Had it with relentless emetic propaganda pimped by the alleged 'mainstream media'? Haven't we all. Didn't these perennial spoiled brat lefties go all out to fool citizens into surrendering wealth and liberty? During these weeks I have learned a lot about writing copy, picture cropping and using a content management system.Although I consider myself more than competant with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Photoshop Elements (used at Sky, I have been taught some nice tricks involving creating borders. There are many picture sizes and it is important to attach the right ones!I have also learned how to write headlines and keep them short. This is a relatively new skill for me, but one I am now confident with. I am able to keep banner headlines to a certain length. I can also caption pictures and source older material to link.I have used a video camera to film outside shots, and have accompanied a producer and cameraman to a tech

I've been working horribly long hours again so the canvasses are on hold :>( - but I'm mulling over ideas on where to go next with them. So, I thought I'd carry on talking about sketchbooks, this time about using them simply to record interesting things, practice hand eye coordination and mark making, trying out new materials and mixes of media - the equivalent of practising scales on the piano and improvising in jazz all jumbled up together :>DThis first one is just doodling but even so is practice at getting soft colour changes.I've shown these before, the sketches were done during teaching - the gourd is in the still life store, the jar we keep the erasers and sharpener in. Not objects of beauty - but they were in front of me on the desk and posed interesting problems with ellipses and r
New media have invaded the internet and have created buzz in the mass media. Blogs and other social media became platforms where ordinary citizens can freely express their thoughts and could be given privilege to deliver news and other pertinent information for the public. In the event such as the Interfaith Rally held in Ayala, Makati City, bloggers and traditional broadcast media joined together for one purpose — to gather Information. Of course, the broadcast media are the most visible on the scene with their huge OB vans, broadcast stage, field reporters and pool of cameramen patrolling the place and covering every activities. So what is this media hyped all about? Its a rally organized that talked about an anomaly involving our topmost politicians and personalities in the government.
Tourism secretary Ace Durano is hip. Why i said that? very simple. Today's new media popularity paves way to his conclusion or perhaps government decision to tap the contents from the cyberspace. To be specific, the agency had chosen the service of Ms. Christine Gambito to be its ambassador for ti US-based Filipina, a new media practitioner and a celebrity of her own via the social site like YouTube. She gained her popularity over her "Happy Slip" channel which has over 4.5 million views as of this writing, and almost 120,000 subscribers. In fact, for just two years of pro vlogging at youtube, she now ranks in the top 4 of the Most Subscribed (All Time,).So as you can see, Christine via her "Happy Slip" channel becomes a viral in advertising campaign and it was a grab chance for the agency

I know it says at the top of the blog that I'm a sub-editor (copy editor if you like) on a weekly UK magazine, but that's not strictly true. We've had a restructure recently – which is how Apus managed to engineer his departure – and now I'm a sub-editor on two weekly UK magazines (although much more on one than the other).I am also spending an increasing amount of time working on our 'web publication'. Since the restructure each member of the production desk has been given 'championship' of a particular 'brand', and I am 'web Champion'. I even have this written in the first paragraph of my job description. With a capital C, no less. And sorry about all the 'inverted commas', but I don't normally use these buzzwordy phrases. As a result of my increasing involvement with the –ahem– w

