Glorying in energy rush 2006-08-22 03:13:00 Bless America. Today I shall review the energy drink, Old Glory the true American energy drink. It comes in a 16 oz. can with the American Eagle on the front and an American flag motif. And in true American capitalistic style this energy drink is only 99 cents. That's a beautiful thing and one of the many great reasons to love America. After all what other country provides so many energy drinks. Their slogan is keeping America strong.
Old Glory is a pale light yellow in color. It looks like pear juice and most closely resembles SoBe No Fear Gold in color. A very citrusy smell wafts from the can. Upon taking a gulp I notice that it isn't very carbonated at all. I'd say it tastes most like those white gummi bears right down to the corn syrupy aftertaste. It's really a cross between pineapple and lemon gummi bear flavors. In some ways it reminds me of ginger ale and could be a good energy substitue for ginger ale and would make a really good energy drink mixer with rum or vodka. I fon
Right back at you, mate 2006-08-20 01:18:00 Everyone like Aussies. They are some of the nicest people in the world and they bring us so much cool stuff: boomerangs, kangaroos, the outback, the Crocodile Hunter and Crocodile Dundee. OK maybe Crocodile Dundee isn't so cool but Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter is. If I had to guess I'd bet he drinks Coolah. Coolah is the new energy drink from Australia that's sweeping across the US. It comes in a 16 oz. yellow can featuring a nice boomerang design. It's a little cartoonish for a hard core energy drink reviewer like me, but it's got a clean and bright design that is unique. After all I haven't seen too many yellow cans in my energy drink reviews.
Coolah is a very pale light yellow, like super diluted lemonade, It has a bright lemon flavor with strong sweetness. It's kind of like carbonated lemonade. Coolah has simple yet good flavor with a nice sourness that hits when you lick your lips. For an energy drink there isn't an overwhelming tartness but an easy nice sourness like lemo Read more:Right

