their kids doing that sort of thing. Not my problem I guess. Then again, is that the right mentality to have..It's not my problem mentality. Is the problem with humanity today is that they live by that, has it become a golden rule? I must remember not to eat my wheaties before blogging..it may be hazardous to my thinking..

Morals do not conquer all in decision making
This is the Yin-yang symbol or Taijitu, with black representing yin and white representing yang. It is a symbol that reflects the inescapably intertwined duality of all things in nature, a common theme in Taoism. No quality is independent of its opposite, nor so pure that it does not contain its opposite in a diminished form: these concepts are depicted by the vague division between black and white, the flowing boundary between the two, and the smaller circles within the large regions. Yin and yang, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaIs morally-motivated choice different from other kinds of decision making? Previous research has implied that the answer is yes, suggesting that certain sacred or protected values are resistant to real world tradeoffs. In fact, proposed tradeoffs between the sacred and the secular lead to moral outrage and an outright refusal to consider costs and benefits (e.g."You can't put a price on a human life").Previous theory in moral decision making suggested th
