UI Design
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Both of us are horrible at designing. It takes me forever to come up with an ugly site (MySpace is probably as far as I can get =D ). So we decided to let someone else do it. Our design needs are primarily logo, web pages (photoshop/fireworks), and couple icons. I posted an ad on Craigslist and amazing how many responses I got back - power of a community! My question here is what design firms have some of you guys worked with that were successful and within budget (1k-2k?) for web startup w/o venture capital nor angel funds?I'm really impressed with all the web 2.0 designs out there. As much as I like to follow the norm, my principles on design whether or not web 2.0-ish are: Clean Simple Usable I guess these principles are why Google and Youtube succeed (other than their awesome features).

After 2 weeks of planning, my partner and I have done all our brainstorming and mockups. Now, we are in the coding phase. He's responsible for most of the coding, while I am responsible for all the other "stuff". Our target launch date is end of Jan. or early Feb. So, look forward to it, we will definitely work our hardest to please everyone out there!!!!

Inner Struggles
1970-01-01 00:59:59
So, just to go back in time as to how I decided to start a web startup.I've been a close follower of web 2.0, well, starting with google. I've read about and used all these different web 2.0 sites and it became a daily hobby. So, after seeing all these ideas, I eventually wanted to start something. Once I had an idea, I knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate on my full time job, so I decided to take a personal leave (yes, personal leave, I'm too chicken to abandon my insurance =P ) and give it a try.So here comes my struggle, $$$!!! I guess it's something that every entry-level entreprenuer has to go through. But, it hit me the second week into starting this site. Now, since my partner is handling all the coding, I've been doing most of the research. Research that will be used close to our launch.I know I shouldn't be thinking that much about $$$ and the fact that I don't have a full time job and realizing if this site becomes big and its all worth it (seeing all the mon

Partner(s)

It's so hard to find the perfect partner, or even a good partner to work with. There are so many people out there with really awesome skill sets and experiences, but may not have the right chemistry with you.I guess I experienced this the hard way. Started creating a site a year ago, worked with this developer. He was capable of creating the site, but we just didn't get along as a team. He would think this way, while I would think the other, we just didn't agree with each other. After all that, we stopped the site. We're still good friends now, but never teammates ever ever again.Life is just funny like that, sometimes people can just be a certain role to you (i.e. friend, teammate, business partner, girl/boy friend, husband/wife).Now, I have a great partner working with me. We share common ideas and complement each other. Look towards the same goals for this startup. Life is good. =)