Gold water 2006-08-18 23:33:00 If you haven't noticed water
is the next big thing. I mean life cannot survive without water and people are fed up with soda so what else are you going to drink but water. Not that I buy the whole soda is bad for you thing, especially when that soda like beverage is an energy drink, but I like water every now and then. The problem is that it is just boring! Water doesn't taste good. I need things to be full of flavor. To that end, the trend of flavored waters is a blessing. We have SoBe Waters out now (but I don't understand why they don't have taurine), Trinity Water, Hansens Water, and of course the big guy, Vitamin Water. The last Vitamin Water I tried was their Power C, which had some taurine in it to give a boost, but I thought I should taste their "Energy" Tropical Citrus flavor even though it's missing taurine. It's got the same packaging as Power C, but features a yellow wrap around label.
Tropical Citrus Vitamin Water has a thick yellow color that one could call sun gold
Busting out white before labor day 2006-08-17 03:02:00
Another sugar free drink that improves on the original can. Von Dutch was one of those drinks that made me say, "WHAT?" when I first saw it. It had a weird can reminiscent of Lost in some ways and was playing up their whole fashion brand for energy drink sales. Von Dutch Sugar Free imrpoves on the original can with some white to break up the black and green blob that was the can for the regular version. The can looks good, borrowing the sugar free white from Rockstar Diet.
Like normal Von Dutch, the Sugar Free version has a similar floral smell and the same caramel like color. The taste has notes of jasmine mixed with noticeable sweetener. Surprisingly this is way better than normal Von Dutch. It has a little bit of a mild bitter aftertaste with a tiny bit of a Kabalah like dirty flavor. It's very much like Red Bull with major tartness and cotton candy sweetness without being overly gummy. It's better than Von Dutch regular and better than Red Bull Sugar Free or normal Red Bull. The triumvirate is now complete 2006-08-13 10:17:00 FINALLY!!! I've found it. KMX was my favorite early energy drink. Before the category proliferated you had a choice of Red Bull, KMX or 180. KMX was always my favorite. Sure the 8 oz. can with the swirly symbol was kind of boring and I had no idea what KMX stood for... I still don't. But the drink tasted good, at least I remembered it tasting good. Sadly KMX disappeared, the powers that be at Coke decided it couldn't compete with Red Bull and dropped it to replace it with Full Throttle. Well I found a lone can of KMX on a shelf and had to get it. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
When you open KMX the fake orange scent hits you like a tidal wave of Sunkist soda. The color really looks alot like Full Throttle Fury with a dark orange color that seems darker than 180. The flavor is so good. It's like a nice round fake tangerine flavor. It takes the best part of tangerine and mixes it with Vitamin C pills, a little mineraly this and just a hint of mandarin orange sourness. It really is a Read more:complete
Full of sweeteners 2006-08-12 16:53:00 Full Throttle is one of those drinks that most people have strong feelings about. It's either a love it or hate it drink. For me, I love it. I don't want to pander to the corporate entity that is Coca Cola, but they really did a nice job with the product: nice taste, good can, decent kick. Now I thought it was time to give Full Throttle Sugar Free a try. The can is the same basic 16 oz. can as Full Throttle but with some silver flames at the top and bottom with the words Sugar Free in red. I like the flames, they give the can a little more edge, but the words Sugar Free just look stupid. I just feel like they could have done a little more.
The color of Full Throttle Sugar Free is the same as the original Full Throttle, with an almost AMP like color but a little lighter greenish yellow. The flavor is a strong mix of lime & melon, much like the original. In fact you really can't tell that it's sugar free. This is a really strong entry in the sugar free category and definitely one of Read more:sweeteners
Not shot with sugar 2006-08-10 17:58:00 Arizona is one of the major energy drink producers but I haven't tried too many of their flavors. Their cans just haven't been too interesting to lure me to try them. I figured it was finally time and for that reason I have bought Arizona Extreme Shot Low Carb. This is basically a low carb version of Arizon'a Extreme Energy Shot and trades in the yellow caution markings for white ones while keeping the same 16 oz. can. The white can definitely looks cleaner but doesn't give the same sense of urgency and extremeness that the original does.
The color of the drink is a little different than the original Energy Shot. It's more transparent but still has that orangina look to it. In taste it's like a poor man's Adrenaline Rush. That comes across as a bland grapefruit drink with some mango and pear thrown in. It's not a very impressive drink, certainly not as good as the original Energy Shot and comes across as very bland. If you're looking for a juice like sugar free drink, you shou
A dorsal fin in the taurine 2006-08-09 21:24:00 Along comes another aquatic predator drink to go with Piranha and Shark (which I still haven't found anywhere). Hammerhead comes in a sleek black 8 oz. can that looks as bad ass as a shark. This can shows Piranha how to do a good energy drink can. By the way I almost caught a shark which would have been awesome. I would have mounted the head and added a can opener into the mouth so that I could easily open my energy drinks. Plus that'd just be cool to have a shark hanging on the wall with all my energy cans. Sadly it wasn't a hammerhead, only a 6 foot lemon shark and it got away since I'm a bad fisherman. You can blame my drunk buddies who were too busy giving me alcohol instead of energy drinks, if I had some more taurine in me I'm sure I would have landed the shark. The theme for Hammerhead is "attack life", and with taurine flowing in your system, you'll always be primed for attack. Cool theme and can.
Hammerhead looks like Iron Energy Lemon Lime but more yellowish. It actuall
A can with no buzz 2006-08-08 17:21:00 There have been some damn bad names in the history of the energy market, but this one might take the cake. Sugar Free Wild Buzz. It sounds like the nickname for an old dog or some miltary haircut that went haywire. I figured I'd give it a try anyway, I mean they have to get some points for coming up with a name that bad. Not that the can is much better than the name. It looks like they tried to shave costs by not painting the entire can. The logo looks pathetic and to be honest nothing about this can says energy to me or symbolizes buzz. Maybe a ragged font and a yellow and black color theme could have salvaged this thing, but I'm not sure.
The color that comes out of the can is the same as Von Dutch. My instincts are screaming Red Bull clone. And it's not actually a bad one. It's probably a bit too sweet to be great but doesn't make you gag like some of the other clones. It's got the classic gumminess in a decent amount and has a more noticeable grape flavor than normal. For a s
Calling out the Beast 2006-08-07 17:18:00 The beast. It's that name for something when you don't quite know what it is. The name conjures up thoughts of fear, monstrosities, and endless rage. Perfect for an energy drink. I found the Beast
Zero while partying it up in Atlanta not too long ago. Dying in the summer heat and humidity of Atlanta, I reached for this new energy drink eagerly. My inner beast was forcing me to grab the drink it was as I was possessed by some unknown force, an inner voice speaking to me to grab the 8 oz. black and red can and to let my true self come forth. With such a coveted can, I was sure that the drink would allow my inner energy to flourish!
The Beast Zero is a very pale yellow-orange in color like mixing Kabalah with Von Dutch. Upon hitting my tongue, I was overwhelmed with tastes of super bitterness and almost no sweetness to speak of. A very sour taste hit my tongue and enraged me almost singlehandedly driving my beast from me. There was almost no sweetness to sooth my civilized self which pr Read more:Calling
Drink for the bottle not the buzz 2006-08-06 18:53:00 There's always something interesting about picking up a new drink in a weird shaped can or bottle
. In this case we have Hansens Energy Water - Grapefruit flavor. The bottle is shaped like a rocket ship, baby bottle or dumbell and has a weird "atom" design on it that doesn't really fit in with anything about the drink. The plastic bottle shape makes it easy to hold, but becomes sort of awkward when chugging the drink. Although Hansens has gone in a ton of directions with their drinks this takes the spectrum one edge down from Energade and is basically water with flavor and energy ingredients. I guess in that vein it's similar to Trinity and Vitamin Water. Let's see if it can beat those in taste.
The grapefruit flavor of Hansens Energy Water is the same color as Squirt. It's a slightly opaque water. It also comes across as tasting somewhat like very diluted Squirt. There's a some grapefruit flavor and a Vitamin C pill flavoring - somewhat astringent sourness and a little wheaty vit Read more:Drink
Fast and furious energy without the sugar 2006-08-04 18:27:00 When I reviewed NOS many months ago I was impressed. Good can, nice taste. Really only the presence of some scary ingredients prevented me from making it a go to drink. Now I've decided to check out Sugar Free NOS. They have done another good job on packaging with a fake brushed metal look that goes well with the racing theme. The 16 oz. can looks professional with the orange accents and I'm excited to try it and get a boost from the NOS.
Sugar Free NOS is an orange yellow color much like a mango. It's great tasting as it hits your mouth. There's plenty of orange soda taste and some of the mango you've come to expect from the juicier energy drinks. I think it's a little minerally with medium carbonation. The sugar free aftertase is there but isn't too noticeable until about 30 seconds after you've stopped drinking. Then your mouth tastes artificially sweet. It's not as good as Monster Khaos but until they make a sugar free version of Lost 5-0, Khaos or Rockstar Juiced this is Read more:furious
Don't get hit by this lightning 2006-08-03 16:48:00 OK, where do I start with this one. Crappy can. Could it be much worse? Not much. We're dealing with a horrendous design, bad fonts, and genericism. But in the quest to continue drinking more energy drinks, I had to try it. Sure I had a feeling I was going to regret it, but it's my job to perpetrate truth. The can is 16 oz. and very flimsy. I honestly have no hope and despair about the potential flavor. At least the can for Lightning Energy tells me it's going to be berry red flavor.
Well it definitely is red. It comes out as a darker red than Vamp. The flavor is a very artificial strawberry flavor, but with an extremely bitter aftertaste. I'd say this mostly resembles bitter strawberry sugar free jello. As the no carb version of Lightning Energy this has the artificial sweetner flavor in abundance. That sweet aftertaste is mixed with a vitamin-wheaty aftertaste. It's pretty bad, but not horrible and certainly not as bad as I originally guessed. After a few more gulps I realize th Read more:lightning

