In a town packed with fabulous restaurants, Marbella also boasts another string to its bow with the amazing Love to Eat Gourmet shop situated opposite the Marbella Club on the Golden Mile.
This is a take away with a huge difference. The sumptuous dishes are prepared by a professional chef, and you would struggle to find a restaurant which serves such high quality food.
This gourmet outlet also provides an excellent catering service, and provides full menus for dinner parties, casual gatherings and even hampers for picnics or a day out on the boat. (Even hotel guests across the road have chosen Love to Eat in stead of room service while on their holidays in Marbella).
The first time I stumbled across the Love to Eat outlet, I was truly amazed by the fantastic range of dishes available – all displayed in a chilled glass cabinet – giving you plenty of opportunity to take your time to browse before deciding.
Having sampled many of the delicious dishes offered here, I can honestly say
There is no better pastime in my opinion than spending an afternoon in Marbella, meandering around the streets and sampling the fabulous array of different tapas on offer.
For many tapas provide the perfect lunch, and the choice of flavours and the freshness of the ingredients is amazing.
As aficionados of the traditional ´tapas tour´ we normally start in the Old Town at the Plaza de Los Naranjos and work our way down to the coast. To begin with you can´t beat a glass of cold fino, some plump olives and Serrano ham to get the tastebuds going.
We would then walk through the cobbled streets down to the Avenida Ricardo Soriano and sample the superb Patatas Bravas and Boquerones al Vinagre in one of the many busy Spanish eateries along the way.

If you are travelling into Marbella and don’t want to hire a car, the public transport links here are pretty good with a reliable and extensive bus services. There is a new high speed train service currently under construction which will be based under the new runway at Malaga Airport and run from there along the Costa del Sol as far as Estepona, but estimated completion of this is currently in 2009. So until then hiring a car, taxis or the bus services are your only option.

Having lived on this fabulous coast for 13 years, I have tried and tested the food in many chiringuitos – and my favourite is still ´Los Cano´ on the beach at El Rosario/Las Chapas.
The same owner has run this restaurant for many years and the food is fresh, plentiful and consistently good. The service is also friendly and efficient and this is the perfect place to while away an afternoon or evening overlooking the Mediterranean.
Many of the excellent dishes on the menu are offered as a full or half portion – an excellent idea if you like to share and try several different fish or meat choices between you.
We ordered a bottle of dry white wine to be going on with while we browsed the menu – there is nothing quite like sitting by the beach, enjoying the view, relaxing with a glass of chilled vino in hand whilst deciding what to eat. Days like this really do make me feel blessed to live on the Costa del Sol.

When I first visited this picturesque Marina in 1985, it really was an oasis of peace and calm, and sitting at the water´s edge surrounded by the woods reminded me of a tropical paradise – virtually undiscovered and untouched by commercialism. On leaving the A7 road West bound about 2 kilometres from Calahonda, the road into the port winds down passing lush gardens and cobbled squares to the impressive Marina area. With over 100 luxury cruisers and pleasure boats moored here, this is a fabulous place to wander round and see how the other half live. Serves 5.Prunes with capers? Not the most appetizing combination if one stops to think about it. However, when cooked together with chicken they create a delectable sweet and sour, savory flavor. The original recipe calls for the chicken pieces to be marinated all night. We found that marinating for 5 hours worked fine. Ingredients:2 chickens, 2 1/2 lbs each, quartered1/2 head of garlic, peeled and finely puréed2 Tbsp dried oreganoCoarse salt and freshly ground pepper to taste1/4 cup red wine vinegar1/4 cup olive oil1/2 cup pitted prunes1/4 cup pitted Spanish green olives1/4 cup capers with a bit of juice3 bay leaves1/2 cup brown sugar1/2 cup white wine2 Tbsp fresh Italian parsley or cilantro, finely choppedMethod:In a large bowl combine garlic, oregano, salt and pepper to taste, vinegar, olive oil, prunes olives, capers with caper juice, and bay leaves. In a town packed with fabulous restaurants, Pasta Da Bruno really is a jewel in Marbella´s crown.

Open from the morning, croissants, pastries, coffee and a fabulous range of juices and breakfasts are offered. Pasta Da Bruno can be enjoyed at any time of the day but we particularly enjoy a lunch or early dinner here after a hard day´s shopping.

Marbella is one if not the most famous towns in Spain, For over 50 years it has been a popular holiday destination for people from around the world. However it was not always a bustling town with hotels and restaurants and it has also had its fair share of turbulent times
There has been settlements in Marbella since the Paleolithic and Neolithic times and archaeological excavations have found remains from Phoenician, and Carthaginensian settlements in the Rio Verde area of the town.
The Romans also settled in the town, calling Marbella Salduba. The Marbella we know today really started to form during the Islamic rule and it is from the Islamic name Marbil-la from where the town gets its modern name. The Muslims built an impressive castle which was surrounded by high walls. The muslim rule was ended in 1485 when the Spanish took control of Marbella and over the centuries the small town began to grow.
In the 1940’s Marbella was just a small village with a population of around 900.
