Sometimes I can tell a product is going to be great even before I get it. Looking at the site, reading about the company you can just tell. Such was the case with my newest find for customizable jewelry--namely bracelets and necklaces--Pickled Tink. CBK readers know the English teacher in me can't resist a good pun. But I promise Pickled Tink is more than just a cute name. Created by a crafty mom,
I think I am in love with the mini-laundry set at this store, especially since F loves to wash things in the sink, but I think I will wait on that until summer since that is very much an “on-the-porch-please” activity. Meanwhile the mini-veggie scrubber will help keep children busy helping while I make [...]
It’s only 13 days until Christmas… And I have all my shopping yet to do!
We decorated our tree early last week, and we did our tradition of having eggnog while trimming the tree. Before, we had done a simple but good eggnog that I talked about last year.. This year, I tried one I’d seen Alton Brown do, and I think we’ve got a new favorite eggnog!

Image by i heart him via FlickrEver since Sylar learned he was part of the Petrelli family, he became my favorite character on Heroes. Maybe its something about women loving bad boys becoming good, the best example of that being Sawyer on Lost. Sylar is a much more extreme example, but I find it adorable to watch him taking care of his family. Knowing the way things change on Heroes, the lovable S
I was Stumbling through kid's sites today and came across Starfall. They have a section of their site dedicated to "Let's Get Ready to Read" where they focus on the alphabet and each letter individually. Now, I know Ben is a little young and I have no expectations that he will be reading anytime soon, but he absolutely loved watching the animations for each letter and was following along with th
Just had to share Gracie's new favorite video with all of you! It's a dog toy symphony. And you know how much we love symphonies, being named after composers and all. Enjoy!
Well apparently Charlize Theron is my new favorite person. Want to know why? She hates MTV’s The Hills! Yeah!
She also cusses out the reporter interviewing her. Now I’ve never actually seen her do an interview before, but this behavior can’t be normal can it? Insulting the interviewer and insulting the network’s best show? Whatever, I like her more now.

Every year, 30,000 sci-fi fans come to my town and parade down the main street dressed as their favorite fantasy world characters. In years past, without realizing what weekend it was, I have found myself downtown after dark surrounded by characters from Star Wars, Star Trek, Japanese anime, various video games, comic books and vampire series. This year, we purposefully met up with friends and took
My very own office/workroom.I'm super excited about this--I haven't had a whole room just for myself since we got married. (Okay, so technically I get the whole house. But you know what I mean.) This room was already my favorite one--all the windows!--but up until now it's had a person living in it; first my BIL, then my sisters-in-law. But now it's my space. Woot! I'm so excited about being able
This is where I spent last Saturday. For my birthday and anniversary, Barak and I got away for a night and day to Heber Springs. I learned that I love to fish. I learned to tie a "leader" and I caught ZERO fish. I fed them a lot of powerbait, but the current was making it almost impossible to catch anything. Bummer. I also got a nice sunburn because I forgot to put on my sunscreen. You don't real
If you like MXC or laughing at people getting hurt, you’ll love ABC’s new show Wipeout.

I'm trying out Blogger's new (finally) "future-posting" feature today. It's May 5 and I'm posting for May 6. I'd like to say that, because it's my birthday, I'm taking the day off and won't be able to post, but actually I'm presenting at a conference and will be there very early and that's why I'm future-posting. I expect to be done with everything (selling my e-course as a CD at the conference -- something new!) by mid-afternoon and then I can have some birthday time. Which will probably include taking my computer to the repair shop because it seems on the verge of a complete breakdown. So while I'm off doing whatever, enjoy this video that incorporates all the elements of a successful presentation. There are stories, examples, demonstrations, good organization, a strong opening and closin

Here's a good one. Hearing officers beware. In DB by CB v. Houston Independent School Dist 48 IDELR 246 (D. Texas 9/28/7), the parents argued on appeal that they were deprived of a fair and impartial hearing because the hearing officer slept through the hearing. The District Court rejected the argument, noting that the hearing transcript showed that the HO asked questions of witnesses and resolved evidentiary objections, therefore appearing to be awake. Also the Court noted that the pro se parents had failed to preserve their argument for appeal because they failed to object to the alleged napping on the record during the hearing. Stock up on Mountain Dew or No Dose hearing officers!
When I find something I really like or something that really works I have to share it with whoever will listen. I have been forever looking for the perfect window/mirror cleaner! I mean years, I have tried it all from expensive infomercial cleaners to plain old vinigar and water. I live in a valley here in southern California and we get big Santa Ana winds, Smog, a hill behind my house that blows all the dirt and dust directly on my windows. The summer is filled with pool water being splashed on the windows and french doors. Come Spring the way the light hits the back of our house you see every smudge and smear that is on the windows.I clean my mirrors and they still have streaks. I am always frustrated with streaks and smears. Low and Behold, I stop at Home Depot a few weeks back to pic
I was tipped off about these Emu boots by a hungry PR rep. I decided they looked pretty cute and I wrote about them on ThisNext. Immediately after I hit publish I dashed over to Amazon.com and bought a pair. I guess my own words influenced me.
5 days later the boots (got them in black) were at my door and I haven't taken them off since. I love my Emu boots. They are a bit more stylish than Uggs and they are just as comfortable (if not more). Oh and they are cheaper! If you purchase a pair I recommend going much smaller than your normal shoe size. I am a 7.5 and I purchased a 7 ... I could have easily fit into a 6.
Cameron Diaz has a pair and I think I am going to get another pair in chestnut brown. Yes I know I am a sick girl.