Shakin' it for some energy 2006-08-02 16:30:00 I'm not real cultured but I think the Rumba is one of those Latin dances. I think it's supposed to be all sexy and stuff and requires a lot of energy. I'm not sure that qualifies Rumba as a good name for an energy drink, but Hansens ran with it anyway. The intriguing thing about Rumba is that it's a 100% juice. We've had some juicy beverages such as Monster Khaos and Rockstar Juiced, but nothing that is 100% juice. The can is the large 16 oz. variety with a big orange to showcase the fruit component of the drink. The blue stripes and Rumba wording are there to evoke the Rumba shaking dance moves. They don't really evoke anything for me but look okay if not a little loud.
Coming out of the can Rumba is a dark thick orange in color like apricot juice. The energy juice is totally opaque and the combination of consistency and color makes it scary looking. The taste is weird, it's like some jacked fruit blend that I've never tasted. I can pick out some peach and pear in there, and
Uno Mas Orange Energy Drink Review (Bebida Energetica Naranja) 2008-03-13 01:08:00 After a quick jaunt to Mexico I’m back. After being immersed in Spanish for a few days I missed it so I got myself an energy drink that would remind of the beauty of the Spanish language. That energy drink is Uno Mas Orange
. Yo tengo Uno Mas Naranja has a much better ring to it than I have an Uno Mas Orange, and that’s why I say Spanish is beautiful. Like the other Uno Mas cans, the orange flavor Read more:Drink

