In what can only be described as a shocking turn of events the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the Navy over eco-zealots in vacating a lower courts order to stop using high powered sonar off the coast of California. The US District judge that put the original order in place said the Navy’s practice of using the high power sonar blasts would put over 30 endangered species at risk. My first contact with political discussion forums and blogs happened sometime around 2001. I'm not positive on the date as it happened very gradually as I was transitioning from doing Usenet newsgroups before that. But there was two sites ran across early on and I have continued reading and posting at them ever since. The two are Democratic Underground and Right Wing News. Regular readers will recognize the name Democratic Underground as they are a regular target for me. One thing in particular I have seen at DU (as Democratic Underground is often called) rather often is a story telling of some concocted event or events and passed off as real. Usually it consists of some contact between the DU member and a conservative (who they usually call Freepers after members of a conservative forum called Free Republic) and the conservative is almost universally some dumb hick religious fanatic dumb and smug in their support of President Bush. I am still of the opinion that Coulters use of that "joke" was not a spur of the moment throwaway line but was very much planned ahead of time to achieve the exact effect that it did. They have repeatedly removed her videos as being "inappropriate" and even claimed she removed them herself which was later shown to be a lie. At about this same time I had a YouTube account happily collecting political videos and building a nice collection. One video I had was of a tank in Baghdad firing on an insurgent sniper. They pulled that video and sent me a stern warning about posting inappropriate content. Ok fine, even though it wasn't graphic at all as it just showed a tank shell exploding where an insurgent was standing. No blood no guts nothing, just an explosion. Yet they did nothing to remove a number of videos taken by insurgents showing the grisly violent deaths of American soldiers. Well, thats more or less to be expected from the left.