Flying from Cairo to Aswan you get a sense of the size of Egypt, mile after mile of sandy desert interspersed with the odd abandoned building and the occasional siting of the green belt along the Nile River. As far as the eye can see it’s nothing but orange sands and blue sky.
On arrival in Aswan we disembarked the plane for the ludicrously short bus ride to the terminal (seriously its about 100 meters!) which we later realized was a good thing. Why’s that you ask? Heat! Several degrees hotter than Cairo, the dry heat of Upper Egypt is unrelenting, yet bearable due to the absence of humidity. In summer temperatures regularly exceed 50 degrees Celsius, while winter is a more sensible 30 - 35 degrees. For our arrival, Aswan turned on a picture perfect, not a cloud in the sky, 37 degree day. The locals are proud to tell you Aswan only gets about 20 minutes of rain twice a year, sometimes 3 times, and even then it’s only a light shower “like tear drops from the sky&
I had to mention last night’s episode of the CW’s ALIENS IN AMERICA, “Rocket Club.”
I love Aliens in America, I find myself really looking forward to watching it, which is pretty ironic since I didn’t think I would be watching it at all. But Adhir Kalyan, who plays Raja Musharaff, has won me over. He is so funny, I laugh out loud every episode.
Seriously, at some point in “Rocket Club”, Raja starts telling Justin’s mom, Franny (Amy Pietz), this huge lie about their pretend Rocket Club, and he goes on and on and each lie gets worse and worse. Justin finally makes him stops and takes him to the other room and asks him why he said all that. Now, Raja’s response made me laugh so hard I had to pause the show for a while until I came down because I couldn’t follow anymore.
So yeah, I’d recommend you watch it if you want to spend a fun 30 minutes with the Tolchuck Family and their exchange student Raja.

I’m about finished with the book Eat, Pray, Love and am so in love with this book that I have to share. I know most of you have probably read it too considering it is a best seller and all. If you haven’t read it, then I highly recommend it.
It’s an excellent book about letting go of love and finding love. In particular, finding love for yourself. Even if you aren’t a yogi or a romantic, I think you’ll find value in what the author, Elizabeth Gilbert, has to say.

With a party of 14, I always get nervous. Even restaurants that are usually pretty good start to falter when they have to plate for 8 or more at a time. We've been to Maurizio Trattoria Maurizio Trattoriabefore and praised there food so we were hoping they could hold up under the pressure. I watched in amazement as all the appetizers were served at the same time and then all the entrees. Even more impressive for a large party is having all the meats and seafoods cooked to the correct temperatures. Nothing over-done, nothing under, perfect seared tuna, quail, steak, chilean sea bass, fish stew, etc. They make their own fresh pasta which is delicious and have a long list of specials that really changes. It's a place you could really go to often and feel like your eating somewhere new. They also make their own desserts which are very good (except for the creme brulee) and the coffee is good too! The service was good and the prices suit the quality you get, and the portions are a little

Kongregate rocks. Period. And I only joined up for the first time today! This flash game portal has taken many of the best features found on services like Xbox Live and combined them with addicting flash games… and all for free. I love that achievements (nerd cred) are built into select games. This adds a new level to the gameplay and reasons to keep on playing. There’s also a points system where there may be prizes awarded in the future.
The social aspect is cool allowing you to live chat while playing. You can add friends and see when they are online. You can also see your “fans” or people who have added you as a friend. If you want to be a fan of mine, my username is “Boggslash”.