Bomba Black Currant Energy Drink Review 2008-03-13 01:05:00 Every once in awhile you stumble upon a totally new flavor for energy drink that has not been done before. Such is the case with BombaBlack
Currant. Bomba is known for having some interesting flavors out there, but Black Currant takes the cake. This is just not a flavor you see out there that often in any kind of product, much less an energy drink. Black currant is a species of berry (called Read more:Drink

White Lightning Energy Drink Review 2008-03-13 01:04:00 Are you sick of these powder energy drink mixes yet? Here’s another one, White
Lightning EnergyDrink
. White Lightning comes in a silver foil 9.1 gram container package. I’m not really sure what the name has to do with the concept which is really around making a powdered energy mix with acai in it. The packaging is probably the least professionally done of all the energy mixes I have seen:
Jolt Ultra Sugar Free Energy Drink Review 2008-03-13 01:03:00 Back when I tried Jolt Ultra
for the first time I was a little sad. It was not the best of the Jolt line and was there only sugar free energy drink. I’m going to give it another shot since Jolt Ultra has been reformulated. Not only has the inside changed, but there have been minor changes to the branding as well. Now the big bad Jolt Ultra can showcases the sugar free character of the drink and Read more:Drink

Opta Energy Passionate Orange Review (Organic Energy) 2008-03-13 01:02:00 After the success of the Opta Berry Fusion I decided to swing by Whole Foods and grab a can of the other Opta OrganicEnergy

SmartPower Energy Drink Review 2008-03-13 01:01:00 Awhile back I reviewed Nuclear Waste Antidote which seemed like a weird concept for a drink. Now I am tackling SmartPower EnergyDrink

OC Kik-IT Diet Energy Drink Review 2008-03-13 00:01:00 I was down in Southern California the weekend and it really is a beautiful place. Bright sun, palm trees, ocean air. There’s also an attitude to the place that exudes coolness. Whether you are on the beach, in downtown LA, or hitting the clubs you feel that presence that Southern California is known for. B-52 Low Calorie Energy Drink Review (Zero Sugar) 2008-03-12 23:16:00 I felt sorry for all the low calorie energy drink consumers out there. They were really missing a good product in the B-52 EnergyDrink
