With the Phillies giving me absolutely nothing to write about (Mike Koplove? C'mon!), I figured I'd get some discussion going about our future prospects. The World Championship squad was built primarily from players that came up through our system and the Phillies have no reason to change that strategy now.
The farm system that Pat Gillick and co. inherited was one of the worst in baseball. All

Not big news, but news nonetheless. The Phillies made their first move as champions today, re-signing left-handed reliever Scott Eyre to a one-year, $2 million dollar deal. Seems like a little much for a situational lefty, but it is much less expensive than the 3-year, $11 million deal he signed with the Cubs prior to this.
Eyre was 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 19 appearances for the Phillies after
Nothing big on the rumor mill today, but a lot of small things I've read and heard here and there that are worth discussing.
Jermaine Dye - ESPN 1000 in Chicago reported that the Phils might have some interest in trading for Dye. Since the White Sox are pretty much the only team we trade with, it's certainly a possibility. Dye, 34, would more than replace Burrell's production in LF (34 HR, 41 2B,
Well, Jon Heyman of CNNSI.com is reporting a doozie of a rumor today, stating that the Phillies are "going hard" after Rockies left-fielder Matt Holliday.
This statement is so loaded with so many implications, It's hard to gather my thoughts in an organized fashion, but I will do my best.
My first thought is the argument I made during the Rollins/Holliday MVP race in 2007. Matt Holliday is N

With the GM meetings coming to a close, we are officially in the MLB off-season. This is one of my favorite times in the sports year. You've got the NFL, College Football and NBA in full swing, with College Basketball coming up and the MLB rumor mill getting all churned up.
It appears as though the first order of business for Phillies GM Ruben Amaro is to re-sign 2 of our free agents, Jamie Moye
Usually right after the season ends, fans immediately think about the off-season and what their team can do to improve for next year. This year, that's not exactly what has been on the minds of Phillies fans. I'm not going to start speculating on off-season moves just yet, but I do want to take a look at the state of the players on our team just to get a baseline of where we are and what new GM Ru

In what will go down as the WEIRDEST World Series in History (the fact that it was the Tampa Bay Rays and the Phillies, notwithstanding), in the battle of the teams with the pretty stars on their jerseys, the Philadelphia Phillies are the 2008 World Series Champions, beating Tampa Bay 4-3 last night…and it took [...]

Kitt Badlove gave you the detailed post, so now I have post the estatic one!!!! The Philadelphia Phillies are The World Series Champs beating out the Tampa Bay Rays with a score of 4 to 3 in a three inning game. I was out and about in Philadelphia right after the game, and let me tell you, the fans were going crazy, it was quite the spectacle of fireworks, car horns blaring, and all around celebra
What if they played a World Series, and nobody watched? In the most anti-climatic World Series since 1989 when the Loma Prieta earthquake disrupted the "Bay Area Series" the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 Wednesday night. The win came two days after the start of the contest, which was suspended in the bottom of the sixth due to rain. These two teams deserved a better showcase