Picked this Magazine up several weeks back and Absolutely "ADORN" it. It is so much fun and has such Great Ideas. The "Eye Candy" will keep your eyes glued. I have a real Magazine Obession as it is. Although my time has been limited due to kids, crafts and overall life, I still Love to read them all. I was doing heavy duty cleaning yesterday and found two "VICTORIA" Mags. from 2002! You would have thought I won the Lottery. I do Love my Magazines.
I paid a visit to the new local yarn store – and it was bliss! In fact I’m slightly concerned that the two women running it actually thought I was a bit of a weird knitting stalker type! I walked in and it’s laid out is such a gorgeous way – lots of cards and ‘pretty’ things at the front of the store, with the yarns displayed in piles and shelves so that all of the different colors and textures can be seen. Kid in a candy store wasn’t in it! There were rows of Noro, Debbie Bliss, RYC, Rowan, Louisa Harding – and lots more that I couldn’t tell you the names of.
One of the lovely ladies who run it came up and asked me if I was ok and if there was anything I needed a hand with and I replied that I was in heaven! She seemed to appreciate it (at least she didn’t back away in fear!) and we had a lovely chat about our favourite designers, yarns and so on. I put my name on their mailing list for the classes that are starting in September (seems a
We know that soccer players have some magical skill that allows them to pull ridiculously hot chicks (see earlier post), but we haven't seen much out of the Mixed Martial Arts guys. I mean when Jenna Jameson is the hottest chick we've seen one of these guys with, it's not good. However, that has all changed now thanks to one of our readers, who just happens to run his own MMA site. It seems that Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski has a girl that should we do a supplemental HW/GiS Tournament once the current one ends for all the hot wives and girlfriends we've since discovered, could be considered a favorite to win.Her name is Patrycja Mikula and she's a 24-year-old Playboy Cyber Girl. Alright, enough talkin', let's go to the pix. That's really why you're here anyway, isn't it?
I paid $7.50 for this dress last week (it was 50% off at the thrift store!) and that's ridiculously high for me, but it was just so fab. It fits almost perfectly, and looks amazing with my super-mod white shades. dress: thriftedgreen tank: thriftedgreen sandals: gap clearance
Kelly Clarkson"Haunted" Louder, louder The voices in my head Whispers taunting All the things you said Faster the days go by and I’m still Stuck in this moment of wanting you here Time In the blink of an eye You held my hand, you held me tight Now you’re gone And I’m still crying Shocked, broken I’m dying inside Where are you? I need you Don’t leave me here on my own Speak to me Be near me I can’t survive unless I know you’re with me Shadows linger Only to my eye I see you, I feel you Don’t leave my side It’s not fair Just when I found my world They took you, they broke you, they tore out your heart I miss you, you hurt me You left with a smile Mistaken, your sadness Was hiding inside Now all that’s left Are the pieces to find The mystery you kept The soul behind a guise Where are you I need you Don’t leave me here on my own Speak to me Be near me I can’t survive unless I know you’re with me Why did you go? All these questions run through my mind I wish I coul
I’ve mentioned Aptana before as a very nice (free) alternative to Dreamweaver if you are primarily a coder like myself. I have been switching back and forth between the two for a while now, undecided on which one is better. On one hand, Dreamweaver has great FTP and site organization with an interface I’m very used to. On the other hand, Aptana is free, cross-platform and is designed more for the web coder than designer. This past week sealed the deal.
I’ve recently started playing with and using Ruby on Rails (it’s great by the way) and I am using Radrails as my editor. Now Radrails isn’t a standalone editor, it is actually a plug-in for Aptana. So with the great extensive Rails support, I can now comfortably leave Dreamweaver behind. But wait, it gets better.
Aside from web development coding, I also do a lot of Java development as well. Wouldn’t it be great to have a single development environment for all 3 languages? Enter Eclipse.

Thanks to my Mom, I have become a chapstick/lip gloss addict. I completely freak when I can't find either one in my purse! I go through a tube of chapstick a week, so it's getting pretty ridiculous. Since we're already on the subject of hot pieces, we recently ran into something else very nice thanks to a site that is fast becoming one of our favorites, The Offside. The Offside pointed us to a site called Who Ate All The Pies. We have no idea why it's named that, it just is. I think it's an English thing. WAATP also covers soccer like The Offside does, but the coolest part of this site, from my perspective, is that they have a feature called WAG of the Week. For those unfamiliar, WAG stands for Wives And Girlfriends of the England Team. It must be some kind of freakin' contest over there to see who has the hottest WAG, because every player seems to have an out-of-this-world honey. It'd be like the Chicago Cubs entire roster having supermodels for wives over here. You know you how we are in the midst of our Hottest Wife/Girlfriend in Sports Project, right? While we were checking out some of the WAG of the Week winners, we ran across one entrant that needs strong, and I mean REAL
Because it cost fifty cents! It's gray wool flannel, it's from the fifties, and it fits. I'm very happy. And the tights? Well, I didn't want the dress to look dowdy (it's a tiny bit big in the bust, so that's a valid concern) so I wanted to pair it with spicy tights. These were spicy alright! Did I mention I've previously only worn these with a long skirt, nearly ankle length, but I STILL get comments? Well, I had random drivers honking at me, someone shouting that I looked "good enough to stop traffic," street passersby commenting, and coffee shop patrons striking up conversations. Loudly. Far from letting all this go to my head, it rather served to remind me that I really should try that whole "exercise" concept before I wear these tights again. vintage dress: thriftedtights: ebayvintage belt: thriftedshoes: dsw

From the Gazette:
Jeff Gordon said use of the term "cheating" was overly simplistic for what went on before the Daytona 500.