These days it appears that all CNN and similar news outlets cover are the presidential primaries. I fell asleep after the California results were announced and woke up to a political commentator talking about the state roughly six hours later. Political advertising is everywhere, except for digital signage - a medium that is ideal for reaching voters (I wrote a recent post on this topic). The candidates have found success in leveraging mobile marketing. It's targeting power and timeliness allows candidates to reach people who have opted into their SMS clubs before key events: debates, TV appearances, and, most importantly, state primaries.A January SMS advertising campaign for Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama delivered over one million SMS impressions acro
Been working out some concepts that have been hitting me and gradually coming together...it is still very rough..I tried a few years ago to map time as intervals and corrolate it directly to a person moving in a space. It was intriguing, but ultimately to the artist and semi-scientist in me it was ultimately a dead end. Why? The measure was ultimately arbitrary as one cannot set something spatially that is a corollate between space, location and time in grid space and real space for the reason that the person will move at different speeds at different times and people move in different cadences and speeds relative to others anyway.So...What if the corrolate is instead a sort of non-euclidain geometry....a spherical topology in a sense of what is experienced in time and space and that can
Apparently a blog by Will Sullivan about how high-tech freelancers are being hired to fill in gaps in media content creation and publishing in the newspaper industry has been causing quite a bit of debate.Sullivan argues that a lack of available talent and a mandate for newspaper publishers and others in the publishing industry to continually pump out new media content has created a need that outsourcing to freelancers fills beautifully. He lists several specific duties a high-tech freelancer can easily and inexpensively fill (ie. flash development, design, and data projects, as well as the many online loci where companies and workers alike can find one another.Whether it's journalism you're in or any other field, the arguments on both sides are compelling and well worth reviewing. Just look at the response generated on one site: The Journalism IconoclastOutsourcing any tasks successfully requires a full understanding not only of the benefits of doing so but the drawbacks and dangers

Adherence to the Status Quo: This is another filter used by the old media that hinders the education of the public. When was the last time that you heard, saw, or read a news report in which a "regular" person was asked to weigh in on the issues of the day? Probably been awhile huh? Recall the old-fashioned "man on the street" interview? Why don't we hear from these people who are, after all, just like us? Do not regular people have something to say? Or is it perhaps that some regular folks might say something that the O.M. doesn't want anyone to hear. This is not a question of paranoia or conspiracy; it is a matter of fact. The very day after 9/11, the Bushists had the gall to tell the American people to go shopping, to go to work, to go right on living life as if nothing terrible had just happened the day before. What did the O.M. do? They carried the message just as though this was the best advice ever.Oh certainly the editorial pages were full of hand-wringing over "why they hate u
It has been a couple of years since the old media was forced to look at the impact that the new media was having on the former's bread and butter. Despite my hopes, there are still those who believe that the papers and the t.v. stations have the market cornered for reliability. This is thanks in part to the way that the old media framed the issue; as a debate pitting old on one side, and new on the other. This either-or mentality is a perfect fit for an industry that is experiencing serious competition for the first time. Naturally, it also makes for a bold headline, but is it true? Of course not! The biggest difference between new media and old is the system of filters used to bring the news to us.To clarify for those of you who are not familiar with the process (thanks Journalism 101!); most major networks and newspapers are not primary news sources. They often have deep resources by way of reporters and editors - though many have made significant cut-backs lately - but it is rel

Listening to the radio or reading the newspapers to be updated with what’s happening to the world is so 10 years ago. Today, internet – the central component of the new media is the musket of the new century. You can access millions of news around the globe in just one sitting.
Business establishments, big and small are starting to realize this. They are opting for online advertising that they are already spending bigger budgets in online marketing in order to increase web visibility. This in effect has made the revenue for newspapers and radio industry more stagnant and crucial. These advertising options have also opened friendly marketing ads for smaller businesses.
The diverse facets of online media include blogging, vlogging, podcasting and SEO. Amongst all the things that can be seen in the internet, these 3 have been the strongest ad avenue for businesses. Blogging and Vlogging have its audiences by leaps and bounds especially if the blogger is well-known. As far as costing

The New Media Nouveaux Conference has been a magnificent catalyst for conversation.Geoff Livingston gave an insightful introduction to new media - citing case studies from his upcoming book, Now Is Gone.
He started by mentioning the impact that social media has on today’s society. Being in the Northern Virginia area, the audience is intimately aware of the change that viral video had on the fall Senatorial campaign. George Allen was literally the front runner for the US presidential seat - however, after the “mecaca” disaster, his career is over, the Virginia senatorial race was radically changed (I know I changed my vote because of the incident), and ultimately the shift of power in Congress changed from Republican to Democrat. So yes, this stuff matters.
The main focus of Geoff’s talk was how pervasive social media is on our society and how it enforces a culture of transparency and honesty. It is an opportunity to engage your “community” (Geoff doesn’t believe in the w