DAVID J. PHILLIP | The APThey are my favorite baseball team. I am not from Philadelphia, and the Phillies are my only favorite team from there (I like teams from all over the country), but I have been rooting for them since I was 10 years old. I cheered when they won in 1980 with my favorite player Mike Schmidt. I also went to their World Series game in Baltimore in 1983. Unfortunately, they lost.
Watch out: The jock in me is about to be unleashed. I never would normally do this, but it’s been 28 frickin long years and I’m so tired. So, so tired and delirious. I’ve been watching the Philadelphia Phillies playoff and World Series games for what seems like my whole life the [...]
The Philadelphia Phillies have won the 2008 World Series, defeating the Tampa Rays 4-1. The Phillies just won the 2008 World Series on a Brad Lidge strike-out of Eric Hinske. What a weird play out of events leading to the first championship in Philadelphia since the 76'ers in 83'! I was dismissive of this series from the beginning, but I have to admit it was a great series and the better team won.Should be a wild night in Philadelphia tonight!
After all the rain, wind, cold and debate over Bud Selig’s decision to suspend Game Five of the World Series, action resumed a little after 8:30 tonight.Folks, America has finally crowned a World Series Champion – the Philadelphia Phillies – as they beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3.Tampa was upended by a Phillies team that hustled its way to a win.The shaky Rays’ bullpen once again came unglue
Game 5 of the World Series was suspended because of rain in the sixth inning Monday night with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays tied at 2 and the field already a sloppy, soggy mess.
While dismissing the bitter elections that are fast approaching, I ended my night joining in with the Phillie Phever excitement for the Phils and watched tailgators and neighbors celebrate this big baseball opportunity. People are hoping that 2008 will be just as special as the year 1980 for another World Series win. I awoke early this morning to tune in on the victory wondering "did the ph
Tonight in Philadelphia, the Phillies will take on the Rays in game 5 which could lead to the Phillies first series championship in decades. I grew up around baseball, spending hours at a time tossing the ball with friends, playing just about every position in Little League and going to games at Memorial Stadium in the 1970s heyday of the Baltimore Orioles. Ever since the Orioles managed to give up their three-one lead over the Pirates in the 1979 World Series, though, I've drifted away from the game. Not because they lost, mind you.
The Philadelphia Phillies slaughtered the Rays last night 10-2 and put the series all but out of reach of the Rays. The Phillies bats handled the Rays starting pitching and punished the bullpen in the second half of the game. Even Ryan Howard got in on the action launching one that hasn't landed yet. Personally, I knew it was all over when Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton knocked one out of the yard.
The Philadelphia Phillies exploded for ten runs Sunday night as they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-2 in game four of the 2008 World Series. The victory gives Philadelphia a 3-1 lead in the series, and could close it out in front of their home fans Monday night. The Phillies blasted four home runs two by first baseman Ryan Howard, and one by starting and winning pitcher Joe Blanton. He is the the
It looks like no one in America is really watching this World Series; however, if you're missing it – you're missing some interesting baseball. The Phillies are now up 2-1 in the 2008 World Series as they beat the Rays, 5-4, thanks to a weak infield single – a dribbler along third bases – with the bases loaded by Carlos Ruiz that plated Eric Bruntlett. The frame started as J.P. If any game was worth sitting through a three hour rain delay, this may have been the one as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays in the bottom of the ninth by the score of 5-4 early Sunday morning. It is hard to believe that the World Series is being played between two teams that at the beginning of the season would have been best described as a bad grapefruit league contest. Anyway, tonight's game was pretty entertaining even though the game winning run was courtesy of a bad catcher making an even worse play. I mean he literally threw the game away. I don't know about you, but this series s
Tampa Bay Rays starter James Shields pitched five and two thirds of scoreless baseball, and Rays hitters roughed Phillies starter Brett Myers for two runs in the bottom of the first as Tampa Bay defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 Thursday night. The Phillies took game 1 last night 3-2 and will attempt to pick up game 2 tonight in Tampa Bay. Although the score was close, the game was not. The Phillies had runners all over the place and really dominated play. Philadelphia had a similar problem as the Red Sox by not driving in their runners. I swear they seemed to have runners all over the place in every inning. As for the Rays, their bats n
The Philadelphia Phillies drew first blood, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night at Tropicana Field 3-1 in game one of the 2008 World Series. The Philadelphia Phillies have advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1993! I'm going to keep this short, because I'm too excited to type too much. I can't quite express in words how I feel right now. In my lifetime, only 3 of my teams have been in this situation before: the 1993 Phillies, the 2000-01 Sixers and the 2004-05 Eagles. I can now add the 2008 Phillies to that list. Will this be the team that breaks the trend? Right now, I'm not thinking about that. I'm so pr

The Los Angeles Dodgers came back with a vengeance Sunday night as they put an old fashioned butt kicking on the Philadelphia Phillies winning game three of the NLCS in convincing fashion by a score of 7-2. The Phillies take their 2-0 NLCS lead into Los Angeles tonight to potentially put the Dodgers down for the count. Apparently Joe Torre has made a few changes to the lineup, nateably starting Nomar Garciaparra at short-stop. Philadelphia Phillies starter Brett Myers became the first pitcher in NLCS history to get 3 hits in a game, and he pitched just well enough to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 Friday night. We've talked a lot on this blog about the Phillies consistently being in the mid-80's in wins for the last several years, and it seemed for 95% of the season that this year would be no different. But, defying the odds, the Phillies went 11-3 in their last 14, to bring their record to 90-70. This is only the 12th time in franchise history that we've reached 90 wins.

The Bucs were in a good position to take a win and this series from their cross-state rivals.-The Pirates took a 1-0 lead on a Minky double after a Moss double.
