Oh, and don't miss the original iron jail cell that sits in the middle of town! The historic architecture in Los Rios makes for a great evening stroll, and there are lots of great restaurants and shops within a short walking distance. They also have a cool Ghost Tour with lots of haunted sites! I just came back from a great weekend in La Union. I trooped to the San Juan Surf Resort with my brods and other surfer wannabes on Travel Factor's Surfvivor Surfing Tour. We left McDonald's El Pueblo at 12:30 a.m. on three vans loaded with surfing beginners. It was a coincidence that my China-ASEAN batchmate Carly and her friends were also going.I was so tired and sleepy, I slept all the way. The only thing I remember was the 4 a.m. breakfast stopover in Jollibee Urdaneta. We arrived in San Juan a little before 7 a.m. As soon as we got the keys to our room, we slept.Tikoy, the organizer, woke us up at about 9:30 a.m. to ask who wanted to join the first group. The may seem short, but the one hour lessons are exhausting. Some of us joined the first group while I took photos. I went for the second group later in the afternoon at 3 p.m.Training us was Luke Landrigan and his pool of locals who gave us one-on-one lessons. Most people when they arrive in San Juan will either head off on their own to see the various sights or arrange to see them with a tour guide. There is a third option which I stumbled upon the other day, and that is to see the sights with a National Park Ranger.
There are several tours available both in English and Spanish, unfortunately though, they are only available on certain days of the week. But, if you are here in San Juan on the days that the tours are offered, it might be worth checking them out.
Note: for most of these tours there is a maximum of 30 people.
The Fortification Walk:
This is the tour if you would like to learn more about how the fortifications helped protect the Spaniards for over 350 years. The ranger will take you on a 2-3 mile walk through Old San Juan and the tour lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.
The English tour takes place on Saturdays at 10am from the main plaza of San Cristóbal.

one of my favorite views in san juan. i always enjoy walking here in the old port. there's alot of tourist here, so the place is always vibrant with life. this is in viejo san juan, and there's an area in viejo san juan where you can see la perla, its an island part of san juan known as the most beautiful slum in the world.

(Boston) More than 100 MaidPro team members from around the United States met in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to celebrate success, share knowledge and soak up the sun during the 2007 MaidPro Convention, held August 17-19.
Owners and managers from 48 MaidPro offices joined representatives from the home office for three days of workshops, roundtable discussions and presentations. The franchisor also introduced its newly elected Franchise Advisory Board.
Saturday night’s celebration dinner included presentation of awards for business growth, customer satisfaction, marketing and sales. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in Santurce will be holding the 5th International Short Film Festival – Cinefiesta, between Aug 23 to 26. This is a great opportunity for all you film buffs oput there to see new local and international short films from up and coming movie makers. We stopped off for a couple of days in San Juan, just two and a half hours from Mendoza by bus. It’s one of Argentina’s quietest regional capitals and it grew on me. It reminded me of La Plata, more of a large town than a city, quiet and peaceful. We spent our time walking around the streets and going to museums. I still can’t get used to the Argentine custom of closing shops down between 12noon and 5pm (outside of Buenos Aires) and reopening for the evening, in San Juan it seemed they take an extra hour off and it didn’t start to open up until 6pm. For those of you who are not familiar with Erasure, they hit the UK pop scene back in 1985 with “Who Needs Love (Like That)”. They followed this with further hits through the 80’s and 90’s with: “Sometimes”, “Victim of Love”, “The Circus”, “Ship of Fools”, “A Little Respect”, “Stop!” and “Take a Chance On Me” to name just a few. Erasure were one of the biggest groups in the UK in the 80’s and 90’s.

If you have driven around San Juan and the surrounding area, you can not have missed the amount of construction that is taking place. There are construction sites for hotels, office buildings, as well as, residential complexes. As for the large residential projects that are currently underway or in the planning phase, the majority appear to be "high end' projects… In other words; lots of $$$ if you want to purchase an apartment in one of these projects.

I stumbled on this video today. It shows a great view of Paseo La Princesa in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The quality of the video is great and the images that you will see, will make you want to see this really beautiful walk in Old San Juan. I would recommend that you try to go here on a weekend, maybe late afternoon or early evening, as you may also get to experience local artists performing. Even if there are no performances, you will love the walk.
