      Short Funny Jokes: PARROTS
Pat had but a limited knowledge of the bird kingdom. One day, walking down the street, he noticed a green bird in a cage, talking and singing. Thinking to pet it he stroked its head. The bird turned quickly, screaming, "Hello! What do you want?" Pat shied off like a frightened horse, lifting his hat and bowing politely as he stuttered out: "Ex-excuse me s-sir, I thought you was a burrd!"__________

Green Parrots take over a Norway Spruce in Madrid
Recently while visiting a friend I was shown this very remarkable Norway Spruce tree full of bird nests. There are so many large nests in this tree that it is bit difficult to see what kind of tree it is. It does not take too long however to discover the type of birds that are responsible for this mass of twigs. After standing watch for a few minutes I witnessed several medium sized green parro

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED SPECIES: Five endangered New Zealand Kakapo parrots hatch
IMAGE CREDIT: © New Zealand Department of Conservation. The kakapo (Strigops habroptilus) is a species of flightless nocturnal parrot endemic to New Zealand. The species is critically endangered but recently had a little boost in its overall numbers. The hatching of five chicks has brought the overall known number of kakapo parrots to just 91.These birds evolved in the absence of predators and with people came introduced species such as rats. The species evolved in ignorance of mammalian predators therefore they easily fell prey to introduced species. Except for bats, most of New Zealand’s mammals had gone extinct millions of years before. Therefore, New Zealand had no mammals for a very long time until humans brought cats, dogs, rats and other mammalian species. The island had bee

Penguins with Parrots on the side
You don't normally expect to find penguins which are essentially a cold water species to mix with parrots which are essentially birds of tropical climes. However, on a lot of New Zealand's sub-antarctic islands such a mixture is relatively common. Red-crowned parakeets are found widespread on many Pacific islands, including the main islands of New Zealand itself. Here they make companions for rock-hopper penguins. On the Antipodes Islands can be found the Antipodes Island parakeet which has lost it's red-crown, and is endemic to the island group. The Antipodes Islands lie some 650 kilometres to the southeast of the southern extremity of the South Island - Stewart Island - of New Zealand. They were first charted in 1800 by Captain Henry Waterhouse of British ship HMS Reliance. Like m

Should You Get a Quaker Parrots?
If you live in a warm climate, you may have noticed a big flock of noisy gray and green parrots flying about. These birds are Quaker parrots, a popular pet for many bird lovers. Because Quakers are so hardy, they have colonized in quite a few spots, including Florida and California. These little guys can really do some damage to your local farm crops. Concerns about crop destruction and competition with native birds have caused lawmakers to ban ownership of Quakers in quite a few areas. Before you decide to buy a Quaker, make sure these birds are legal in your area. The gregarious Quaker is a fairly good talker. While these birds do not have the mimicking ability of some of the large parrots, such as the African gray, they do develop large vocabularies fairly easily. One major drawback to t

      Catholic Parrots
via email Catholic ParrotsMatt goes to his priest one day and says, "Father, I have a problem. I have two female parrots, but they only know how to say one thing."What do they say?" the priest inquired. They say, "Hi, we're hookers! You want to have some fun?""That's obscene!" the priest exclaimed. Then he thought for a moment."You know," he said, "I may have a solution to your problem. I have two male talking parrots, which I have taught to pray and read the Bible. Bring your two parrots over to my house, and we'll put them in the c age with Franci s and Peter. My parrots can teach your parrots to pray and worship!" "Thank you,"  Matt responded, "this may very well be the solution."The next day, he brought his female parrots to the priest's house. As the priest ushered him in, Matt saw that his two male parrots were inside their cage holding rosary beads and praying. Impressed, he walked over and place

      Parrots and Parasols
Over the last few days the weather has been quite warm. Lots of sunshine and a few fluffy clouds. The temperature is about right for our animals and birds. They all seem to be 'comfortable'. I guess it is the 'Goldilocks syndrome' - not too hot and not too cold.So we thought we would give our two parrots a change of scene and put them outside the shop for a couple of hours to soak up the suns rays.Sitting in their large cages at either side of the front door made them look like a 'guard of honour' for anyone entering the shop. They just loved the attention they got from passers by.Everyone stopped to talk to them and even passing motorists wound down their windows to shout 'hello' or whistle. It really seems to lighten a great many peoples day, especially when Tickle was shouting 'hello' or 'give us a kiss', or wolf whistling. They will be outside again in the next few days - weather permitting as both parrots seemed to have enjoyed themselves immensely. I have even
